Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 19th March –25th March 2018

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 19th March –25th March 2018

It Sunday morning and time for the Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 19th March –25th March 2018. The weekend run has been done, I participated in the 6th Koh Samui midnight run, which started perfectly at midnight last night and came in third in my age group of 50+.
This morning is starting out nicely with partial cloud cover and a hazy sky. The temperature at 8am is 28.5C and quickly rising. A shower later during the day may well be an option.

In two hours time I will find myself on the Seatran ferry to the mainland again, to start a PADI IDC tomorrow on Koh Lanta. I was barely three days at home this time around, just coming back from a month long trip for two consecutive PADI IDC programs in Khao Lak and on Phuket.

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 19th March –25th March 2018; Part of the Koh Samui swamps, also known as the mangrove forest in the deep South of the island, at Phang Ka. Well worth a visit. There are narrow bridges that can be followed, until you reach a dead end, like shown here.

Last week saw the temperature rise a bit around Koh Samui. Most days it was partially cloudy with a little bit of rain thrown in yesterday, during a very cloudy day. Maximum temperatures ranged between 30 and 32C but it felt a lot warmer at times.

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 19th March –25th March 2018; Kata beach on Phuket during a sunset. With my PADI IDC candidate we made a night dive there as part of his specialty instructor training.

The forecast for next week is looking good. Maybe a few more clouds compared to this week and towards the end of the week possibly a few thunderstorms could come our way. It will get warmer and warmer, almost by the day. April is coming up soon and that's when the real heat will be unleashed upon us!

Please do 'like' my Koh Samui blog Facebook page and enjoy the beaches around the island or in front of your hotel or resort and get some well deserved rest and a break. If you're done resting or need something else to do, there's plenty of things on offer on and around Koh Samui, you can go snorkeling or diving or take a dive course. You can also enjoy some of the trips I recommend, like a half day gourmet lunch and snorkeling trip at the Southern part of Koh Samui or a photography trip where you get to see the most photo genetic spots on the island or go for a drinks tasting tour if you like a tipple or two.

Late Sunday morning, another race day done and time for the Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 12th March –18th March 2018.
It's very nice around Koh Samui this morning with a blue sky and just a few clouds hanging around. It's going to be a hot one today! Current temperature at 10.30am is already 32.3C and rising and it feels a lot hotter already!

On Phuket it's partially cloudy and 31C at 10.30am and it looks like the temperature may rise here as well. We had a couple of recent very warm days.
Wednesday morning I will be on my way back to Samui, and will participate in the sixth Koh Samui Midnight run on Saturday 24th march, see you there!

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 12th March –18th March 2018

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 12th March –18th March 2018; Phang Ka beach in Southern Koh Samui, very nice and quiet. One of the unexplored and unexploited beaches on koh Samui. Well worth checking out but bring your own drinks and all you need (and don't leave anything as trash when you leave!)

Last week saw some rain in the beginning of the week. From Wednesday onward the sun was out and about again and the temperature started rising. Maximum was 31C and low was 30C last week. A nice and average week for March around Koh Samui.

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 12th March –18th March 2018

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 12th March –18th March 2018; Paklok beach on the East coast of Phuket in Thalang. This morning I had a 15km race here and saw this beach for the first time. It's not on the beaten track but lovely nonetheless.

The forecast for next week is looking good. However next weekend may see some rain. Friday it may start with possibly some real hard rain on Saturday morning. Enjoy the week until Thursday and we may need some cooling down over the weekend.

Welcome to March 2018

 Welcome to March 2018

First day of the new month and a good moment to say Welcome to March 2018. March is usually a nice month, expect plenty of sunshine, not much rain and slowly rising temperatures. Nice and agreeable just before the sizzling hot April days start. The daily temperatures during March will slowly rise and towards the end of the month it will start to get hot.
A hidden gem on Koh Samui's yearly calendar and a great month to visit. It's relatively quiet with great weather conditions, what else do you want?

The 24th March will see the the already sixth edition of the Koh Samui Midnight Run, with a midnight start in front of the Reggae Pub. A blog post on this will follow soon.

Welcome to March 2018

Welcome to March 2018; Beach scene in Phang Ka, in the very South of Koh Samui, the less developed part of the island. The beach here is small and narrow and the water rather shallow but it's secluded and long stretches of empty beach can be found here.

If you're on Samui this month, enjoy the March sunshine and if you can't make it this month, we are looking forward to greet you to on of the other nine months left in this year!

Goodbye to January 2018

Goodbye to January 2018

It's 31st day of this month and time to say Goodbye to January 2018. After having missed the December 2017 Goodbye blog, we're back on track.
It's nice and fairly sunny under a partially clouded sky with a current temp of 30.1C at 10am.

The weather this month wasn't that great. 12 out of the 31 days saw rain and we had some really hard rain early on in the month. There were also a few days with flash floods, but the flash floods never lasted too long.
A mediocre to average January an d nothing like it was one year ago, when Koh Samui endured some serious long and hard rain with lots of flash floods.
Maximum temperatures ranged from 28C to 33C.

Goodbye to January 2018

Goodbye to January 2018; A buffalo roaming near the sea side in Phang Ka, the southern part of Koh Samui

Especially the last couple of days were nice and a bit of an idea of what February most likely is going to be. It's also becoming warmer again, little by little, day by day.

The forecast for next month is a few days including the weekend might see a little bit of rain but in general it should clear up after that and be nice and enjoyable with plenty of sun.

Please do 'like' my Koh Samui blog Facebook page and enjoy the beaches around the island or in front of your hotel or resort and get some well deserved rest and a break. Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 15th January – 21st January, 2018; A giant statue of a sail fish being caught by local fishermen at Ao Nang beach in Krabi province. After a few years I found myself back in Ao Nang for two days, the duration of a PADI IE (instructor exam for scuba instructors) which I visited with two of my PADI IDC candidates from the January PADI IDC on Koh Lanta.

The forecast for next week is looking good. From Wednesday onward a little bit of wind and occasionally the chance of a tropical shower. During the beginning of the week is the best time to see the sun come out and work on your tan.

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 8th January – 14th January, 2018

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 8th January – 14th January, 2018; A swing on a fairly isolated beach in the South on Koh Samui, in the Phang Ka area. Very enjoyable and relaxing.

Last week saw a fair amount of rain and especially Thursday saw plenty of rain combined with a lot of flash flooding. Only three days stayed dry with the sun peeping out. Maximum temperatures ranged from 28 to 31C

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 8th January – 14th January, 2018

Koh Samui, Thailand daily weather update; 8th February, 2017

Today's weather;

The sky is blue, the sun is red hot and you have the ingredients for a lovely day around Koh Samui today. A few isolated clouds may be looming around but better have the sun lotion within hand reach today. Current temp at 7am is 27C

On Koh Lanta my PADI IDC candidates all successfully passed the PADI IE, all seven of them, with flying colors! There are some clouds in the sky but it's very blue and it looks like another hot day is in the making. Current temp at 7am is 24C

This morning I will drive over to Phuket and start a new PADI IDC program there tomorrow.

Koh Samui, Thailand daily weather update; 8th February, 2017

Koh Samui, Thailand daily weather update; 8th February, 2017; A small altar in the Guanyin temple in Pangka Ka, the Southern part of the island. Very much out of the way of everything but well worth a visit, not only for the temple but to see the unspoiled part of our island

Yesterday saw a nice and warm day around Koh Samui with plenty of sunshine but also with a nice breeze which cooled things down a bit. Max temp reached 31C

Koh Samui, Thailand daily weather update; 8th February, 2017

Koh Samui, Thailand daily weather update; 8th February, 2017; Tinglish (a mix between English and Thai) can be very funny at times. This building can be found near Ban Saladan on Koh Lanta, next to the police station. Let the games begin?

The forecast for the next seven days remains looking good. Possibly a bit cloudy tomorrow, and as of Sunday some stronger wind and possibly some isolated rain showers on Saturday. Plenty of sunshine ahead of us though and a great time to relax at the beach, take a dive trip or dive course and enjoy the excellent current diving conditions, or participate in one of the island tours you can book through me, a half day gourmet picnic and snorkeling trip, a photography tour or a drinks tasting tour.

Koh Samui, Thailand daily weather update; 23rd August, 2016

Today's weather;

A very thin cloud layer is about to be burned up by the sun this morning and it seems that Koh Samui is heading for a lovely and sunny morning and day ahead of us. Current temp at 7am is 28C

Koh Samui, Thailand daily weather update; 23rd August, 2016

Outside, in the woods at the Guanyin temple in Phang Ka. Far away from the trodden path on Koh Samui but well worth a visit, in the Southern, less developed part of the island

Yesterday saw a nice and warm and mostly sunny day around Koh Samui with a max temp of 33C

The forecast is still looking good for the next ten days, with some subtle changes. The wind should almost be gone by now but Thursday and Friday now show cloudy skies with some hard possibly on Saturday. After the weekend it should really clear up and lots of sunshine should be coming our way.

Koh Samui, Thailand daily weather update; 4th August, 2016

Today's weather;

It's grey and very cloudy over Koh Samui this morning and I would expect some rain today, although not too much. Current temp at 7am is 28C

On Phuket it's not much different, all of Thailand suffers being on the outskirts of typhoon Nida, that hangs over the general Hong Kong area. Right now it's dry but it may well rain later today here. Current temp at 7am is 28.4C

Today the whole current July/August PADI IDC on Phuket will be on the boat to the nearby Raya islands for the open water dives of said PADI IDC. This is the last part of the course and tomorrow we should have a day off before the PADI IE starts this coming Saturday.

Koh Samui, Thailand daily weather update; 4th August, 2016

The Chinese style Guanyin Temple in Phang Ka, the Southern part of Koh Samui. A great place to visit in one of the beautiful parts of the island, where Samui still looks like many years ago

Yesterday saw a cloudy and windy day around Koh Samui with occasionally some showers. Max temp reached 31C

Koh Samui, Thailand daily weather update; 4th August, 2016

The entrance to Wat Kitti Sangkaram in Kata on Phuket, where during the early hours of each week day it's busy because parents drop their children off for school. As like with many temples in Thailand, this temple also houses a school.

The forecast doesn't look too good, we're about to say goodbye to the Nida typhoon and a new storm weather pattern is showing up and may reach Samui's shores come next Wednesday. It may be slightly less cloudy but the wind pretty much stays , picking up in strength next Thursday, into the weekend and there may be showers all along. Not the best start to a Samui August!

Goodbye to June 2016

Goodbye to June 2016

It's time to say Goodbye to June 2016 and have a look at the weather conditions of this month around Koh Samui. It's been an interesting month of June this year, with plenty of sunshine during the first two weeks of June, making it very hot and having the hottest day of the year sofar with one day hitting the 38C mark.

This was very unusual for a typical June and the second half of this month saw more typical June weather with partial or fully covered and cloudy skies with tropical showers coming in on a regular base, sometimes accompanied by a strong breeze.

Goodbye to June 2016

A deer skull at the Chinese Temple of Guanyin in Phang Ka. There used to be a lot of deer around Koh Samui, in a lot or rather most old or traditional Samui houses you will find a reference to deer in the house hold, in the form of skulls or small wooden deer heads or the like.

During this June of 2016 I was home on Koh Samui all month and enjoyed a visit by my sister and her husband who came to visit their son who is participating in a six month internship at the Tongsai Bay hotel, one of the very first five start hotels on the island.

We had dinner at our treasured and favorite place including Kobori the Japanese restaurant in Maenam and JuzzaPizza in Fishermans Village.

This month I also had the opportunity to participate in two running races, the yearly Cancer Care run in Nathon, which I now participated in for six consecutive years and last weekend I ran the 12th Donsak minimarathon.

Now it's time to look ahead, to the 2016 July version, which will see me in Moalboal in the Philippines and on Phuket for PADI IDC programs, a busy month for travelling and work again.

Chinese Temple of Guanyin in Phang Ka

Chinese Temple of Guanyin in Phang Ka

In March we spotted this Chinese Temple of Guanyin in Phang Ka, when we were retunring on the boat from our visit to the U Koh Madsum resort and we saw the profilic pagoda shape looking out over the Phang Ka bay. This just asked for being visited and explored, so after landing at the pier and colecting our car, we headed out to find this well hidden temple.

Chinese Temple of Guanyin in Phang Ka

Chinese Temple of Guanyin in Phang Ka; The main temple

It is not too far from Sweet Sisters Cafe and you can easily squeeze in a stop here to satsify your stomach, so we're looking at the Southern end of the island, you can find the Chinese Temple of Guanyin in Phang Ka here on Google maps.
We had to ask for directiosn twice, but once you find it, it is well worth a visit. Check the previous link to help you find it.

Chinese Temple of Guanyin in Phang Ka

Chinese Temple of Guanyin in Phang Ka; A small pagoda near the entrance

It is well away from the throdden path, thus also very quiet and relaxed. It's also a fairly small area so it doesn't take hours to discover everything although you can easily spend hours in the quiet surroundings of this temple.

Chinese Temple of Guanyin in Phang Ka

Chinese Temple of Guanyin in Phang Ka; Inside the pagoda near the entrance

Straight at the entrance to the Temple grounds, there's a pagoda and nearby you can also park your car or motorbike. From here you can walk the surroundings and visit the buildings but there are also plenty of statues to admire and explore.

Chinese Temple of Guanyin in Phang Ka

Chinese Temple of Guanyin in Phang Ka; A big Buddha statue

Near the sitting Buddha statue are tree trunks covered with clothes and other gifts, which gives a strange feel to that particular area of the Temple grounds. It shows once more that he Thai people in general are still very much attached to nature, the way they make merit and involve nature in this process.

Chinese Temple of Guanyin in Phang Ka

Chinese Temple of Guanyin in Phang Ka; A small statue of a reclining Buddha figure

This small statue caught my attention and I like it a lot. A reclining Buddha statue, very nicely done. The whole setting just looked perfect to me.
There are plenty of other statues to be explored and found, from big ones to small ones just like the one pictured above.

Chinese Temple of Guanyin in Phang Ka

Chinese Temple of Guanyin in Phang Ka; A room with plenty of Budha statues and related relics

The Chinese Temple of Guanyin in Phang Ka is really out of the way but when you decide to visit here, there are so many other things that you can check out on the way down to this quiet corner of Koh Samui, to keep you busy for more than just a day. It's well worth a visit and you can get some nice pictures to boot.

Hope you enjoyed this blog post of our trip this Chinese Temple of Guanyin in Phang Ka. Its a unique temple and it's waiting for you!

Evening snacks in Kata on Phuket, all kinds of barbecued food on sticks or some dried squid, a prime sample of food on wheels!

For the next ten days we should have a light breeze at times, mostly partially cloudy skies and occasionally some heavier clouds moving in. It looks like the 15th Samui Regatta that is scheduled to start the 21st May, may end up with some nice breeze or wind.

Right now I'm on Phuket and on my way own home. It's nice and blue skies and hot during the day time. Current temp at 7am is 27C

Due to Songkran the ferries are full today and tomorrow there's only one ferry left with space for a reservation, the 7.30am one, so I will stay overnight in Surat Thani and catch the early morning ferry tomorrow morning, getting me home early in the day!

At the Chinese Temple of Guanyin in Phang Ka in southern Koh Samui, a tree is being worshiped and lots of clothes are hung up and in the tree for good luck
