Koh Samui, Thailand daily weather update; 23rd November, 2016

Today's weather;

It's rather cloudy, grey-ish and wet around Koh Samui this morning. It either may have had rained or there is some rain, like at our corner of the island right now. It's supposed to remain cloudy for the rest of the day but without too much rain. Current temp at 7am is 27C

At Kata on Phuket, we have a lightly clouded sky, all covered in clouds but a thin layer and I expect the sun to break through soon and burn most of the cloud layers away, although there may also be some rain during the day, just like yesterday. Current temp at 7am is 27C

Talking about yesterday, the PADI IDC Staff course for November - December started yesterday and today the PADI IDC will kick off.

Looking into Soi Green Mango, where the nightlife of Chaweng partially takes places, with various girlie bars and discos. It seems to be a dwindling affair and doesn't seem to be as busy as it used to be, more and more bars are disapearing but I hardly ever frequent these places anymore and only see them occasionally during the daytime. Near the Reggae Pub, or rather the street leading to the Reggae Pub is another nightlife area of Chaweng where you can find plenty of the so called girlie bars.

Yesterday saw a mostly cloudy day around Koh Samui with some occasional showers at different parts of the island. Max temp reached nonetheless 32C

Patak road in Kata on Phuket in the early morning with a Baht bus parked by the side of the road. This particular bus connect Phuket town via Kata to Karon and can be found on many different places in the busier parts of Phuket, covering and driving different routes.

The forecast for the next ten days predicts a cloudy to partially cloudy sky with a good posibility of the monsoon make it's grand entrance after the weekend when as of Tuesday the clouds may become thicker and greyer, more rain is expected and the wind is supposed to pick up as well. Enjoy the last week of good November weather, it looks like it's about to change soon.

Koh Samui, Thailand daily weather update; 30th September, 2016

Today's weather;

It's partially cloudy over Koh Samui this morning with the sun trying very hard to break through and the sun may be successful once it heats up a bit more. There is also a fair bit of wind blowing today and I expect it to remain dry. Current temp at 7am is 27C

At Kata on Phuket we just had a very short but very hard shower but the rain clouds are moving on again and we actually have some blue spots and meager sunshine again at times. Current temp at 7am is 27.4C

Koh Samui, Thailand daily weather update; 30th September, 2016

Sounds Club in Chaweng, near the Green Mango, one of the three main night clubs in Chaweng, very near to each other, Sounds, Green Mango and Solo Bar. Have you been to either one of them yet?

Yesterday saw a fairly sunny and warm day on Koh Samui except for the late afternoon when there was a rain shower moving over the island. Max temp reached 33C

Koh Samui, Thailand daily weather update; 30th September, 2016

At Karon on Phuket, the beach road nearest to Kata, where you can find this football stadium, the building on the right is the long side and main entrance, but it has shops in it, mostly massage shops. The stadium is rather old and not very well maintained and there must be other, better maintained stadiums where Phuket's main football team plays, but I still need to find out where that stadium is

The forecast for Koh Samui for the next ten days looks good, the wind is decreasing in strength but is not completely disappearing and the sun should break through most days with a very rare tropical shower on odd days being an option.

Koh Samui, Thailand daily weather update; 13th June, 2016

Today's weather;

Another nice blue sky is shaping over Koh Samui this morning and with a very mild breeze, I expect it to become a very sunny and hot day again. Current temp at 7am is 30C

Koh Samui, Thailand daily weather update; 13th June, 2016

Next to the Hard Rock cafe in Chaweng is this hole in the ground under construction which is going to be a brand new Hooters off shoot

Yesterday saw once more a blue sky and a very hot day, in my opinion more hot than during the heat wave last month and in April. By 6pm though there was a very hard shower in the Chaweng area but no rain or just a light drizzle in some other parts of the island. Max temp reached 36C

The forecast predicts a fairly cloud sky to blue skies for the next ten days with possibly some heavy clouds and rain come Saturday.

Koh Samui, Thailand daily weather update; 7th June, 2016

Today's weather;

Like most recent days, the mornings over Koh Samui start out with a hazy cloud cover and once the sun starts to heat up shortly after 7am, it burns most fo the clouds away and it turns into very blue skies and it's hot. Current temp at 8am is 31C

Koh Samui, Thailand daily weather update; 7th June, 2016

The newly opened Hard Rock Cafe and shop in Chaweng. First reactions I saw mentioned overpriced food that can be had cheaper and better at other places. Do you agree?

Yesterday saw a nice blue sky almost all day long, except during the early morning and it was hot. Max temp reached 35C

The forecast for the next ten days didn't change much, mostly partially clouded skies with a nice wind at times and an occasional tropical shower.

Koh Samui in the 8-tees

Koh Samui in the 9-tees

Here are some pictures by Dave Carlo from Koh Samui in the 9-tees, around 1994, so all copyright belongs to him! A nice step back in time.
Koh Samui in the 9-tees

Chaweng beach road during a rainy day, when the road wasn't paved yet.

Koh Samui in the 9-tees

Such a pier brings back memories, although I didn't arrive until the late 9-tees on the island. It looks like the Fisherman's Village pier, maybe, possibly?

Who's been long enough to remember Santa Fe in Chaweng, a very popular night spot for the local Thai young folk that eventually got closed down because of the violence.

Koh Samui in the 9-tees

Samui airport with all of it's early charms, parking was a nightmare though!

Big Buddha, the road got just paved a year or two ago

These kind pf pictures seem to be popular, so I hope you enjoy this lot as much as I do!

If you have any old Samui style pictures, please share hem with me, thanks in advance!

Welcome to October 2015

It's the first day of a new month and time to welcome to October 2015 on the Koh Samui info and weather blog.

The weather during October can swing both ways, the rainy season is due next month in November, so towards the end of this month it may start to get wet but last year the beginning of October was already fairly wet.
The first couple of days look promising though, with plenty of blue skies and sunshine being predicted during cooler days, it doesn't get as hot anymore, which I actually enjoy.

Welcome to October 2015

A rather surprising addition to Chaweng's nightlife; Hard Rock Cafe (in December this year) and Hooters (next year) are coming to Samui soon

There are a few activities and events during this month as well, for starters the 2nd Mad Hatter run at Phru Chaweng come 11th October. Later this month there will also be the yearly Rua Chak Phra event which ic well worth checking if you find yourself on Koh Samui during that time frame.

Curfew lifted on Koh Samui

Good news ofr Samui; The curfew installed by the current military junta has been lifted since yesterday for Koh Samui and Surat Thani and for two other locations, Phuket and Chonburi or better known; Pattaya.
The reason behind it was to ease the atmosphere at these locations and reduce the fallout on the local economy.

The Thai Hotels Association (THA) is asking Military Junta to create recovery plans to restore confidence from international markets ahead of high season as seen very slow new booking for October and January.

Reggae Pub 24th Anniversary

Reggae Pub 24th Anniversary

This coming Sunday, 12th February 2012, the Reggae Pub in Chaweng will celebrate it's 24th anniversary. A great achievement.

Poster can be found all over the island, announcing the event

From their website;

"Reggae Pub is the oldest and one of the biggest clubs on Samui. In the beginning the Reggae Pub was just a small bar on Chaweng Beach. Established in 1988 with 15 seats and a bar, Reggae Pub grew to a big nightclub later. With its relocation to the lake it expanded to a gigantic fun pub. In 1995 it burnt down, by tourist misbehavior and was completely rebuilt into the unique architectural wooden building that blended the Reggae style with the traditional Thai style to the modern classical decoration. It gives the place the special atmosphere it has."

I've spent a few nights in the Reggae Pub over the years, although recently my visits dwindled, initially because the prices started to become ridiculous, they were one of the first bars to charge 100.-THB for a beer, it must be near 120.-THB or more now and the second reason is that I just don't participate in Samui's nightlife that much anymore.

Good luck to them though, they're a real Samui institution and next year should see a massive party
