Koh Samui, Thailand daily weather update; 8th December, 2010

Today's weather;

Samui is dry, for a change. It looks like the next couple of days are staying dry as well, which will be a relieve to all islanders and visitors! Current temp at 7am is 27C

On Koh Lanta the sun is ruling, a nice, mainly blue sky is welcoming us this morning with a current temp at 7am of 25C

Yesterday saw almost all day long and into the evening, rain on Samui! There were also a few short power cuts, but nothing major. During the last two days too much water came down and scenes like early November were common in parts around the island, specifically in Lamai. Samui made it also onto Thai news TV channels, for all the wrong rainy reasons! There were landslides yesterday, apparently around Lamai. Max temp reached 25.7C with another 130mm of rain!

Koh Lanta was fairly dry, besides a drizzle or two. Max temp reached 29.2C
The current IDC has been completed and today we're all off to Hin Daeng and Hin Muang, a dive site that regularly sees Manta Rays, so I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Hotel bookings throughout Thailand

Hotel bookings throughout Thailand

When you come to visit Koh Samui, my Samui Hotel recommendation blog may come in handy to get good advice on my knowledge of the specific resorts around his island. Very recently I had a blog post about this Samui hotel recommendation blog and it received a good amount of views.

Most likely, when you visit Samui, you will be staying somewhere else in Thailand as well, not only on Koh Samui. For this purpose I also have my Thailand hotel recommendation blog, in which I report first hand from hotels that I stayed at during my travels or places that I know of. Especially recently, when I started to conduct IDC's around Thailand, I find out about some great resorts.
My list of hotels in Koh Phangan, Koh Lanta and Kao Lak is growing because of this.

Hotels Combined .com

Hotels Combined, an excellent search tool for finding hotels around Thailand!

My reviews are personnel and honest, a very good way of finding out about a lot of small things that the websites and booking sites don't comment on or are not mentioned.

Have a look and browse around and maybe you find just that information that makes it worthwhile booking through my blog(s).

Food on Wheels; Fruit

Food on Wheels; Fruit

Time for some Food on Wheels action again and today's entry is about a very popular variation and because of it's popularity, also appearing a lot in the Thai streets; Fruit vendors.

A typical fruit vendor cart

Thailand has a wide variety of different fruits that most Thais like to eat a lot as well. Put them two variations together and dozens of Thai vendors will sell fruit on a daily base. During hot days they can be a very refreshing appearance with their cooled down fruit assortment. The fruit sits behind glass windows on ice cubes to prevent it from turning bad quickly.

I clearly remember during my first visit to Thailand, when I was wandering around Bangkok's streets and finally had the courage to walk up to one of these vendors and order pine apple and the taste explosion that hit my taste buds. This was pine apple that couldn't be compared with any canned or fresh pine apple back in Europe. I was totally blown away by it and ever since have been buying various kinds of fruit from these vendors.

Popular fruits include the already mentioned pine apple, water melon, mango and papaya, just to mention a few.

Sometimes the carts aren't motorized at all and the vendors sell just one kind of fruit, like this grape vendor in Kao Lak.

If it's your visit to Thailand, don't hesitate and buy some fruit of the vendors, you will love the taste and you'll become a frequent customer instantly. The price is also great, most fruits range between 20 and 30 THB per serving.

Welcome to December 2010

Welcome to December 2010

Usually December has some rain during the start of the month and things tend to clear up towards the middle and are nice around Christmas.

This year seems to be thinking slightly different about those averages. 2007 to 2009 were nice, besides some rain early in the month and were lovely towards the middle and end, feel free to check my archives, on the left column of my blog page, about half way down the page,

The current situation is not looking that great though, plenty of rain so far today and the forecast isn't looking that great neither for the next 7 days. Plenty of rain and drizzle are predicted. Let's hope the weather turns for the better soon and we will experience some nice sunshine soon on Samui again.
