Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 24th June – 30th June 2019

Here we are, another Sunday morning and time for the Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 24th June – 30th June 2019.
The long slow distance run has been done and dusted. 25.7km this morning, making it almost 39km over the weekend. The build up for the Lan Saka marathon come 8th September is in full swing. Almost at the half way mark.

The weather on Koh Samui was surprisingly nice! Despite having had rainy and cloudy predictions for a second week in a row, it was mostly sunny. It has rained a little bit at certain parts of the island, although Plai Laem didn't get to see that much. The wind has picked up today though.

Currently at 10.30am it's 'only' 31C. The sun is however slowly creeping out from behind the clouds and it feels much warmer already.

The Hua Thanon market. Well knows for it's fresh fish each day. Well worth a visit. It's s small but cozy market area.

Last week saw plenty of sunshine, and plenty of partially cloudy skies. Maximum temperatures reached 34C. On the other hand, minimum temperature last week reached 22C during the night.

So, that brings us to the forecast for next week, Coincidentally, also the first July week of 2019.
The wind should keep picking. Towards mi week and the end of the week we may see some rain. Possibly in the form of tropical showers. Short but hard!
We'll see how this pans out though. In the meantime, enjoy your stay on our island and do go out and about! It's low season and rather quiet on the island. You have the island almost to yourself!

Please do 'like' my Koh Samui blog Facebook page and enjoy the beaches around the island or in front of your hotel or resort and get some well deserved rest and a break.
If you're done resting or need something else to do, there's plenty of things on offer on and around Koh Samui, you can go snorkeling or diving or take a dive course.

You can also enjoy some of the trips I recommend, like a half day gourmet lunch and snorkeling trip at the Southern part of Koh Samui or a photography trip where you get to see the most photo genetic spots on the island or go for a drinks tasting tour if you like a tipple or two.
You may also opt for a very special dinner experience at The Thai Experience. Behind closed doors, reservation only and a very enjoyable and well worthwhile way of spending an evening on Samui. Authentic Thai food and a great atmosphere. Can highly recommend this experience.

Goodbye to June 2019

Goodbye to June 2019

It's almost the end of the month and time to say goodbye to June 2019. Yes, we have one more day to go, but today is as good as any to blog.

The weather during June 2019 was fairly good. Above average I would actually say. The last two weeks strong wind and lots of rain were predicted. However, each week this forecast got pushed back by a week. In return we had plenty of sunshine and warm days. Even days getting close to hot! It's 2pm right now and the current temperature is 34C.

Much better and a lot less rain compared to an average June.

Goodbye to June 2019

Goodbye to June 2019

The newly constructed Nurul Hidayah mosque or Masjid in Bang Rak. It almost looks like a part o a temple or a big house. No towers like you normally see in a Masjid.

It was a good month for running though. 2nd June saw the Bangkok Airways Koh Samui half marathon. I placed 3rd in my age group. The weekend of 15th and 16th June saw respectively the Cancer Care run in Nathon and the Moon trail race on Koh Phangang. In the latter I won my age group.
Now, I was in training for the Samui Festival marathon come 15th September. Unfortunately for me, there will be no full marathon distance year. Half marathon, 10km and 5km races are scheduled.
I'm still in training, but now for a full marathon in Lansaka, near Nakhon Si Thammarat, come 8th September. A week earlier than planned.

Time to look forward to July. It may be slightly wetter and windier compared to June. But, wait, didn't I hear this already for the last two weeks?
Enjoy your time on Koh Samui and do go out and about if you're here!

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 17th June – 23rd June 2019

Closing in on Sunday noon and time for the Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 17th June – 23rd June 2019.
It's cloudy over Koh Samui since this morning. At noon we have a temperature of 32C. The wind is picking up and don't be surprised if there's some rain later today.

The entrance to Baan Taling Ngam, in the southern part of the island. Always a nice view to see the port with the two elephants.

Last week was surprisingly nice. Lots of sunny days under blue or partially clouded skies. The whole rainy weather segment has shifted a week to next week. Maximum temperature reached 35C and minimum temperature got stuck at 23C. There were just a few rare showers. A mich better week than it was predicted.

Next week however! Plenty of strong wind and lots of rain are being predicted. The rain during the week and the maximum wind over next weekend. Interesting to see how this will develop.
Enjoy your time on the island and see you next week.

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 10th June – 16th June 2019

Sunday afternoon and time for the Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 10th June – 16th June 2019. Later than usual today since we just got back from Koh Phangan.

It's been an interesting week. Plenty of weather changes. First of all sunny skies. Secondly, mostly partially clouded skies with a very humidity which makes for hot weather. Thirdly, some tropical thunderstorms. All in a weeks work! Most importantly, this is typical June/July weather on Koh Samui during this time of the year. It's after all a minor rainy season going on.

Today it's 33C at 2.30pm but it certainly feels a lot warmer or should I say hotter? All this under a cloudy to partially cloudy sky.

Late afternoon at Choengmon beach earlier this week. It's very quiet at this moment on Koh Samui.

Last week saw maximum temperatures of 35C. The minim reached 28C, fairly hot during the night!
As already mentioned, we had a tropical shower or two but also plenty of sunshine and warm weather.

Winner in my age group 50+ at 'The Moon' on Koh Phangan, a 15km trail run I participated in. I was 7th overall out of around 400 runners.

Walking street in Thong Sala, Koh Phangan, yesterday afternoon and evening. A very nice and interesting walking street with lots of local foods and goodies.

Next week may see another change of weather! The prediction tells us first of all plenty of strong wind. Secondly plenty of clouds. Most importantly, plenty of rain! It looks like the Celsius will drop a few degrees during next week. get the board games out!
Nonetheless, if you find yourselves on Koh Samui next week, enjoy!

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 3rd June – 9th June 2019

Sunday morning, the end of a week and time for the Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 3rd June – 9th June 2019.
The Sunday morning long slow distance is in the bag. My 68th training half marathon. Next weekend is a big racing weekend. First of all the Cancer Care run on Saturday. Secondly the Koh Phangan 'The Moon' 15km trail race on Sunday.

This morning it's cloudy but dry around Koh Samui. It will not surprise me if there will be a shower later today. Maybe during the late afternoon or early evening. Current temperature at 10am is already 30C though.

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 3rd June – 9th June 2019

The new mosque at the airport road is almost finished. The main building almost looks the same like a normal, big, Thai house. Even some temples have similar buildings. Maybe they sued to same architect? Wonder how noisy their prayers will be. I'm not a big fan of having to listen to amplified religious manifestations. Whether it's a Muslim loudspeaker with prayers or a Catholic church bell that rings every hour.

Last week saw quite a bit of rain. The road leading from the Bophud traffic lights to the entrance of Fisherman's Village turned into a mud bath. Rather messy. The construction is ongoing!

Maximum temperatures last week reached 34C and the minimum got stuck at 25C.

For next week the forecast predicts a slight improvement compared to last week. After tomorrow the wind should drop again and there will be hardly any rain or tropical showers. It may well be fairly cloudy but a lor drier compared to last week.

Enjoy your time on our island and make sure to go out and about and do some exploring.

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 27th May 2019 – 2nd June 2019

Sunday morning in progress and that means time for the Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 27th May 2019 – 2nd June 2019.
It's a strange day, weather wise. First of all, it started very early for the 5am start of the Bangkok Airways Koh Samui half marathon. Secondly, it was still dark at the start. However, during the race when the darkness lifted, it almost looked like rain. When we got closer to 9am, the sun was in full blaze mode and it was turning hot rather quickly. Now at 11.30am, we have mostly a blue sky.

Current temperature at 11.30am is 33C and it's heating up. It feels already a lot warmer, closer to the mid forties!

The winners ceremony of the 50+ age group at this morning's Bangkok Airways Koh Samui half marathon. It's me on the left, with the 3rd place trophy. With a 13th spot all over, it looks good. It was a hard race though and I'm not enjoying the same form and speed as three months ago. Still, a good result. 20.9KM in 1:44'26.7 with a 4'59 pace

Last week saw some good weather. A couple of tropical showers, which you can expect during this time of the year and plenty of sunshine and hot weather. Maximum temperature reached 35C and the minimum temperature hit one night 26C

Next week is looking very similar to this week. Possibly with some stronger wind towards the end of the week and over next weekend.

Welcome to June 2019

Welcome to June 2019

The weekend has kicked off, it's Saturday morning and welcome to June 2019. The first day of this month is underway.
Moreover, it's a beautiful first of June. First of all we have blue skies. Secondly, the sun crunching is already crunching it out early in the morning. A warm overture to June is in the making.
It's almost 11am and the quicksilver is already hitting 32C.

In general June is a nice around Koh Samui and it's archipelago. There's a minor rainy season, but nothing to get too worried about. Expect tropical showers later this month but also plenty of sunshine.

The first June week of this year looks great. In other words, partially clouded to blue skies in the beginning of the week. This will be followed by stronger wind towards next weekend and an occasional tropical shower.

Welcome to June 2019

At the renaissance resort in Lamai. The part of their beach where they conduct weddings. A very scenic backdrop.

Moreover, this month will see plenty of running and racing action. Starting with the Bangkok Samui half marathon, 10km and 5km races tomorrow. Therefor we will visit Nathon later today to pick our BIB's (race numbers).
After that, there's Cancer Care fun and charity run come Saturday 15th June. On the same day, on Koh Pahngan, 'the Moonm' trail starts with distances ranging from 100km to 15km. I will be participating in the 15K race on Sunday 16th June.

Plenty of other things to do as well for you.
