Koh Samui, Thailand daily weather update; 5th November, 2010

Today's weather;

Samui is doing a lot better today. This morning has some strong wind but no rain and all night there was electricity. The forecast for today is still a bit of rain and than a few days with hardly any rain and actually some sunshine. Time to do laundry! Current temp at 7am is 27.3C

For everybody planning to travel to Samui in the near future; It's not an all clear yet, the aftermath of this storm will require a lot of cleaning up and some roads will need to be fixed but right now most important thing is to keep an eye out on a depression that's forming over Vietnam and Cambodia and hope it's not coming Thailand's way! Things are easing up though for right now although more rain is predicted early next week.

Koh Lanta, where I'm about to finish an IDC, two more days to go, including today, has overcast and right now it doesn't look like we'll have a lot of sunshine here today. Current temp at 7am is 24.8C

Yesterday saw massive improvements around Samui, a lot of the flooding receded, most shops are open again although some shells are emptying out quickly, ATM's were working again and the airport was in full swing, trying to get to grips with the backlog of passengers. Very important to many people was that their electricity was back on again and that the rain stopped pouring down like it did the previous days. max temp reached 27.2C

Koh Lanta had a nice and sunny day. Max temp reached around 31C

Dear Camille,

I hope u r doing fine, we as a family are planning to arrive to Samui in Saturday 13 November, and we will be staying at the Centara Grand on Chaweng.
This is not our first time in Samui, but this time we are joined by my parents and my sisters and their families and we were looking forward to enjoy the beautiful weather and the facilities and safari trips.

Honestly, I would much appreciate your advice as I can still cancel or postpone the trip to the new year break, rather than coming now and spending it in our hotel room.

We r staying from 13 to 20 November.
Hoping to hear from you soon,
Best Regards
Najib

Hi Najib,

Although things are easing up, there seems to be a lot of rain over the next week so if you can postpone until the new year break, I think conditions will be absolutely favorable.

Good luck.

Hallo Camille,

we will come to KoSamui tomorrow an stay at Maenam Beach / Resort for 2 1/2 weeks. What do you think about the Monsoon? Do you think it's o.k. to leave Germany and stay on your Island at the moment? It's our first time in Thailand, we can't change our holidays an we don't know what we shall do.

Thank's for your Informations.

Yours Martina

Hi Martina,

Right now things are easing up on Samui and the hard rain and storms seem to have finished. There will still be rain though in the coming week, it’s rainy season after all and that’s pretty normal and standard however I don’t expect it to be as unusual and extreme as it was during the last few days.

Hope this helps for now.

Hi Camille, I'm visiting Koh Phangan on the 19th November - what's the situation on that island?
Kind Regards
Ian

Hi Ian,

Koh Phangan has a very similar weather pattern to Koh Samui, the islands are separated by only a narrow channel.

Hi camille, thanks for the reply.
I'm really hoping the weather improves by the time we arrive on the 19th!
I assume I can expect some rain - just not the amount you have had recently!?

Hi Ian,

You're absolutely right, some rain can be expected but not in the unusual ferocity as the last couple of days.
