Some video's of Samui's March 2011 flooding

Some video's of Samui's March 2011 flooding

Have a look of some of these video's, apparently at some areas on Samui the flooding are worse compared to November 2010.

This is also in Lamai

This is between Maenam and Bang Po

The airport is currently still open but there are delays.

If you find my blog and updates useful, don't feel embarrassed by donating some beer money! Plenty of buttons do the trick here and if you want to book your hotels on Samui or in Thailand, please use the links provided. It all helps to keep this blog going!

Hi Camille

Thanks for running this great blog, just found it and will be checking it lots more now!

We are in Koh Phangan (Ko Ma) for last 4 days and rain still going & looks the same as the videos - plus we are having loads of power outages / cuts (7 hours yesterday)

Came here to do some diving (go over to Koh Tao) but this weather is pretty hardcore thinking of just getting back to mainland (if possible) and carrying on up North.

Thanks Again

Thanks for checking in and good luck with your travels, just might be that your stay on KP is going to be a little longer, until the ferries run again.

Dear Camille,

Hi I hope you can help I've travelled many time to Samui but never heard of such bad rain/floods! I'm travelling with my 3 year old son and I'm worried we have made a big mistake we arrive 18th April for 3 weeks (samui and koh tao) is weather expected to stay raining the entire time? I really appreciate your help as want my son to have an enjoyable sunshine vacation!!!

Hi Melissa,

Come 18th April I would expect Samui to have fantastic sunshine with hot and dry days as it should be during April. There’s no guarantee but the current very unusual and out of season weather pattern should start to subside by this coming Thursday. I don’t think that you made a mistake.

Please have a look at my archives, they go back until 2007, about halfway down the blog page on the left side and they will show you how the weather should be in April.

Hope this helps for now.

Hi Camille,
My husband and I arrive in Samui on Wednesday and will be staying at Four Seasons through Sunday. Is there any chance of decent weather from what you can tell during our stay?

Thanks!

Niki

Hi Niki,

Right now, Wednesday should still see some rain but Friday and Saturday have sunshine predicted at this moment.

Hope this helps for now.

Hi Camille

Thank you so much, the concern its my husbands 30th birthday and we have arranged entire trip around outdoor activities and all the families bringing children etc... So as you can imagine reading the weather reports we were worried!

We are going to koh tao have a few thing arranged is there anything you can recommend we should definitely see or do?

Thanks for all your help
Melissa

Hi Melissa,

Glad I can ease your worries a little bit. There’s no guarantee, the current weather is very much out of place but 3 weeks down the line we should have sun again and the aircon should be cranking!

You can have a look at my Samui post about tour around the island and in Koh Tao it’s unfortunately pretty much only diving, not much else to do besides sitting on a beach.

Hope this helps!

Today the torrential rain should stop, so possibly by tomorrow the airport will open again.

Hi Camille,
Thank you for running this blog, I heard there was some bad weather in Samui, but didn't realize how bad it was until I saw your information.

I was hoping to get your advice. 4 of us are scheduled to arrive tomorrow (wed) at about 2pm, for 4 nights We have booked & pre-paid for accommodation, plus the flights from/to koh Samui. Would you recommend canceling our trip to Samui ... I'm not even sure if I can get refunds from Bangkok airways :(. Thanks.

Camille said...

Hi Chris,

You're welcome. The situation is not good indeed, right now id about the worst that I ever experienced in 12 years on Samui.

Although I expect he airport to open again tomorrow and sunshine is predicted starting from Friday, there's no guarantee right now. Please check Bangkok Air's Facebook page for updates on their situation.

Do you reside in Thailand or are you on holidays?

Chris said...

Thanks again Camille. We are on holidays for a few weeks. So far we've been following some bad weather around, but what can you do. Thailand is still beautiful either way :) thanks for the tip, I'll check out their Facebook page.

Hi Chris,

Good spirits, keep them up!!

Hope things work out for you.

Hi again Camille,
Hope you're staying dry and safe!
We just got back from the Bangkok airways office, and they won't know if flights are cancelled until tomorrow morning. Right now we are not able to get a refund. If the flight does go as scheduled, would you recommend staying away? Not sure if it's better to lose $ on the flight, or come to koh Samui and not have a good time because of the conditions?

Hi Camille

We are currently on Samui doing a fasting retreat at Dharma Healing. I really like your blog - it is helpful when you don't know what is going on outside your own bungalow which is surrounded by half a metre of water!

Look forward to more updates this week

Warm wishes

Alison

Hi Alison,

Glad I can be of help! Hope you're all well and hang in there, it's almost over!

Camille said...

Hi Chris,

To be honest, right now the island will need some time to recover and sort a few things out, moving around will be limited and I'm not sure how long it will to stock up on food etc again. Maybe cross your fingers and they cancel the flights and thus you get a refund?

Thanks for the great updates!!

What are the chances of things being back to relative normality by 13th April as we are booked in for 2 weeks?

Thanks.

Camille said...

Within two weeks I expect everything on Samui to be back to 'normal'.

Hi Camille

I'd also like to add my thanks for your blog.

My family and I are all heading over to Koh Tao via Koh Samui/Phangan around 9th April for my sister's wedding there on Mon 11th.

I just wondered what you've heard about conditions on Koh Tao, or whether people are currently able to get there?

Thanks so much - and I hope things are OK for you out there.

Take care,

Rosie x

Hi Rosie,

Koh Tao has been hit very hard and the Thai Navy is currently evacuating people from Koh Tao, right now all ferry services are still postponed.

Come the 9th April, Samui should be fine again, not sure about Koh Tao........

Tamara said...

Hi Camille,

We will visit Chaweng at the 7th of may.
Do you think the flood will be over by then?

Thanks

Hi Tamara,

In May everything should be fine again!
