Today's weather;
Both Samui and Koh Lanta where I currently am, are suffering from the impact of a heavy storm. At 5.30am I woke up from the heavy wind gusts blasting over, which lasted for about half an hour and both islands had power cuts for extended times.
Current temp at 7am on both islands is around 25C.
The whole South of Thailand has been battered and flooded but Songkla and Hat Yai are the cities that really have been hit the worst.
The forecast for Samui shows rain pretty much all day long until Sunday and for Koh Lanta things should start to quiet down as of tomorrow.

Yesterday saw all day long rain on Lanta and on Samui the rain started in the afternoon. Max temp reached 28C on both islands with 83mm of rain on Samui and 65mm on Lanta but almost 300mm in Pattalang and 200mm in Hat Yai!

Nightmare - our plane was diverted back to Bangkok from Samui because of the storm...is there any point us trying to get another flight tomorrow or is the weather still awful?

The strong wind should subside tomorrow although the rain will be there for another 3 or 4 days before things seem to start easing up. It’s very likely that planes will resume flying to Samui as of tomorrow again.
Sorry to hear about your problems, hopefully you can enjoy Bangkok nonetheless
Hi Camille, may I start by saying how interesting and useful I have found
your blog which I came across whilst looking for a weather forecast for Koh
Samui! We are due to travel out to Bangkok on 16th Nov for 2 nights
followed by a 2 week stay at the the Bo Phut Resort and Spa on Koh Samui.
I always do lots of research on the places we stay and was horrified last
week when someone in passing mentioned it was the rainy season! Whilst I
have no one to blame but myself, none of the brochures mention this and
only publish the annual termperatures. I really do not have any issues
with some rain but I am really worried that we are going to spend two full
weeks in the rain! Is there anything you can say to put my mind at rest?
Any comments would be much appreciated, thanks, Jane.

Hi Camille, thank you for your response. I have had a look over some previous
years blogs and it would appear that the rain comes all at once either in
October or November but not really both. I will keep reading your blogs
and all we can do is prey the worst of it is over by the time we arrive!

My daughter could not get back to Koh Samui this morning via the ferry and no flights were leaving Krabi for Koh Samui. She went to friends in Phi Phi. Her flight out of Koh Samui for Bangkok is on Friday. Do you think that it would be worthwhile flying her from Krabi to Koh Samui to collect her luggage, which means a drive from the airport, and fly out on Friday as planned?.

Hi Jenn,
Right now it looks like there will still be some wind today and lots of rain but than slowly both wind and rain will subside and things should be back to normal. I would assume that by tomorrow all flights are back on track.

I have been reading that Thailand has been hit by torrential rain and it is impossible to travel there, is it true??

Hi,
Right now all of Thailand has been hit by flooding, some areas worse than others. By the time that you schedule to visit Thailand, I can only hope that everything is back to 'normal' again. As far as I know, during the rainy season we only experience one time a real bad situation and the rest of the season is 'within' control, I can only hope that it will be like that for everybody involved.
Late November is too far away say anything sensible about right now but the current forecast is that by the weekend the weather is good again on Samui, no wind and rain anymore and possibly sunshine.
