5th June, 2010

Today's weather;

Back on Samui again and it's good to be back!

Samui has a nice blue sky with some small clouds scattered around it but with bigger clouds looming out over the ocean. Current temp at 7am is 28C.

Yesterday saw a warm and hot day in both Pattaya and Koh Samui. Max temp reached 35.3C.

Coming back was an interesting experience when it came down to landing on Samui airport. With last years crash still fresh on my mind, we first circled around for 15 minutes due to strong winds and our first landing attempt was aborted due to strong side winds, my first aborted landing attempt and a wise decision by the pilot in my humble opinion, since the plane was rocking a bit.
The second attempt succeeded however and a good 50 minutes later than scheduled it was home sweet home again.

Hi There, please can you share your expertise on the weather in Krabi END June/ early JUL, trying to decided between Krabi and Koh Samui, think the weather will be the deciding factor, thanks for your time

Hi Adele,

Krabi has a rainy season on their hands right now and the likelihood of rain os exponentially a lot more likely in Krabi than Samui.

You may find great weather in Krabi but it's more likely to have a bit of rain though.

You can always decide upon arrival where to go, check the local weather predictions and make a decision based on that.

Krabi will have good deals either way since they will have low season prices and Samui will hoepfully be starting to gear up for a very welcome busier season.

Hope this helps.

Hi Camille

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply.

Travelling from SA we have to pre-book in order to get better deals, although Krabi has huge appeal I am concerned that we will have too much rain and rough seas therefore I am going with my original plan o Samui.
I am travelling with my partner and 17 year old daughter do you have any recommendations, we don't want to be in the busy touristy areas but at the same time don't want to be isolated with a teen, so ideally looking for the best of both worlds.

Thanks again, appreciate your advise.

Kindest regards

Adele

Hi Adele,

Samui will most likely be the better choice regarding the weather during that period. Although there may be an occasional shower, it's one of the tropical variation and should be of a short duration in contrast to Krabi that if it gets going there, it may be full on rain all the time. It's difficult to predict though nowadays ;-)

My favorite beach is Choengmon and it has some good hotel deals, especially ; the Choengmon Beach hotel spa or if you have a bigger budget the Imperial Boat House

Choengmon is also not too far away from Chaweng. Another option may be Lamai

Hope you can make a choice, I know how difficult it is from a distance!

Hope this helps though!

Hi Camille

Thanks so much appreciate your assistance, I will let you know when we get sorted!
I have been told its very easy to hire a car for the day in that I should only exchange money once I arrive in Thailand. If you think of anything else that I should know, please feel free to share, as you can see we are trying to escape from SA during the world cup!

Kindest regards

Adele

Hi Adele,

Renting is very easy indeed, you can most likely arrange this through your resort or any travel agent near your hotel. The latter may be cheaper.
Exchange rates may be better in Thailand although I just had a friend visiting from Dubai and he got a better rate in Dubai, which is rather unusual.

I would recommend checking my blog for more info and for things to do whilst here. I wish I could swap with you so I could be at the World Cup!!!

Hope you enjoy your stay here and by all means, let me know if I can be of any further help.
