Food on Wheels; Bakso on Gili Air in Indonesia, part 2

It's 'Food on Wheels' time again, and whilst I'm almost 3 weeks during May on Gili Air in Indonesia, it makes sense to show off a local sample. That's easier said than done though.

There isn't as much going on here on the island in the 'Food on Wheels' department but this evening I got lucky! There was a Bakso soup push cart near the restaurant where we had dinner, and I immediately took the opportunity to get some pictures in.

It's the second Bakso soup cart I spotted on the island, the first one that I spotted, just over two years ago, and sadly seems to be no longer around.

The Bakso soup comes probably close to the Thai Kuaitiao soup, although Bakso seems to be made with beef and the Thai variation with a lot more options, like pork and fish balls.

I'm happy to have spotted this local variation and ma happy to share it here.

Koh Samui, Thailand daily weather update; 8th May, 2014

Today's weather;

Around Koh Samui there are cloudy skies this morning but it looks like they will burn off as soon as the sun starts to heat up. Current temp at 7am is 28.6C

Here on Gili Air in Indonesia, where we will be until the 20th may, we are enjoying a near perfect blue sky with a current temp at 8am local time of 26C, although it already feels like 32C

Yesterday evening during dinner, we had a short shower which felt good and cooled things down a bit.

Yesterday saw clouds during the morning but they got burnt off by the sun rather quickly and the afternoon brought in some wind. Max temp reached 33C

The forecast still predicts cloudy skies until Saturday afternoon and returning come Tuesday but there's no real rain or showers predicted at the moment.

Today's weather;

Koh Samui has a partly cloudy sky and everything looks like another hot and humid day. Current temp at 7am is 27.5C

On Gili Air in Indonesia we have a nice blue sky and the rainy season is well over here and the island is heading into the dry season. Current temp at 8am local time is 26C

Yesterday was a cloudy day, especially during the evening but there was no rain.

Yesterday saw a hot and humid day around Samui with some rain at parts of the island and a max temp of 33C

The forecast predicts cloudy skies today and tomorrow and some cloudy skies towards mid next week with an occasional shower.

Koh Samui is having some very light drizzle this morning with the skies covered in clouds. Current temp at 7am is 29.4C

On Gili Air in Indonesia we have a mainly blue sky with some scattered clouds and a current temp at 8am local time of 26C

Yesterday was partly cloudy but warm around Samui with a max temp of 35C

The forecast predicts fairly strong wind today and in general an easing up of the clouds. Occasional showers can still occur over the next 7 days, but nothing too serious.

Today's weather;

The clouds that were predicted for Koh Samui are moving in. There are plenty of low hanging clouds that may burn off once the sun heats up, just like yesterday, but the picture below also shows some more serious clouds that may bring some well needed rain. Current temp at 7am is already 30C

On Gili Air in Indonesia, we have another near perfect blue sky, which seems to last all day long, with occasionally some clouds drifting in and out. Current temp at 8am local time is 25C

Yesterday saw a cloudy start of the day but the those clouds were quickly burnt off once the sun heated up. At some parts of the island there may have been a trace of rain. Max temp reached 33C

The forecast is still predicting heavy cloud layers until Wednesday after which there should be a lot more sun again. There's not a lot of rain predicted for the next 7 days.

Yesterday saw another warm day with a few clouds around Koh Samui with a max temp of 34C

The forecast predicts cloudy skies and some showers until Wednesday with a much lighter cloud layer above Samui from Thursday onward.

Koh Samui's sky were partly cloudy with thunder and lightning in the mountains overlooking Chaweng early in the morning but now it's fairly clear and steaming hot. Current temp at 7am is 28.5C

On Gili Air in Indonesia we have a lovely blue sky with a few clouds with a current temp of 28C at 8am local time.

Yesterday the PADI IDC on Gili Air for may 2014 kicked off with a very nice group of candidates.

Yesterday saw some clouds and also some sunshine and some very hard rain during the night, between 4 and 5am. Max temp reached 35C.

The forecast changed a little bit, not the cloudy skies over the next days but now there could be some showers until Tuesday.

Today's weather;

Internet connectivity issues this morning prevented me to have an earlier update, but here we are! After the welcome words to this month earlier today, it was blue skies this morning around Koh Samui but it will probably not get as hot due the wind picking up around noon along the coast line. Current temp at 10am is 31.5C

On Gili Air in Indonesia it was blue skies during the very early morning but around 7am clouds moved in and they're still there. No rain and nice and warm though with a current temp at 1pm local time of 33C

Yesterday saw a hot day around Samui with a max temp of 35C!

The forecast predicts cloud layers for the next 7 days but hardy any rain, be prepared for some more hot and sticky days.

Welcome to May 2014

We're at the beginning of a new month and as habit has it is on my blog, here's a brief overview of what to expect weather wise this month.

In general may is a bit of a mixed bag, in general we can see some rain but the sun is out as well. Last year was nice and sunny but previous May editions always had some rain in there. At the moment, the island needs rain, the ground water levels are very low after the hot and very dry April we just had.

Currently I'm on Gili Air in Indonesia, where I start a PADI IDC today. The whole family is with me and it's not until 22nd May that we will be back on Samui shores. Two days later, 24th May, will see the Care for Cancer charity run in Nathon, now already in it's 7th year.

Today Koh Samui's Bike week kicks off, with lots of great rides and bikes around the island.

Today's weather;

There were some hazy clouds around Koh Samui this morning with a current temp of 31.3C at 10am. It's looking like another hot one today.

In the meantime, we arrived on Gili Air in Indonesia, after 4 days of travelling and a day off on Bali. It's partly cloudy here and current temp at 2pm local time is 30C

Yesterday saw a hot day around Samui with massive cloud formations hanging over the mountains at Maenam and Chaweng and with a max temp of 34C

The forecast for the next 7 days shows cloudy days with occasionally some well needed rain.
