Recent stormy days over Koh Samui

The last couple of days has been frequently hit with short bursts of storms that are seemingly getting stronger each time and are starting to manage to do some damage.

Over last weekend, when we were on the mainland in Surat Thani, we were welcomed home by a felled tree on the opposite side of the road, as this picture from Tuesday shows.

Yesterday saw another big storm moving over the island, around 2pm. This morning I already posted a picture of a toppled durian tree blocking a road in Hua Thanon.
In the general area there were also lots of coconut tree leaves on the road and branches of other trees. It looked really messy at places.

The 'coup de grace' was however the tree that toppled in Choengmon, as pictured above. This tree fell on top of electricity cables and caused a 4 hour power cut in our part of the island, covering Choengmon, Plai Laem and Bang Rak.

The PEA out in force, working to solve the Choengmon problem

The PEA (Provincial Electrical Authority) did a good job however and fixed the problem as fast as they could. They came out with a big truck and workers, who did a great job fixing the problem as fast as they could.

There are still a few stormy days ahead of us but by Tuesday things should slowly start to return to normal.
