27th June, 2010

Today's weather;

It's cloudy and it looks wet outside with a current temp of 26C at 7am.

Yesterday saw a very hot day, not necessarily with a lot of sunshine though. Max temp reached 34.7C.

Last night I started watching the Uruguay vs South Korean game but decided to get some sleep during half time, around 9.45 local time. Around 10am or shortly after , a storm developed with thunder and lighting and strong winds and lots of rain! Around the same time, two speedboats collided trafficking people to/from the full moon party in the Bang Rak area. Over 30 ambulances and lots of police and bystanders came out and apparently around 30 people have been rescued sofar (last report last night). If the boats were full, another 40 or so are unaccounted for. I'm sure there will be a death toll on this accident (unconfirmed reports mention up to 11 as of last night), due to the low viz at the time being and people being intoxicated when they hit the water. I'm sure there's more to follow on this story.

It's the second time a speedboat accident happens during a Full Moon Party, the other taking 16 lives on 25th January, 2005. At least this time around all passengers being fished out of the water and arriving at land, were wearing life jackets.

An update on the accident by the Nation reveals that 39 people were rescued and two are still missing and that the accident occurred around 11.45pm on route to Koh Phangan.

For the record, I slept through everything, the storm, the thunder and all ambulances possibly passing by our house, no doubt with screaming sirens
