Last week was not so great weather around Koh Samui. Every day some rain at some stage, Sometimes very hard rain and a couple of thunderstorms were thrown in for good measure as well. It wasn't only rain though, there were sunny moments as well but either way, there was a fairly strong wind blowing all week long, culminating in this weekend. Max temperatures last week ranged from 31C to 33C

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 3rd July – 9th July, 2017

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 3rd July – 9th July, 2017

It's Sunday morning and time for the Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 3rd July – 9th July, 2017.
Today it's nice and sunny around Koh Samui with a few isolated clouds in it. Current temp at 8am is already 30C and it feels a lot warmer! Better prepare for a sunny day and have that sun lotion at the ready!

Currently I'm back on Phuket for the July 2017 PADI IDC and the weather has been fairly cloudy, with sometimes some sunshine and a few tropical showers. Very similar to Koh Samui's weather pattern last week.

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 3rd July – 9th July, 2017; The beach at North Chaweng. It's nice and a lot more quiet here, with a nice reef in front of it.

Last week was not as good as predicted. Almost each day had rain at some stage during the day. Mostly typical tropical showers, with some hard rain for a short period of time. There were also sunny moments but as not as much as hoped for. However, this kind of weather is fairly typical for a July on Koh Samui and the surrounding archipelago. Max temperatures ranged between 32C and 34C

The forecast for next week is looking good. Similar to last week, with possibly some more sunshine this week but towards the second half of the week also with some tropical showers.

Welcome to July 2017 and goodbye to June 2017

Welcome to July 2017 and goodbye to June 2017

A new month has started and it's time to say Welcome to July 2017 and goodbye to June 2017.

July is not known for it's blue skies and sunny weather, like it is today. July is rather a mixed bag kind of month, with occasionally some nice and sunny days but mostly overcloud days with a few showers thrown in for good measure! Oh, don't forget the days with some hard wind. The last four years have been mostly just like that, as you can see in my posts over recent years.
The start of the month has been very good, hot and sunny, and the forecast for the first week is good, without much or any rain at all. Let's see how long this July version of 2017 can hold on to this promising start.

Welcome to July 2017 and goodbye to June 2017

Welcome to July 2017 and goodbye to June 2017; Current and old style buildings at Thipparat school in Maenam, the current school of our oldest daughter

Last month, June 2017 was a tad bit under an average June for Koh Samui weather expectations. It seems there was a tad bit more rain than usual during June. There were a bunch of sunny days but there was also plenty of rain. This can be expected during an average June on Koh Samui so it was not a big surprise. The rain was mostly of short duration however and were sometimes accompanied by an occasional thunderstorm. Max temperatures ranged from 28C, just this one single day was below 30C and most days were around 32-33C.

Welcome to July 2017 and goodbye to June 2017

Welcome to July 2017 and goodbye to June 2017; All schools around the northern part of Koh Samui seem to have been adding buildings to their schools, to meet the demand and increase of new students. So also the school of our oldest daughter, the Theeparatpittaya School, or mostly just named Thipparat. This is a new building, constructed behind the current buildings, with plenty of more space to expand if needed.

I spend the first two weeks of June on Phuket, just like I will with the first two weeks of July. Highlight in June was the Koh Samui marathon for me, during which I ran the half marathon and placed second in my age category 50-59. The previous weekend I ran a 10km trail on Phuket, which was a also a great experience, coming in third in my age group of 40+!
Tomorrow it's off again to Phuket and  the second part of the month I should be back on Koh Samui again.
But first let's visit the Green market this afternoon!

It's nice and sunny today with a very blue sky. Current temp at 11am is 32C. It's going to be hot day today!

Last week saw a few sunny days but there was also a lot of rain during last week. A bit wetter than you may have expected during an average June week.
Just two nights ago there was a lot of hard rain going hand in hand with a thunderstorm.
Max temperatures ranged from 30C last Sunday to 34C yesterday.

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 26th June – 2nd July, 2017

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 26th June – 2nd July, 2017; Road construction at Big Buddha. The whole Big Buddha will be at last become a dust free zone. Just hang in for a few more days so the work can be completed and concrete can be laid down.

The forecast for next week is looking fairly good. A fair amount of overcast is predicted but hardly any rain at all is expected during next week. It's looking on the up side again, let's hope the forecast will actually follow up on this!
