This is a question that the last couple of days has been asked by plenty of readers of this blog. Give or take a few variations in the question.
Despite all the negative travel advice being given by the various Western/European countries, passing through Bangkok is no big deal especially if you just connect flights or stay away from the unrest areas in Bangkok. It may be a wise thing to cancel any plans you had for Bangkok and just travel straight on to your final destination.
Once you're outside Bangkok and at your final tourist destination, live continues as you knew it. Phuket, Koh Tao, Koh Phangan and Samui as well as all other Southern destinations are just fine!
All activities are flowing according to schedule, dive courses, boat trips etc.
All the unrest has been confined to small areas in Bangkok and if you're a few blocks away, you wouldn't even know that something is going on. Although, fair enough, with the tyre burning that's going on right now, it's hard to ignore the smoke clouds. That's all they produce though, smoke, they look threatening but besides polluting Bangkok's air a bit more, they're harmless.
Hope this helps to reassure you that all is fine on Samui!

Hi Alicia,
Thanks for following my blog!
The weather right now is very fine, we had two showers today! The next couple of days may (hopefully if you live here!)have typical May or June showers. Rain for about 15 to 20 minutes and an hour or less later all is dry again.
You should be fine weather wise! Maybe check out the May archives for the last three years, on the left side of my blog if you scroll down.
Hei,
gladly to see your website. I will be going to Phuket next 7th June 2010, and feels glad that the situation is not bad
Thank you,
Uwie
Hi Uwie,
Glad I could be of help, for Phuket, don't forget to check out Jamie's Phuket and his Phuket weather blogs.
Enjoy your stay in Thailand.
I am travelling to Kosamui in the second half of October and then on to Bangkok. Please let me know if it is good weather, also a good place to stay close to Chewang Beach (is it really fun, sports and calm water) and things to do with children.
