Koh Samui, Thailand daily weather update; 17th November, 2011

Today's weather;

A blue sky with a few fluffy clouds in it is shaping up again over Koh Samui. Current temp at 7am is 24.1C

The forecast is settling in, it looks like the rainy season is officially about to start this coming Sunday. Get ready for strong wind bursts and plenty of rain. I will miss most of this because I'm off to Phuket this afternoon and have the 'stupid early' flight out to Bali tomorrow morning. It's time for the last PADI IDC on Gili Air for this year.

Yesterday saw a nearly blue sky for most of the day over Koh Samui and it was warm and dry. Max temp reached 31.4C

The current government has managed to overshadow all flood problems with a cunning plan to have the fugitive former PM Thaksin Shinawatra pardoned, a dangerous path to walk according to the Nation and fury, scorn erupt over the decree according to the Bangkok Post.
This would back fire in any other country in the world, I wonder what will happen in Thailand.

In the meantime, back at the flooded farm, it seems that social networks are overtaking papers as sources for updates on news regarding floods. The Zuckerbergs of this world would have never dreamed of this in their wildest dreams, just a few years ago.
A Dutch expert expected the city of Bangkok to be dry by early next month.

Sad news is that the overall death toll reached 564.
All the promises for help made to help affected businesses seem now, not too surprisingly, aim only at the big guys, leaving the small and medium sized businesses in limbo.

Thanks for booking your hotels at my two blogs over the past couple of days, please keep it up and look into my Samui hotel recommendation blog and my Thailand hotel recommendation blog for all your hotel booking around the country and beyond.

Hi Camille,

I'm actually gonna come to samui on the 4th Dec - 7th Dec next month. Thus, I was wondering if this year's heavy rain in bangkok will affect the weather in samui as well .... probably longer rain throughout december ?

thx.

Jon

Hi Kelly,

Unfortunately it may be that you may have to have a talk with your travel agent. Samui's rainy season tends to go on until mid December, please have a look at my archives, half way down the page on my Samui info and weather blog, left hand side, they go back a few years. Open a month that you’re interested in and check one of the of the last posts of each month, starting with ‘Goodbye to…………’ this post will tell you the weather conditions for that month.
You can also check each individual post for that month if you wish to.

Hope this helps for now.

Hi Jon,

In general, the weather in Bangkok won't affect Samui's weather pattern that much, I think that both weather patterns are fairly unrelated. Bangkok was actually quite dry from a rain point of view recently.
