Goodbye to November 2019

Goodbye to November 2019

It's the last day of that dreaded rainy season month and a good moment to say goodbye to November 2019. Problem is, if you can call it a problem, that there was hardly anything to dread last month.
This years rainy season didn't really start until the last week of November.
Before that, the first 3 weeks of this month, were beautiful. Lots of sunshine, lots of blue or partially clouded skies and yes, there was an occasional shower. However, nothing like we sometimes experience during a 'normal' or standard rainy season. That was all kept for the last week of the month.
Here the rainy season kind of roared it''s ugly and wet mouth, but it was ll within reason. Yes, there were of course the known hot spots where the flash floods happen. All in all though, an exceptionally nice November this 2019 version.

Even this morning, it is starting out partially clouded with a 25C temperature at 7am.

Goodbye to November 2019

Goodbye to November 2019

Broken spirit houses are placed next to the road in Choengmon. Near the Tongsai Bay hotel. Have you ever seen this before? If a spirit house, which is used to protect and bless the house you live in, breaks, it placed on a raod. Typically it's placed on a location where many accidents happen or happened. It's common use to honk your motorbike or car horn three times when you pass such a location. These stretches of broken spirit houses can be found all over Koh Samui and for that matter, all over Thailand.

The last third of this month I find myself on Malapascau in the Philippines, teaching a PADI IDC here. The next coming days we should be under the influence of typhoon Kammury, We're on the outskirts of it though. It will be interesting though.

Time to look forward though, tomorrow is the start of a new month. We're also closing in on the end of the year! Always exciting times.
Enjoy your time on the island and let's cross our fingers that the rain isn't too bad over the next couple of weeks.

Please do 'like' my Koh Samui blog Facebook page and enjoy the beaches around the island or in front of your hotel or resort and get some well deserved rest and a break.

If you're done resting or need something else to do, there's plenty of things on offer on and around Koh Samui, you can go snorkeling or diving or take a dive course.

Join me in a private dive trip with yours sincerely!

You can also enjoy some of the trips I recommend, like a half day gourmet lunch and snorkeling trip at the Southern part of Koh Samui or a photography trip where you get to see the most photo genetic spots on the island or go for a drinks tasting tour if you like a tipple or two.

You may also opt for a very special dinner experience at The Thai Experience. Behind closed doors, reservation only and a very enjoyable and well worthwhile way of spending an evening on Samui. Authentic Thai food and a great atmosphere. Can highly recommend this experience.

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 18th November – 24th November 2019

It's Sunday morning and time for the Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 18th November – 24th November 2019.
I'm in the Philippines right now. On the small island of Malapascua, which is at the northern point of Cebu island. I will be here for another two weeks. A PADI IDC is in the making here. The weather is grand in the mornings here but mostly cloudy in the afternoons. Occasionally a showers hits. Current temperature at 9am is 30C

In the meantime, back on Koh Samui it also looks lovely. at 8am local time we have a blue sky and the Celsius is working it's way up. Right now it's 27C. Expect an unexpected hot and dry day in late November!

The Imperial Boathouse has been under construction for well over a year by now. Last week I got a first glance at the entry area. Still a lot of work needs to be done!

Last week saw another a-typical November week in the Samui archipelago. We had a few sunny and hot days. On the other hand, we had a few rain showers on Tuesday en Wednesday as well. But nothing like during a typical rainy season. Maximum temperature last week reached 33C. The minimum temperature dipped down to 22C during the very late nights / early mornings.

In front of my room on Malapascua in the Philippines. A small beach that is used for repairing local boats. As you can see, the boats are/have outriggers. A very different way of building boats compared to Thailand.

The tail end of this month might slowly show what the rainy season is like. Come Tuesday the wind starts to pick up and the rain starts to show up. Still nothing too serious but it looks like the nice a-typical November days are coming to an end.
If you are on the island, I hope you will enjoy it!

Wat Plai Laem earlier this week, during the yearly Loy Kratong festival. The Meh Guan statue at night time.Well lit up and popular as ever.

Last week around Koh Samui was gorgeous. Plenty of sunshine, including a blue sky all day long on Wednesday. The rest of the week was partially cloudy. We had just the one shower in Plai Laem on Friday.
Maximum temperature last week reached just one time 34C. The minimum dropped to 22C.
So far this has been a tremendous month of November. Hardly any rain and plenty of sunshine. Not your typical rainy season month at all. Let's see how things look like for next week.

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 4th November – 10th November 2019

It's Sunday morning, that means it's time for the Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 4th November – 10th November 2019.

The long run is in the can and I find myself in Khao Lak. Tomorrow I will be on my way back to Koh Samui.

It's partially clouded this morning around Koh Samui and at 8.30am the current temperature is a very cool 23C. The morning may see a shower or even a thunderstorm.

In Khao Lak it's around 27C and cloudy to partially cloudy. Since yesterday there's no rain. The ocean is flat and the diving is improving at near by dive sites.

Lamai beach, earlier this week, as seen from White Sand resort. This is near Hin Ta, Hin Yai. Nice and quiet and no waves. Pretty good for November.

Last week gave us a rather untypical November week. Plenty of sunshine and hardly any rain. Maximum temperature reached 33C. The lowest temperature during the night time didn't drop below 24C. A really nice November week indeed.

The obligatory updated picture of Rua 817 in Khao Lak. It seems like I'm documenting the ever changing landscape at the boat. A new wall has been build around the boat. It's still an impressive monument of the 2004 tsunami.

Next week does also look good. The second November week of this year shows predicts some light showers from Wednesday onward. Nothing too serious though. Specifically not like the rainy season mode that November may have later this month.
Enjoy it while it lasts and if you're on the island, now is still a good time to go out and about.

It;s Sunday morning and a good time to check the Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 28th October – 3rd November 2019.
The running is out of the way, we went all the way to Rajjaprabha Dam, just South of Surat Thani. The International Mountain Marathon event was on, I participated in the 10km race only though. I managed to place 7th in my age group of 50-59 years old.

It's 10am and the current temperature is 29C under a partially cloudy sky with plenty of sunshine. It looks like a nice day is in the making,

At Rajjaprabha Dam it's a slightly cooler but also partially clouded. It started out really nice with a clear sky earlier this morning.

Big Buddha on Koh Samui. Great location to visit, enjoy the views and get some real good pictures. There's a beautiful view over Bang Rak bay among others.

Last week some a mixed weather bag move over Koh Samui. The maximum temperature hit 34C last week, The minimum temperature got stuck at 23C. There were a few tropical showers and some thunderstorms. Nothing too serious though. That's probably coming later this month. November is well known for it's rainy season around Koh Samui.

After the International Mountain Marathon at Rajjaprabha Dam near Surat Thani. I participated in the 10k distance and my family in the 5k distance. Our eldest daughter couldn't join us since she had extra study lessons at school today. The dam lake is in the background.

The forecast for next week is a fair bit clouds, possibly partially cloudy skies and a few showers are possible throughout the week.
Enjoy this coming week, as long as it seems to stay dry. Once we move towards mid November, the rainy season may roar it's 'ugly' head.

Welcome to November 2019

Welcome to November 2019

Day one of a new month and we say a warm Welcome to November 2019! We need that warm welcome! November means for Koh Samui's the rainy season is here!
Our rainy seasons kind of runs from mid-November through to mid-December. Very occasionally we have a nice and dry rainy season, but don't bet on it.
More typically it may rain fro days on an end with all the fun that comes or goes along with it. Flash floods, flooded roads and water just about everywhere. Your laundry can't get dry and become moldy. The fun just doesn't stop.

Many times, small boats and vessels can't go out because the waves are too high. It's all about to happen soon.
Right now however, around 10am it's partially cloudy and the sun has been in and out behind the clouds. With a nice and cool 28C, it's great. However, towards next weekend, the rain might start showing up.

Welcome to November 2019

Welcome to November 2019

The big statue of a monk at Wat Bophud. This is Luang Pu Thuat. He was born in 1582 (2125 BE) and died 1682 (2225 BE) in Ayer Kala, Lenggong, Perak, Malaysia. He is a revered Buddhist monk who lived in Siam. He is said to have performed miracles. All over Southern Thailand you can find temples with massive statues of him. This is our Samui one. Many provinces have one or more big statues of this monk.

If you find yourself on Koh Samui during November, I hope you will still be able to enjoy your time here. Hopefully this rainy season isn't going to be too bad. Let's cross our fingers
