Koh Samui, Thailand daily weather update; 19th April, 2011

Today's weather;

More blue skies and another day waiting out there for us on Koh Samui today. No wind again so more heat will be ours! Current temp at 7am is 26.8C
The weather forecasts talk about cloudy skies but a cloud or two in a blue sky doesn't justify the classifier 'cloudy sky' in my book!

Don't forget that Samui is in the tropics, this snake was sitting at the side of the exit to Choengmon beach the other day. Will try to find out what kind of snake it is, it was over a meter long when fully stretched! Looks like this might be a Checkered Keelback or งูลายสอใหญ๋ (ngu lai so yai, ngu daeng hae) although some other experts tend to prefer either the Malayan Racer or the Copperheaded racer, a tight race indeed and all three of them are not dangerous or poisonous

Yesterday saw a windless day, hence it was hot, just like April should be and the max temp reached 31.7C

Before we forget, this years Songkran death toll stopped at 271 this year over the 7 day 'dangerous' period, less than last year.

Yesterday's Songkran death toll stats

Here's a very good article by Pichai Chuensuksawadi, Editor-in-Chief at the Bangkok Post, about the out of control interest for three girls dancing topless on Silom Road during this year's Songkran.

Hi Petra,

Everything changes in 20 years!
For diving, Koh Tao is cheaper but if you would like to stay on Samui, please let me know and I can sort you out for your dive needs!

Hi Sylvia,

If you can't find any useful information on either Koh Samui or Koh Phangan I can only conclude that you are or were looking in the wrong places, but you did find my blog.

Please have a look around in my blog, besides daily weather updates, there's plenty of information on things to do and see on Koh Samui and also bits and pieces about Koh Phangan.

Is it worthwhile visiting? If you're looking for a relaxed tropical island with some nice beaches, yes, definitely worthwhile!

Hi Camille,
I have found you're weather blog on the net and have been reading it for
the past few days as I have just booked a holiday for Thailand but am very
confused about which Island to stay at. I haven't booked my internal
flights from Bangkok yet as I don't have a clue, the original plan was to
go to Koh Samui but heared about the floods so am a bit sceptical in
booking this. I need to book internal flights and hotels ASAP. Basically my
husband and I want the hottest island as we intend to just chill in the
sun, nice beaches, abit of exploring, (we dont drink alcohol so not looking
for bars really) halal food would be great though as we are muslim.

I would be so very grateful if you could recommend somewhere for us (I know
you cant predict the weather but you know alot more than us) P.s we will
land in Bangkok on the 3rd of May and stay there for one night. So are
looking to stay in Island from 3rd till 8/9th of May.

Many many thanks in advance

Samina

Hi Samina,

Thanks for getting in touch. Well, you found my Samui blog and if you read carefully you can see that Samui is completely back to normal and all is just fine. The floods have long gone!
Samui is also enjoying some grand weather for over 10 days now, with daily blue skies and hot weather and there's halal food available pretty much everywhere, most of Southern Thailand has plenty of muslim people and accordingly also plenty of muslim restaurants.

Phuket is also enjoying good weather right now but I would opt for Samui and my recommendation is Choengmon beach, have a look at my blog and search 'Choengmon' and have a look at my Samui hotel recommendations blog and once more look for Choengmon!

Hope his helps for now.
