9th May 2007

Today's weather;

It's starting out nicely, a blue sky with a really thin white cloud layer. It looks like another nice day coming up. It's 27C right now and it looks promising.

Yesterday there was a max temp of 32.8C but funnily enough, after I wrote my weather blog piece, within 10 minutes it started to rain very hard combined with a very strong and hard wind. It rained a few more times during the night but now it looks fine again.

Glad the weather's nice and warm with you. There are blue skies above me in Okinawa now and the temperature in our staffroom is 29C (we are only allowed air con from the end of this month).

How is the current IDC going?

Hi Dave,

It's good indeed that the weather is changing for the better again.

The IDC is going fine, I've got two candidates and they're strong.

Had a few beers yesterday with Steve and Stuart.

Great stuff. Next time you see them, send on my regards

Will do so Dave, looks like Steve is leaving today or tomorrow though, for a short trip through Thailand with Mickey Mau and than off to the UK.

hey camille

mel here. Sounds like the weather is really shaping up! We can’t wait. 3 more days.

As a new Yorker, do you have any favorite restaurants you can recommend? We really wanna just get out of new york and just enjoy your beautiful island.

We are staying by Buddha beach. What are the Must Do’s? My fiancĂ© can’t wait to do the elephant ride, snorkeling, and canoeing. Other than that we’re wide open. Can’t wait for the food and massages!

Keep up the awesome work with the blog

Hi Mel,

Welcome to my blog and to Samui in a few days!

The weather seems to be shaping up indeed! Today was another warm and sunny day with no rain so far.

Big Buddha is a good place to be, I live around the corner myself.

There's loads of good restuarants out here. What are you looking for?

Some good Thai places are Pee Soon in Chaweng, my absolute favorite Seafood place on the island and very affordable as well. It's on the road from where the one way system starts in Chaweng to the traffic lights. It's kind of behind 7-11, if you look at that 7-11, to the left in a small market area.

Big Buddha has plenty of restaurants to choose from and some good bars as well.

Western style food is a bit more expensive but there's a real class place called 'The Mangrove' in the Big Buddha area, Belgian run place with French menu but the best in my opinion is Zazen between Bophud and Maenam.

There's plenty of other stuff to do on Samui, The Jungle Canopy ride is good fun, looking up the Mummified Monk in Wat Khunaram in the south of Samui. Visiting Big Buddha it self is worth while and also the near by Wat PLai Laem (Wat = Thai for Temple) with it's big fish pond around it is fun, especially feeding the hundreds of catfish.

Hope this is a start and it'd be nice to hear how you like it overhere.

Feel free to ask more questions.

wow perfect! We really want to embrace the culture and food so I highly doubt that we'll be eating any western food. we're looking forward to the seafood!

any suggestions on where to snorkel? any neighboring islands to visit? i'm really happy we decided on samui instead of phuket, where i hear it's their rainy season. we're going to be packing as much into our 5 days as possible.

Hi Mel,

There'll be plenty of things to do during 5 days, with plenty of Thai food to enjoy.

For snorkeling I do recommend a day trip to Koh Tao, the snorkeling is best down there.
Let me know if you're interested in that, that's one of the things we do on Samui.

See you soon.
