15th November, 2008

Today's weather;

Believe it or not, it's beautifully sunny this morning! There are some cloud formations floating around, but it looks like the next couple of days are going to be nice, before rain hits us again later this week. Current temp at 7 am is 26C.

Yesterday was a dry day with some occasional sun beams. Max temp reached 29.5C.

Thailand is since yesterday in mourning for three days because of the Royal Funeral of HRH Princess Galyani Vadhana today.

Other breaking news, so far only mentioned on Thai TV and not even in the papers yet, is that supposedly Thaksin's wife has divorced him. The problems seem to be adding up for him.
Update; Here's a link to the Nations article about the divorce; Thaksin and Pojaman end their marriage

Dear Camille,

I am enjoying reading your blog. However it is making me a bit nervous. I am booked to come to koh samui on the 20th november for a week. I heard from one of my friends currently travelling around thailand that koh samui is flooded and should be avoided. Is this true? Do you think we would change our plans?

Best wishes,
Becky

Hi Becky,

Thanks for reading and following my blog. It's always good to see people out there!

Regarding the flooding in Samui, flash flooding still occurs, that's the same all over the region! However, the difference with a year ago is that most places that have flash flooding on Samui, now are back to 'normal; again within 3 hours, compared to anything between 3 days and 3 weeks previously. There are still some hot spots, mainly around Chaweng and Laem Din market area, but in general, things look pretty good.
Right now we have a stretch of really nice weather but it's supposed to turn windy and more rain, but supposedly and hopefully not the same amounts that we just had!

Hope this helps.

Hi Camille,
I remember there were some nice but simple and inexpensive fish restaurants near an open-air market with many locals. You take the road to the right from northern part of Chaweng (around Iyara) toward Tesco Lotus. On this road you see the restaurants are on the left hand side when passing the market area. Do you know what this place is called (or what to tell the taxi driver to get there from Southern Chaweng). Thanks for your help!

Hi Henri,

You have to take a right now just before the one-way system starts.

It's just before the 7-11 and one of the restaurants there is called Pee Soon. Indeed a good area to eat!

That's exactly what I ment. Thanks for information! It really is a nice place. I like the many locals and cozy atmosphere. You can select the fish from the ice and enjoy! :)
