Wat Plai Laem, Royally sponsored cremation ceremony of Prakru Suntinonthakhun, 15th February 2011

Upon returning form the Philippines, there's a big event about to happen on our local Temple or Wat around the corner at Plai Laem.

The Royally sponsored cremation ceremony of Prakru Suntinonthakhun is about to take place tomorrow, 15th February 2011. All local powers that be and wanna be will attend and a few mainlanders will be there as well. Prakru Suntinonthakhun has been around since I can remember back upon arriving on Samui some 12 years ago and he passed away last year. Tradition has it that with many hi so or 'famous' Thai people, their bodies will be burned after a year of passing away, with a form of balsaming the body and keeping it refrigerated.

A complete shrine was erected and it looks well impressive.

Tomorrow is going to be a busy day at the temple and I will report back about the ongoings of this event. It wouldn't have been a Thai event if there wasn't a temple fair at the same, I will report about this as well in a later post, so stay tuned for some insightful pictures of local Thai Temple life.
