Goodbye to September 2019

Goodbye to September 2019

It's the last day of the month and time to say Goodbye to September 2019.

Although there were some nice and sunny days throughout this month, there were a few rainy days as well.
We even had two days with serious flash floods. All in all not as good as an average September but still ok.

Goodbye to September 2019

Goodbye to September 2019

At Wat Plai Laem two new buildings are being constructed. The two buildings are meant to keep the bodies of deceased people in them until the cremation ceremony can start. They are very Chinese style looking. It seems the temple has plenty of money to keep constructing new buildings.

There were also two running events this month. One was the trail and half marathon event during this years edition of the Samui Festival. I ran the 5km race and managed to get 4th spot in my age category. There were plenty of other events throughout Samui during the Samui Festival. Including music live shows.
A week later was the 6th edition of the Run to Give or Mad hatter charity run. Here I placed 2nd in my age category.

Now it's time to look forward to the start of October. See you next month!

Please do 'like' my Koh Samui blog Facebook page and enjoy the beaches around the island or in front of your hotel or resort and get some well deserved rest and a break.

If you're done resting or need something else to do, there's plenty of things on offer on and around Koh Samui, you can go snorkeling or diving or take a dive course.

Join me in a private dive trip with yours sincerely!

You can also enjoy some of the trips I recommend, like a half day gourmet lunch and snorkeling trip at the Southern part of Koh Samui or a photography trip where you get to see the most photo genetic spots on the island or go for a drinks tasting tour if you like a tipple or two.

You may also opt for a very special dinner experience at The Thai Experience. Behind closed doors, reservation only and a very enjoyable and well worthwhile way of spending an evening on Samui. Authentic Thai food and a great atmosphere. Can highly recommend this experience.

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 21st September – 29th September 2019

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 21st September – 29th September 2019

We're at the end of the week again and it's time for the Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 21st September – 29th September 2019.
This morning I completed my first long slow distance run since over two months. It all went well and my next running goal will be the half marathon in Surat Thani come 15th December.

Today the weather is great. A mostly blue sky with almost no wind. The temperature at 11am is a nice 29C.

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 21st September – 29th September 2019

Yesterday the two week Thaa Yai came to an end. The deceased that were welcomed two weeks ago, have been sent on their way again until next year. Here is part of the food offered to the monks at the Wat Plai Laem temple. The amount of food being offered should keep them going for at least a week or more! Lots f big buckets and pots and pans have already been filled to the brim and are not to be seen in this picture.

Last week was anything but the way it was predicted. Plenty of cloud cover and showers. Friday morning we also had a massive thunderstorm pass over. This one caused immediate flash floods at the usual spots. Most of the flash floods were gone again within an hour and a half at most.

Maximum temperatures reached 32C just once, early last week. Most of the week was in the high twenties. The minimum temperature reached 23C.

Some of the offered food to the monks. This is mainly fruit and khanom or sweets. The fresh food, the curries and rice and such are portrayed on the picture above.

The forecast looks good once more. Hardly any clouds or wind are predicted for next week. There may be some tropical showers though. Short but possible hard showers. Enjoy your time on the island and get in touch if you're up for some of the trips on offer.

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 16th September – 22nd September 2019

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 16th September – 22nd September 2019

It's Sunday morning and time for the Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 16th September – 22nd September 2019.

This morning our family participate in the 6th Run to Give - Mad hatter run at 'The Wharf' in Fisherman's Village. In the 10km race I came in second in my age category of 50+ and 12th all over. My time was 46'19 with a 4'38 pace. That's ok considering I'm only back in training since three weeks. After pretty much not having run for a month.

The weather today is rather cloudy. This morning it stayed dry but around 8am a drizzle started, continuing to the current 11am time. Current temperature is a nice and cool 27C. Love it like that!

The 'amphur' building in Nathon. Kind of like the town hall or districts office. Amphur's are the second level administrative subdivision and make up the province. There can be a few Amphur's or districts in a province.

Last week saw a few very windy and cloudy days with some showers at the beginning of the week. The sun broke through later during the week, for clouds and rain or rather a drizzle make it's comeback today. Maximum temperature just about reached 33C yesterday afternoon. The minimum temperature got stuck at 22C

For next week the forecast is looking really good. Possibly some more rain today but tomorrow possibly cloudy with light rain. The rest of the week however should be very nice and sunny! Crank out the sun lotion and enjoy Koh Samui's beaches and sight seeing attractions. Soak in the sun and enjoy!

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 9th September – 15th September 2019

Sunday afternoon, and time for the Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 9th September – 15th September 2019.
It's a cloudy afternoon and at 1pm the current temperature is a cool 29C.

This morning I participated in the Samui Festival running event. The 5km race was on my schedule and I came in 21nd all over and 4th in my age group 50-59 years! Despite having a very fast 4'19 pace per km, I was a bit surprised that I didn't fare any better in the rankings. However, having said that, the first 3 in each age category for all distances, received price money. That surely brings out the freaks, so to speak.
Next week at the Wharf, a charity run, will only see local Samui runners.

There was also a cycling event this morning, which caused a few traffic jams around the ring road! All in all, a great event, well organized and fun to participate in.

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 9th September – 15th September 2019

Last week we had some hardcore flash floods Monday and Tuesday afternoon. All hell broke loose and the usual hot spots flooded in no time. Above you can see a picture Bang Rak on Tuesday afternoon. Each day, just after an hour or so, the water levels dropped again. No worries there. The next day was also nice, when all the mud turns into dust!
The rest fo the week was surprisingly nice. Partially cloudy to sunny.
Except for last night when it rained again. Yesterday may have seen a shower or two around the island as well.
Maximum temperatures reached 34C. The minimum got stuck at 22C

Yesterday morning, Saturday, saw the yearly Tha yai event in the temples around Samui. This is at Wat Plai Laem.

For next week we have a forecast of strong wind and tropical showers until Wednesday. Come Thursday it should clear up again nnd we should be able to welcome the sun again.

Hope you will have a grand time if you're on Samui this week! Enjoy what the island has to offer!

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 2nd September – 8th September 2019

Sunday morning and time for the Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 2nd September – 8th September 2019.
It's nice and sunny outside and at 10am we already have a current temperature of 31C. And rising! It's looking like a warm day is in the making. Clouds are opening up and moving out of the way for a nice blue sky.

This week was nice. We also had a few showers during the morning mainly, but mostly partially clouded skies with warm days.
Maximum temperatures reached 33C during the last two days. Minimum temperature reached 22C early last week. A fair start into the new month.

A new structure has been erected or build at Hua Thanon's ocean side. There's lots of parking space and it connects to the local market. Especially the seafood market is well known around the island for it;s freshness. Well worth a visit if you make a trip around the island. In Hua Thanon you can also see many original Hainan style local houses.

The forecast for next week is looking good. Monday might be wet but most other days should have partially clouded skies as a minimum. The wind has completely disappeared, so it might get hot.
Come next weekend, first of all we will have the Samui Festival activities. Including the various running races on Sunday. Secondly, the wind is about to pick up. Maybe a cool day's running lies ahead of us.
Hope to see you next Sunday in Nathon for the Samui Festival runs.
If you're on the island this week, go out and about. Enjoy the predicted nice weather.

Welcome to September 2019

Welcome to September 2019

It's that time of the month again and we can say a well meant Welcome to September 2019. This month typically carries on the nice and good weather from August. A lot of times it's even better compared to August.
The first couple of days may be windy and with some rain. However, the first weekend of this brand new month looks just splendid. Hardly any clouds and plenty of sunshine.

Welcome to September 2019

Welcome to September 2019

One of the many different statues you can find at the Magic Garden. Towering high above the island, in the middle of durian plantations, you can find the Magic Garden. Turn into the road opposite Wat Khunaram and follow the road up the mountain. Signs will guide you to find the right way. Well worth a vist. First of all for the stunning views from above during the ascent. Secondly, to actually visit the Magic Garden itself.

This month will also two great running events. First of all the one on 15th September. This is part of the much bigger 'Samui Festival' This festival will rage over the island for a couple of days. With live music, a bicycle event, running events and much more.
Secondly come 22nd September the '6th Mad Hatter run'. Unfortunately both events are sold out.
Hope to see you there!

If you're on the island this month, a good choice! Enjoy the island, it's surrounding islands and hopefully good weather. Plus all we have to offer so you feel welcome here.

One of the two mummified monks on Koh Samui. This mummified monk is located at Wat Kiri Whongkaram in Baan Taling Ngaam. A more out of the way and quiet temple in the south eastern corner of the island.

The forecast for next week, the first September week of 2019, is looking good. Partially cloudy with some strong winds at times until Thursday. Occasionally some rain can be expected as well during this time frame. However, as of Friday it should turn really sunny and warm again.
Enjoy September on the island, a good time to be here. Go out and explore the island and have fun doing so. Be safe on the roads and enjoy the island.
