Good morning on this lovely Sunday morning and here we go with the Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 24th August – 30th August 2020.

It's a sunny Sunday morning and since February it's the first time I'm not on Koh Samui. Last night I did a box jelly fish presentation on Koh Phangan. Today it's back to Koh Samui again. In an hour or so the ferry back should leave.

Obviously I got my long slow distance run in this morning. 21.8km on Koh Phangan. Very hilly but nice and relaxed. Just over 2 hours of running.

It's partially cloudy at 9.30am but the sun is out and it looks like a hot one is in the making today. Current temperature is 31C but it feels a lot warmer.

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 24^th August – 30^th August 2020

One of the best sunsets this year took place last Wednesday. The sky turned a magical orange. This picture is taken by Heike Frutig on Koh Phangan.

Last week the max temperature reached 35C yesterday and a few days 34C. It was hot at times. We had a few times some rain showers during the evening or night. This lead to a minimum temperature of 23C last week. A really nice last week og August to end this month.

The Covid situation in Thailand is very stable. There seemed to have been 2 infections last week, the first infections in over 90 days. However, the international borders seem to remain closed for the remainder of this year. Tourism is getting the final nail in the coffin it seems. Too many business, shops, restaurants, hotels, bars and you name it, will not be able to survive that long wait. Especially not smaller businesses.

There's talk of a Phuket travel bubble and retiree winter stay of 270 days. However, you need a 2 week quarantine in your hotel. I don't see that happen for a pretty normal, standard tourist who only has 3 or 4 weeks holiday per year. It looks at the moment as if the Thai authorities are aiming high end and expensive tourism options only.

The last weeks I reported about 7-11 and Family Mart shops being closed on Koh Samui. Selected outlets are also closed during the night time and only open during the day time and early evening hours. Some outlets don't open their advertising front of house lights either. A strange sight indeed.

Haad Salad on Koh Phangan. Just like Koh Samui, nobody on the beach or in town. Beautiful but no tourists. Hotels are closed or only partially open. Sad to see how so many people are losing everything they build up over many years.

The forecast for next week is looking good. Light cloud cover and an occasional shower. Stay safe folks and hope we can meet again in person soon.

Sunday morning and here we are with the Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 6th July – 12th July 2020.

Have done my first longish run again, after a bit more than a month having struggled with an injury. Today's 11km felt good. Especially after a full week of running.

It's 30C and slightly overcast this morning at 11am. Occasionally the sun peaks out. Nice and cool-ish.

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 6^th July – 12^th July 2020

Last week school started for all of our children again, This is the school for our youngest. It's her first year in the 'big' school. Very conscientious social distancing rules are in place. Firstly, clean your hands with a hand sanitizer. Secondly, get your temperature checked. Thirdly, get a sticker, stating you've done the two previous steps. Last but not least, chairs are set up with 1.5 meters distance to each side. School classes are halved, one week school, one week off. Face masks are mandatory. 

Last week saw a a fairly typical week for a July around Koh Samui. Firstly, only a little bit of rain. Secondly, plenty of partially clouded skies. Last but not least, some hot afternoons as well, with the sun breaking through. The maximum temperature last week did hit 35C in the beginning of this week. The rest of the week saw temperatures reaching 32C and 33C on a regular base. The minimum temperature dropped on a regular base to 23C. Mostly it was 24 or 25C.

Last week diving at Sail Rock. On the way in a speedboat. Koh Phangan's coast line is in the back ground.

For the forecast of this week, expect some tropical showers. Starting today. The wind might pick up this afternoon but drop again for the rest of the week. Another typical July week seems to be in the making.

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 25^th May – 31^st May 2020

Last Sunday of this month and time for the Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 25th May – 31st May 2020.

No long run today/ I'm curing a inner thigh injury. Later this week I hope to be out on the road again. In the meantime I'm doing some weights and indoor cycling training.

Today it's partially cloudy during the morning. Sometimes some sunshine, sometimes clouds. It's humid and hot though! Current temperature at 14.00am is 32C and it's cloudy. Rain is in the air.

Last week the maximum temperature reached a stunning 35C. This in combination with the humidity makes for hot and very sweaty days! The minimum actually dropped for the duration of half an hour, just that once, to 23C. It was mostly 25-26C with a handful times 24C.

We had a few showers during the week as well. Much needed and enjoyed!

Tomorrow, 1st Jun, a new round of lock down easing is going to happen. Pattaya beaches are to open again. On Koh Samui, the beaches never were really closed down, as far as I know. Bangkok Air increases to 4 daily flights to/from Bangkok. Massage places are allowed to open again. Movie theaters with restriction (no pop corn!!) are also opening up.
There's talk of opening completely up on 1st July. With international flight arrivals being allowed again and lifting of all restrictions. Including the emergency decree. Let's cross our fingers.

Next week's predictions are similar to last week. Partially cloudy skies with occasionally some tropical showers thrown in for good measure.

Sunday afternoon and time for the Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 10th June – 16th June 2019. Later than usual today since we just got back from Koh Phangan.

It's been an interesting week. Plenty of weather changes. First of all sunny skies. Secondly, mostly partially clouded skies with a very humidity which makes for hot weather. Thirdly, some tropical thunderstorms. All in a weeks work! Most importantly, this is typical June/July weather on Koh Samui during this time of the year. It's after all a minor rainy season going on. 

Today it's 33C at 2.30pm but it certainly feels a lot warmer or should I say hotter? All this under a cloudy to partially cloudy sky.

Late afternoon at Choengmon beach earlier this week. It's very quiet at this moment on Koh Samui.

Last week saw maximum temperatures of 35C. The minim reached 28C, fairly hot during the night!

As already mentioned, we had a tropical shower or two but also plenty of sunshine and warm weather.

Winner in my age group 50+ at 'The Moon' on Koh Phangan, a 15km trail run I participated in. I was 7th overall out of around 400 runners.

Walking street in Thong Sala, Koh Phangan, yesterday afternoon and evening. A very nice and interesting walking street with lots of local foods and goodies.

Next week may see another change of weather! The prediction tells us first of all plenty of strong wind. Secondly plenty of clouds. Most importantly, plenty of rain! It looks like the Celsius will drop a few degrees during next week. get the board games out!

The Moon Koh Phangan Trail run 15-16 June 2019

A big trail running event is coming up, The Moon Koh Phangan Trail run 15-16 June 2019. Just two week after the Bangkok Airways Samui half marathon on 2nd June.

The distances you can choose from are 100km, 62km, 32km and 15km. I will participate in the 15km run. A day after the Cancer Care charity 10km run in Nathon.

The 100km and 62km races will start 15th June and the 32km and 15km races start 16th June.

The Moon Koh Phangan Trail run 15-16 June 2019

Trail running is becoming very popular around Thailand and in the overall South East Asian region. However, events in Southern Thailand were rather rare. This is slowly changing. We just had the Samui cross earlier this month. A few other trail races have already taken place or are scheduled throughout the year. Including in locations like Phuket and Khanom.

It's not my favorite style of running but I will participate if the race is near enough. So far I have participated in two trail half marathons and two 10km events. My only Indonesian race was the Bromo half marathon, a few years back.

The race routes of the 4 separate trail runs on Koh Phangan. The organizers went out of their way and have pretty much 4 different routes for each race.

On Koh Phangan you can choose for 4 different distances and each distance has some serious elevation.

103 Km e-gain 5200 m+

62 Km e-gain 2700 m+

32 Km e-gain 1100 m+

15 Km e-gain 270 m+

The Moon Koh Phangan Trail run 15-16 June 2019

The elevation gain during my 15km race. It shouldn't be too bad, during my road races I sometimes cover more elevation. Running a second event in a weekend might make it hard though.

It's going to be a fun weekend. If you;re into trail running, this race is a big challenge. If trail racing is new to you, the 15km route may be a good starting point for you.

Today it's partially cloudy over Koh Samui and it looks like it's going to be another very warm or rather hot day. Current temp at almost 9am is 30C

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 20th March – 26th March, 2017; Up in the Maenam hills near a waterfall, with a lovely view over the ocean towards Koh Phangan. The waterfall can be found at the very end of Soi 5

Last week it was gorgeous and really heating up as well. Most days it was sunny with a few clouds in it and some days had a few more clouds, but it was very hot all week long. Friday actually saw a light shower at various places around the island, except where I happened to be, there it was dry all day long, although I moved around a bit that day. Max temperatures ranged from 31C to a whooping 34C

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 20th March – 26th March, 2017; Last night saw the 5th edition of the Koh Samui Midnight run, a charity event, in which I placed second in my age group of over fifties and sixth all over. The fourth time I participate and the fourth time I place second in my age group, despite the fact that I become faster each year. This year I was two and a half minutes compared to last year. The person who won my age category was however four minutes faster than me, so a fair win and he placed third all over.

This week I have received many question about the weather coming op next week(s), The forecasts are working with precipitations, which means that even if there's the slightest chance of rain or a thunderstorm that day, the icon of rain or a thunderstorm will show up. This doesn't mean at all that there will be either rain let alone a thunderstorm.

For our next week on Koh Samui, it's looking good, considering there's a real heavy rain and storm over Central Thailand (around Bangkok) and the North and North East of Thailand. The South may get some rain but nothing compared to the line North of Bangkok.

Expect some rain on Monday evening and throughout Tuesday and the rest of the week should be lovely, with a the odd chance of a shower.

The end of March and April are considered to be the hottest time of the year on Koh Samui and any rain is actually nice and will cool things down a bit. Enjoy next week and no reason to panic, there will be plenty of sunshine laying ahead of us.

Open water swimming event between Koh Samui and Koh Phangan, Saturday 13th May 2017

There will be an Open water swimming event between Koh Samui and Koh Phangan, Saturday 13th May 2017 at the Ibis hotel in Maenam. This is a charity event but it's not for the fainthearted.
The swim distance is 12km in the Samui-Phangan shipping channel and before you can register you need to meet a few prerequisites and rightly so.

The events objectives are threefold and are as follow;
1. Fund contribute to help poor cancer patients via The National Cancer Institute Foundation,      Thailand.
2. Inspiration and motivation of a new life via Sport.
3. Improve local quality of life

Open water swimming event between Koh Samui and Koh Phangan, Saturday 13th May 2017

1. Long distance swim 12 km from Koh Pangan to Koh Samui via Koh Samui channel.

2. This event is NOT a competitive event for speed or time record. The focus is to finish the course safely.

3. Organiser team will provide food and drink every 3 km.

4. For the safety, swimmers will separate in to 10 ppl 10 groups, with swim ability.

5. Participants will receive medal and certificate at the end.

6. There is no limit on swim suit, which mean any type of swim suit can be use within a safety suggestion from organiser. Ex wet suit, swim skin, long sleeve t-shirt, etc. (more detail, Please contact us, detail below)

7. Every swimmers must wear an inflatable bouy and a whistle all the time and must be at ready in position to use during the swim event for safety reason.

In order to qualify and participate, you need to have;

1. Over 6 km open water swim experience.

OR

Thailand Swimathon 2016 in 6km and 10km catagories participants are accepted. (please send in participation evidence to verify)

OR

Samed 5.5 km in 2016 participants are accepted. (please send in participation evidence to verify)

OR

Long distance Triathlon 140.6 (Swim 3.9km/Bike 180km/Run 42km)

2. Swimming pace 4:00 min/100m during long distance swim (8hr/12km)

3. All swimmers must send in your verified record, certificate or evidence for the committees to approve of your participation before attend the event.

The participation fee is 10,000 Thai Baht but includes a lot, like;

- Accomodation 2 night Twin room

- 4 Meals

- Security team and medical service from top hospital.

- Certificate with wooden frame.

- Medal

- Event sourvenir T-shirt

- Best Open water swim experience in long distance

Koh Samui, Thailand daily weather update; 14^th January, 2017

Today's weather;

A nice blue sky emerged this morning out of the night over Koh Samui and it looks like it's going to be a nice and warm day with a current temp at 9am of 29C

Most roads are drying up although some spots are still partially flooded or wet, however, with weather like this, it will speed up the process of drying up the roads.

All dive and snorkeling boats are in full swing again. Time to book one your tours with me.

Yesterday saw a very nice and warm day around Koh Samui on Friday the thirteenth. We had a blue sky most of the day with occasionally some clouds drifting in. It felt good to have the sun on your skin again after all the recent rain and floods. Max temp reached 32C

The forecast didn't change a lot. Today and tomorrow should be fine with lots of sunshine and possibly a small and short shower tomorrow. From Monday onward, the wind is supposed to pick up for a day or three with currently light rain predicted on Monday and Tuesday, harder rain on Wednesday  and Thursday and fading out again by Friday.  This rain will however not be torrential but more like a typical monsoon rain, short or longer showers but not torrential. Floods should not occur, besides maybe a flash flood.

Unfortunately not much sunshine is expected next week.

Spark Circus is to visit Koh Samui 20th and 21st January

The Spark Circus is to visit Koh Samui 20th and 21st January at respectively W Resort and Dr Frogs, with a big show on the 20th at W Resort, starting at 8pm.

All four scheduled shows are to raise money for the Burmese refugee children in the North, in Mae Sot, where the Spark circus will go to teach and perform.

Spark Circus is an international nonprofit whose mission it is to promote health, positive well being, and a sense of hope in children who live in disadvantaged communities and living situations. It is their belief that by using educational classes in, circus, music, and performance art they can help to alleviate stress, burden, and fear that so often traps people in a cycle of violence and poverty.

Spark Circus to visit Koh Samui 20th and 21st January

This year the circus has 10 dedicated performers and teachers from; Vietnam, Canada, Australia, Burma, UK & the US. 

Spark Circus is a non-profit dedicated to bringing hope and laughter to the lives of thousands of refugee children every year. 

Beginning January 14th, the Spark Circus team will assemble on the islands of Koh Samui and Koh Phangan to do shows and raise donations for the project in a Sparkly Circus Bonanza. Following two weeks of fundraising, the team will travel and visit schools and orphanages in Mae Sot, the refugee camp Nu Poe, and the village of Mae Ke Kong for four weeks of playshop’s and intensives.

These exercises and activities are designed to encourage creative self-discovery in disadvantaged children in war-torn countries. The process of healing these children begins with laughter, and Spark’s performers and volunteers take pride in being able to give refugee children much needed respite from their traumatic situation.

Spark Circus to visit Koh Samui 20th and 21st January

Spark Circus is a circus performance group who tries to deliver a spectacular extravaganza for children at migrant schools, refugee camps in Thailand, and villages on the Burmese side of the border, as well as, workshops and classes. They also offer classes to local teachers and other interested individuals, striving whenever possible to foster a spirit of community and oneness. It is their hope that they can bring people together and heal some of the emotional wounds the children face through the excitement of the circus arts. Koh Samui, Thailand daily weather update; 9th January, 2017

Today's weather;

Once more, it's very grey, cloudy and wet this morning over Koh Samui. Hard rain went on in intervals all night and part of this morning all around the island, but at last the wind is supposed to drop soon and the rain to seriously slow down or stop soon during this morning, with some rain being expected again during the late afternoon, a kind of last call.

A lot of flooded areas where the water receded yesterday may have flooded again but I do expect them to drain again as well today. Current temp at 7am is 26C

'Only' 38mm of rain is expected during the next 24 hours around Koh Samui. A big difference compared to last week where the amount of rain sometimes easily exceeded 100mm per day.

Currently Krabi, Koh Lipe and Koh Lanta (where I will be later this month) are seriously hit with rain, storm and floods whilst Phuket is having loads of rain as well. Slowly the weather depression is shifting from the Southern East coast to the West coast.

Yesterday saw a good day around the island, rain varied from a drizzle to light rain or no rain at times. This immediately had an affect on a lot of flooded areas, where the water receded and all around the island the roads were passable again. Last nights hard rain may have flooded a few areas again though. Max temp reached 27C

The forecast is looking real good. Today should see the last bits of rain, during the late afternoon and during the day the wind should start fading.  Tomorrow is currently predicted to be cloudy but dry and as of Wednesday the clouds should break up and possibly we can expect some sunshine. Wouldn't that be nice for a change.

The remainder of the week and the weekend shows partial cloud cover but no rain anymore. It's time we can feel that sunshine on our skin again!

All PADI specialty instructor training has been completed and an update will appear later in within a few hours I will be on the ferry back home to Koh Samui.

A sunnier Koh Samui is emerging again after a pretty harsh monsoon period with a few serious flooding problems earlier this month. This doesn't mean the monsoon is completely over yet, but we're heading in a much drier and sunnier direction, little by little and very slowly! This picture is from mid December, showing that we also had a few nice and sunny days during the monsoon period.

Yesterday saw a wet and rainy morning followed by a sunny and dry afternoon, for the third day in a row, Max temp reached 30C

Resting place of LST 713 of the Thai Royal Navy at Thong Sala on Koh Phangan, near the pier and harbor. The warship was given to the Thai government in 1957 by the United States Government under the Military Assistance Program. She went on to play a vital role in operations conducted by the Royal Thai Navy during the Vietnam War, particularly between the years of 1967 - 1972. She was eventually retired from active service on 5th June 2008 and eventually brought to Koh Phangan on 21st January in 2011. It is now used as housing of the the Royal Rama IX Memorial Museum

The forecast for the next seven days is looking good with plenty of partially clouded skies and thus also sunny skies ahead of us. Wednesday may see some rain but come Friday 29th December, the wind may be picking up with storm like conditions on the 30th and 31st and plenty of rain. Let's hope that this changes soon enough and the current nice weather patch continues into the new year.

Today's weather;

It's raining and cloudy over Koh Samui this morning and there is some rain expected today until the lat afternoon going hand in hand with a slightly stronger wind. Current temp at 7am is 26C

At Haad Yao on Koh Phangan we have cloudy skies but it's dry and at the moment it doesn't look like rain, but you never know for later during the day, maybe a short shower will pass over. Current temp at 7am is 25C

Today is the last day pf PADI Specialty Instructor training and once more we go to Sail Rock, third day in a row.

We were most of the day at Sail Rock yesterday, diving and enjoying the massive schools of fish whilst there were rain showers going over Koh Samui and Koh Phangan during the early morning. The afternoon was sunny and bright though and it was a long time since we felt the sun heating up our skin again. Max temp reached 30C

Wat Samai Kongka on Koh Phangan just past the Koh Phangan hospital, kind of on the middle road between Thong Sala and Srithanu where there are statues depicting some scene of purgatory, a version of Buddhist hell, of which I hope to post soon a new blog

The forecast remained fairly unchanged with mostly partially cloudy skies for the next seven days but be prepared to have some rain showers here and there, but also some sunshine. The monsoon season seems to be walking on it's last legs and hopefully we will have sunny days back soon.

Today's weather;

It's dry and mostly cloudy over Koh Samui this morning with a few breaks in the cloud cover and I expect it to break up a bit more and it could well turn into a fairly nice and dry day with a bit of sunshine. Current temp at 7am is 26C

Water run off at the walking street bridge in Chaweng. Still plenty of run off from hills and other kinds of water that need be taken care of. Everything is back to normal though and these are the last reminders of the recent floods Koh Samui had to endure.

At Haad Yao on Koh Phangan we also have a mostly cloudy sky but it seems we have more blue spots in the sky and here we also have a nice day in the making. Current temp at 7am is 25C

Yesterday saw a very wet morning with plenty of showers but during the afternoon the sun came back out of hiding again and we had a nice and lovely afternoon around Koh Samui and Koh Phangan. Max temp reached 28C

We encountered this baby whale shark at Sail Rock yesterday. It was about 2.5 meters long and seemed to enjoy the company of the divers and the boats and it stuck around for the whole dive day and a bit more, since divers who arrived there after we left also saw it

The forecast for the next seven days is looking good, a slight increase and possibly some rain tomorrow but after that partially clouded skies and no rain predicted until shortly before new year a few showers are expected. A lot can change weather wise in a positive way during this time frame, but this is looking good! Enjoy a sunny holiday season!

Today's weather;

It's grey, it's cloudy and it's wet over Koh Samui this morning with more rain predicted for the day ahead of us. Current temp at 7am is 25C

At Haad Yao on Koh Phangan it also grey and wet and since very early morning it has been raining here, with more to come. Current temp at 7am is 25C

The PADI IE (Instructor exam) for my candidates went very well yesterday and all three of them passed the exams successfully and are now brand new PADI Open Water Scuba Instructors! For the next three days I will be on the boat to Sail Rock, for PADI specialty instructor training.

A very dark sky is looming over Chaweng beach yesterday morning in front of the Centara Grand Beach Resort and sure enough there were plenty of rain showers during the day time, mostly during the morning, the afternoon saw less rain.

Yesterday saw a fair amount of rain coming down, mostly during the morning and with regular breaks. The afternoon was drier and the max temp reached 29C

The 7-11 in Haad Yao on Koh Phangan protects the entrance to the shop with sandbags, a very common sight during the rainy season, to keep the excessive water outside. The obligatory dog is enjoying it!

The forecast changed again and the nice weather predicted yesterday, has gone walkabout and has been replaced with a forecast more clouds and more rain until Friday. After Friday it should remain mostly cloudy but less rain is expected.

Koh Samui, Thailand daily weather update; 20^th December, 2016

Today's weather;

It's cloudy over Koh Samui this morning and on and off there are rain showers and that's most likely how it will stay all day long. The rain is not too hard but steady but there seem to be breaks in the downpour. Current temp at 9am is 26C

At Haad Yao on Koh Phangan we currently have a shower pouring down but the rain seems to come and go, this is the third shower this morning, in-between dry spells. Current temp at 9am is 25C.

This morning sees a later update because I just got back from a long morning run, 21.41km in just under two hours or a 5'35 pace, which I'm very pleased with since there are a lot of hills on the route.

The PADI IDC candidates are in the middle of their last PADI IE presentation (the instructor exam), the open water dive at Haad Yao reef.

The Namuang waterfall at Baan Namuang is at it's best, this is at good as it gets if you want to see the waterfall in it's fullest glory. A very strong and steady downfall in the water basin below the fall which is filled to the rim. The water isn't exactly clean and you can't swim in the basin right now, it would be too dangerous but it's a very spectacular view!

Yesterday saw a dry day around Koh Samui under a partially cloudy sky with the sun peeking out occasionally a few times, making it a very nice day indeed with a max temp of 31C

The forecast predicts a lot nicer weather after today's rain, partially cloudy skies with possibly a fair amount of sunshine and possibly just some rain come Thursday afternoon and Friday morning, the wind should drop as well, allowing all diving and snorkeling trios to be enjoyable. Today's weather;

It's mostly cloudy this morning over Koh Samui with a few isolated blue spots but it's dry and the wind seems to have dropped. It should stay dry today with some more clouds later during the day. Current temp at 7am is 25C

At Haad Yao on Koh Phangan we also have a cloudy sky with a few isolated blue spots. It's been dry all night and for today no rain is expected, although you never know this time of he year. It still is monsoon and a quick shower is always possible. Current temp at 7am is 25C

All courses have been finished yesterday, including the EFR Instructor course for December 2016 and today the PADI IE (Instructor Exam) is about to start within an hour in Chaloklom, the Northern part of Koh Phangan, for our three PADI IDC candidates.

Sunset yesterday on the Norther shores of Koh Samui. It was a lovely partially cloudy day with plenty of sunshine and no rain. This was near Bang Po.

Yesterday saw a nice and dry day at our North Eastern part of the island with plenty of sunshine during the morning and some more cloud formations during the afternoon. Max temp reached 31C

The forecast for the next seven days after tomorrow. Tomorrow there should be heavy cloud cover and plenty of rain, not hard, but steady. As of Wednesday it is looking very nice, partially cloudy skies and mostly dry days with possibly a few sunbeams. A dry Christmas seems to be in the making.

Koh Samui, Thailand daily weather update; 18^th December, 2016

Today's weather;

It's mostly cloudy around Koh Samui this morning but against all odds there are also big blue patches in the sky and it's dry again. Plenty of rain is predicted until around noon. Just after noon time the wind is supposed to drop as well. Current temp at 7am is 27C, a massive difference to the previous few days.

On Koh Phangan we also had almost 24 hours of non stop rain, which resulted in some roads being slightly flooded. This morning is a lot nicer though and we have the sun peeking through some mall blue spots in the mostly cloudy sky. It's dry again and that is nice. Current temp at 7am is 27C

The current December PADI IDC on Koh Phangan came to an end yesterday and today we wrap up some loose ends and complete the EFR Instructor course with the PADI IE (the instructor exams) starting tomorrow.

Yesterday saw plenty of rains and floods again around Koh Samui. After all night and all day rain, many roads flooded again although by afternoon at many places the water receded, despite the non stop rain. The rain wasn't torrential but steady. Many places around the island suffered this time from power cuts and ere all day long without electricity.

Yesterday saw a flashback to the first December week, with plenty of rain, all night and all day long which resulted in floods all over the island again. It looked really bad during the morning but in the afternoon many flooded places cleared up again and some 'hot spots', like in front of Big C, the water surprisingly receded, despite the constant amount of rain coming down. Max temp reached only 26C

In my room on Koh Phangan I had to wrap a towel around my feet to get them warm!

The forecast is not looking too bad. There should be plenty of rain this morning and although it's cloudy, the sun is shining through some blue holes in the cloudy sky. Today the wind should start dropping again during the afternoon and tomorrow and especially Tuesday should see rain again. From there on it seems very likely according to the forecast that the clouds will go away and we may have sunny moments again with little to no rain on most days. At the moment, Christmas looks dry and the sun may be out.
