Food on Wheels; Indonesian snack time!

Whilst in Indonesia, what better time to show some variations on the Food on Wheels series? During my current stay I found some samples of new variations on the same old theme!

Gili Trawangan, Indonesia

Deep fried processed meat on Gili Trawangan in Indonesia

Above is a push cart with processed deep fried meat balls. The push carts are not found that much more in Thailand, there it's almost exclusively motorbikes that carry around the food goodies.

Gili Trawangan, Indonesia

Goreng in Baha Indonesia means 'deep fried'

It makes for some nice and new pictures with a different slant on the usual standard pictures. It's a nice change to see something different.

The more people are around in this part of the world, the more likely food will be there! Food on Wheels! This morning it was packed on the back at around 6am and plenty of food options available, just for your convenience.

Sweet breakfast

This motorbike is pretty unusual with it's glass display. You don't want to see that in crash!

Mie (noodles) Ayam (chicken) bakso (soup) at Sanur beach in Bali, Indonesia

Here's a standard Indonesian meal, the 'bakso' or soup. This one is with chicken. Tasty and cheap!

Stay tuned, the next post in this series will be next month and right now I have no idea what it will be about. That's the nice thing in South East Asia, there's always something new and surprising around the corner!

Today is the last day of the PADI IE and a report will follow later on my dive blog.

Yesterday evening saw a stunning sunset around the Gili islands (aka Gili Indah), we caught it on our way back from Gili Trawangan (aka Gili Tralala) to Gili Air after a successful day at the PADI IE

Yesterday saw a nice and warm day around Koh Samui with a max temp of around 30C

The forecast is looking good with more blue and sunny skies over the next 7 days but there will be some good breeze, starting to pick up later today.

Food on Wheels; Night market or pasar malem on Gili Trawangan in Indonesia

Since I'm currently on Gili Air in Indonesia, it makes sense to have this month edition of the Food on Wheels series about an Indonesian variation on this theme.

Bakso or soup and sateh, the bakso cart has the typical Indonesian shape for a food on wheels cart but the sateh bbq is an add on!

Earlier this week we had dinner on Gili Trawangan, a near by island, an there was a night market or in Bahasa Indonesia a 'pasar melam'. Sure enough there were a few samples of the local food on wheel variation and this post has the result.

Pancakes

It was interesting to watch the going on's at the night market and it was busy with both locals and tourists. The food looked good and yummy! Something to check out next time you're Indonesia! Just like in Thailand, there are night markets in every small town and village!

Local fish and more sateh

My fave 'sateh' is the goat or 'kambing', hard to find on the islands here but more widely available on the mainland.

In general, it just shows that all around South East Asia, food can be found on almost every street corner and it tastes great, well worth trying out.
A last tip, if many locals eat there, it means the food is good and there's a high turnover of food so you will get fresh food!

Enjoy!!!

Koh Samui, Thailand daily weather update; 29th October, 2013

Today's weather;

Koh Samui has a nice morning with plenty of blue in the sky, the sun being out and just a few clouds hanging around. Current temp at 6.30am is 25C

On Gili Air in Indonesia, the current PADI IDC is on it's last day with the PADI IE starting tomorrow. The weather seems to follow it's current pattern, a sunny morning is ours, most likely followed by by some clouds and possibly some rain around 2pm which in turn is followed by partly cloudy and sunny skies again! Current temp at 7.30 local time is 26C

Gili Trawangan night market

A few days ago we took one of 'Oceans 5' boats to have dinner on Gili Trawangan and we stumbled over the night market or 'pasar', where these sweets were for sale

Yesterday saw rain during most of the day around Samui. Max temp reached 27C

Around Gili Air it was typical, sunshine in the morning, some clouds and a few drops of rain between 2pm and 4pm and nice and sunny afterwards with a clear and starry night.

The forecast shows us possibly a bit of rain in the early morning around Samui but after that it really should clear up and remain partly cloudy to sunny for the next 6 days.
The rainy season is lurking around the corner however, as this fairly wet October showed us already.
