Goodbye to February 2018

Goodbye to February 2018

Only 28 days but they're gone and it's time to say 'Goodbye to February 2018'.
Our island enjoyed another lovely February, one of the best month in the year to actually be on Koh Samui, or to visit.
The temperatures are nice and agreeable, it doesn't get too hot and there's only a few showers throughout the month. Near to perfect!
This month was a school sample, most days were partially cloudy but with plenty of sunshine. There were only six days with some tropical showers and the maximum temperature didn't go over 33C and that was just one day. All other days the temperatures ranged between 29 and 31C Most days did feel warmer though.
Today is another great day in the making, the last day of this month, with a current temperature of 25.9C at 7am and a partially clouded sky. There a few more clouds over the ocean but over Samui it might clear up quickly once the sun starts to warm up.

Goodbye to February 2018

Goodbye to February 2018; Anybody up for some Southern curries at the Plai Laem market? Nice and spicy?

It was a good month for me as well, I got to spend most of it at home. When I left for work, to Khao Lak, I got to run two 10 km races within 7 hours, a night run in Phuket town and the next day a run at the Siriroj Hospital, near Central Festival on Phuket. Partially running through the same Phuket town roads.
The PADI IDC on Khao Lak just finished yesterday and I will stay a few more days during the exams for my students and for some more diving. A day trip to the Similan islands is on the menu!

Goodbye to February 2018

Goodbye to February 2018; Shoot out at Chaweng beach between local Thai people, one person died and one is in ICU.

The biggest and most shocking news this month must have happened yesterday, with a gun shoot out on the middle of Chaweng beach. One person died, the son of a well known local family and one person, a family member of another well known family, is in ICU.
To say that this must have been a shock to the unsuspecting tourists who were at the beach at that moment, is probably an understatement.
There will be a lot of talk about that in the coming weeks.

That's a wrap up for this month though, hope you enjoyed it when you were here. If you plan to visit, March will be another lovely month around Samui!

Please do 'like' my Koh Samui blog Facebook page and enjoy the beaches around the island or in front of your hotel or resort and get some well deserved rest and a break. If you're done resting or need something else to do, there's plenty of things on offer on and around Koh Samui, you can go snorkeling or diving or take a dive course. You can also enjoy some of the trips I recommend, like a half day gourmet lunch and snorkeling trip at the Southern part of Koh Samui or a photography trip where you get to see the most photo genetic spots on the island or go for a drinks tasting tour if you like a tipple or two.

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 19th February –25th February 2018

Sunday morning and for a change without a run since I will be diving within a few hours but still time to look at the Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 19th February –25th February 2018.
It's partly cloudy around Koh Samui with big patches of blue sky, a current temperature of 28.2C at 8.15am. Better get ready for a really warm and steaming day! Sun lotion should be within hand reach.

Right now I'm in Khao Lak since last Sunday and another week to go at least, for the current PADI IDC program here. It's also sunny and promises to be a hot day, although right now it's still a cool 23C in the early morning. The whole IDC group is getting ready to go out and complete their open water training dives!

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 19th February –25th February 2018; Nathon and Koh Samui are slowly disappearing in the distance as seen from the Seatran ferry, last week. On my way to Khao Lak for the current PADI IDC here.

Last week saw a nice and warm week around Koh Samui shores with mostly partially cloudy skies and plenty of blue mixed in. There were some tropical showers as well and the average maximum temperature was 31C, although a lot of times it felt a lot warmer.

The forecast for next week, the last couple of days of February and the start of March. Very similar weather is expected and forecast. More partially clouded skies but plenty of blue and sunshine with an occasional shower. Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 12th February –18th February 2018

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 12th February –18th February 2018

Sunday morning, a busy running weekend on Phuket being done and dusted and time for the Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 12th February –18th February 2018.
On Koh Samui we have a hazy morning with a few clouds in the sky but it looks like we will have another warm day today. Current temp at 9.30am is 28C although it does feel slightly warmer already.

Yesterday I travelled to Phuket for a busy weekend of running, yesterday evening I ran the Phuket night run over 10.7km in Phuket town and managed to place second in my age group of 55-59 years old.
This morning, after just a seven hour break, I ran another 10.45km race at the Siriroj Hospital, near Central Festival and the Phuket hyperbaric chamber. This morning my legs felt a little bit fatigued and I placed ninth in the 50-59 years old age group.

The weather on Phuket is nice, a blue sky is shaping up and it might get very warm here, later during the day. Current temperature at 9.30am is 27C and it does feel warmer.

Today I will travel to Khao Lak, where I will start a PADI IDC tomorrow morning.

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 12th February –18th February 2018; At Wat Plai Laem this building is still under construction, but there's steady progress. It is the new place where the communal kitchen will be positioned and managed. When a relative of a local family becomes monk or passes away or any other significant Buddhist celebration, here is where the local families will cook food for people paying their respect or visiting the ceremony.

Last week saw a lovely February week reign over Koh Samui. Some light train on Tuesday but other than that, it was lovely and warm with plenty of sunshine. Maximum temperatures ranged from 29C on Tuesday to 33C on Friday.

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 12th February –18th February 2018

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 12th February –18th February 2018; More construction, this time from Phuket. The Chalong circle or roundabout is under construction. A tunnel is being build and it may affect traffic for two to three years. At certain times of the day, definitely a place to avoid, due to long traffic jams and waiting times.

The forecast for next week is looking good, although it may not be as nice as last week. A few thunderstorms throughout the week can be expected with some light rain. The rain periods should short but possibly hard! Typical tropical showers with the wind picking up possibly over next weekend.
There's still plenty of sunshine to be enjoyed during next week, so don't despair. Sun lotion may be needed!

Sunday morning and time for the Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 28th January – 4th February 2018.During the Sunday morning long run, it was fairly cloudy, with just a few blue spots among the clouds, but the sun is creeping out a bit more at this very moment, around 9am. Current temperature is 28C. However, I won't be surprised if there will be a few showers throughout the day today and it will become warmer throughout the day.
There was a fair bit of wind this morning though.

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 28th January – 4th February 2018

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 28th January – 4th February 2018; One of the fire trucks on Koh Samui, spotted in Chaweng last week As far as I know, they're located at the airport and part of the airport fire fighting crew. Not too many times you get to see one of them around the island.

Last week saw a lovely end of January, with sunny skies, however the start of February saw each day having a few showers. Maximum temperatures ranged from 30 to 32C, so not too much variation.

The forecast for next week is predicts sunnier skies again with an odd chance of a shower. The lovely February weather is warming up.
