2nd December, 2008

Today's weather;

It's cloudy but dry. Current temp at 7 am is 26.3C.

Yesterday was a dry day and in the afternoon the sun even broke through and we had a real blue sky again, see the picture above, taken at World Resort, where I'm conducting an IDC.
Max temp reached 28.5C.

In Bangkok it's same ol' same ol' and it grew a bit more violent; One died and about over 20 injured by a bomb explosion at Don Mueng, this morning Thai TV reported that a second victim succumbed to her injuries. Very sad.

PAD to quit Government House after three months of occupation, the protesters are urged to move to the two airports.

Battle moves to Court; All eyes will today focus on the annual military parade at the Royal Plaza and on the Constitution Court, which would be hearing closing statements of the three political parties accused of having committed electoral fraud.

In the meantime, 240,000 tourists are stranded in Thailand: tourism minister and more and more planes are send to Thailand to relieve the amount of stranded tourists by taking them home.

Hi, I wonder if you could help me. I have planned to visit Koh samui on 7/12/08, but I am concerned about the situation in Bangkok. Can you please tell me what is the situation in Koh samui? Is it safe? Are there any riots there? If it is not safe, I might delay my trip there. I appreciate your help.

Thank you.

Hi,

Samui is very quiet and definitely no riots or anything remotely resembling it. All the riots and demonstrations are happening in Bangkok. Samui laso has a privately owned airport, so it's very unlikely that this airport will be occupied by protesters.

In my opinion, no reason to delay your trip to Samui.

Hello Camille,
I came across your blog when I googled Samui weather as I will be traveling there next week. I read on your blog that you hired a minivan to take your parents from Bangkok to Samui. I am supposed to fly to Samui from Bangkok but am looking at overland options. Do you still happen to have the name of the minivan company your parents used as well as the rate? Many thanks for your help.

Kind regards,
Anne

Hi Anne,

Possibly by next week the airports could not only be open but also in use again.
If required, yes, I do have the name and number of the person who brought them to Samui and the price for you.

Hi Camille,

I like your site, very cool. My girlfriend and I are on our way to Thailand, Samui incl. on the 13th. I've had to change our flight from Bangkok to KL for obvious reasons. Just 2 things, do you think things will be safe on Tao, Samui etc. and secondly. We now need to get from KL to Samui on the 14th. Whats the best way to do this? Fly from KL to Krabi and then bus/boat? oR what do you reckon? Cheers, Petrie

Hi Petrie,

Samui and Koh Tao are very safe. No riots, no demonstrations, all that is happening in Bangkok, not on Samui and the surrounding islands.
The best way from KL to Samui is to fly, I think that Bangkok Airways has flights and possibly Firefly

Hi Camille,

I came across your blog and was wondering if in your opinion it will be ok to travel to Koh Samui for the last 2 weeks of December due to the political situation in Bangkok?

Regards,
Alan

Hi Alan,

At this moment it looks only better by the hour for Thailand, the airports are about to open again, although it will eb a few days before they're ready to handle passengers. Samui is very relaxed and no riots have been here nor demonstrations!

Hope you will enjoy your stay here!
