Yamato, Japanese Restaurant, Chaweng

Yamato, Japanese Restaurant, Chaweng

Unfortunately Yamato has closed it's doors

It's been a while since I've been doing some restaurant reviews, I wish I could do a few per week, but oh my, my weight would go through the roof, or rather the opposite way?

Today however was a great occasion to visit one of our favorite restaurants on Samui since years; Yamato an outstanding Japanese restaurant in Soi Colibri in Chaweng.

The cosy outside of Yamato in Soi Colibri, which is located almost opposite Centara Chaweng on the beach road, coming from the one way system, a bit further down the road than Zico's Brazilian restaurant on the right hand side. On the corner with beach road is a fairly big Kodak shop.

One of the reasons we, my wife and me, like it so much is that the kitchen is run by two Japanese chefs, which results in the excellent taste of the meals!

Don't get me wrong, I do like the Japanese chains like Oishi and Fuji et all but there has to be a difference and that difference is amongst others by having two Japanese chefs preparing your food!

A view at the interior of Yamato, the back room is air conditioned! Makes a nice difference on a warm and sunny day like today. The other nice thing is that Yamato's location in Soi Colibri makes for a quiet street environment, in contrast to their previous location directly on beach road.

Amongst others we had this lovely seaweed salad. Other things on today's table included a mixed Sushi plate, Agedashi tofu, Gyoza and other bits and pieces.

This Salmon Don dish was also part of our meal, salmon sashimi over vinegared rice.

If you're in to Japanese food, this among the best Samui has to offer or if you want to experience Japanese food at a good price (compared to Europe), stop by and enjoy!

For my Japanese readers (as if there are that many) or for you folks that can read Japanese, the owners of Yamato seem to have a Japanese website which you can visit here.
