This morning I was in Dumaguete in the Philippines, where it was mainly cloudy but dry. Due to an early flight, which was delayed but no internet or wifi working at the airport and a massive taxi queue upon arrival, today's update is late and comes from Manila where I am right now in a partially cloudy and fairly sunny city with a current temp at 1pm local time of 33C

Yesterday saw some rain again around Samui in the early evening. Max temp reached 33C

The forecast still predicts mainly cloudy skies with some strong wind come next weekend.

Curfew lifted on Koh Samui

Good news ofr Samui; The curfew installed by the current military junta has been lifted since yesterday for Koh Samui and Surat Thani and for two other locations, Phuket and Chonburi or better known; Pattaya.
The reason behind it was to ease the atmosphere at these locations and reduce the fallout on the local economy.

Food on Wheels; Bread in Panagsama Beach, Moalboal, Philippines

After last month update on the Food on Wheels series from Indonesia during my stay on Gili Air, it makes sense to have an update from Panagsama beach near Moalboal in the Philippines, where I currently am.

It wasn't until yesterday that I finally saw a sample that would fit into this series. In the Philippines, there are plenty of bakeries all around the country. As already reported once with a picture from Cebu City.

What's for sale?

The area where I stay is rather small so not that much traffic comes through and I was very delighted to have the opportunity to find this gem.

It's interesting to see that I already found a bread on wheels variation in Sanur on Bali, Indonesia. Fascinating finds!

Unless I find some very cool theme variations in Dumaguete or Manila later this week, the next month's update should be from Thailand again, so stay tuned!

I hoped you enjoyed this addition to the series.

Panagsama Beach, Moalboal, Philippines

Since about a week I've been on Panagsama Beach, part of Moalboal in the Philippines, conducting a PADI IDC at PADI 5* IDC Center 'Neptune Diving Adventure'.

Panagsama Beach, Moalboal, Philippines morning view

Breakfast view

The moment I arrived here from Cebu City, I liked it here. The vibe is good, it's relaxed and very laid back. If you've been to the Philippines, you know already how friendly the local people are and if you haven't visited this country yet, it's about time! Here in Panagsama beach, the local people are very friendly indeed.

The actual village of Moalboal is about 4km away, about 40.-PHP on a tricycle. There's no real need to visit there though, it's too cozy on Panagsama beach to even consider leaving.

Souvenir shops

There are plenty of good restaurants ranging from Italian, Mexican, seafood and international fare locations to local barbecue places, a bakery that only opens during the weekend and a handful of bars.

Beers can still be had for 35.-PHP in a bar (try to find that in a bar in Thailand for a similar price) and mango shakes are thick, tasteful and cheap, coming in between 80 and 90.-PHP.

An old Jeep, a chassis where all the Jeepneys originate from

It's Sunday evening now, and there was an influx from locals Filipinos for the weekend, mainly from Cebu City but as far away as Manila.

The diving is also excellent here, with a house reef within walking distance of the dive center. The house reef hosts a 'sardine run'; Millions of sardines moving in the same direction or changing direction at the same moment, very impressive and if you just hang there and watch, it's just like a living picture.

Panagsama Beach, Moalboal, Philippines Maria

Don't forget that the Philippines are catholic, a big change compared to Thailand and yes, this is the main road in Panagsama beach

For non divers there's not too much to do, although various kind of trips are being offered, like swimming with whale sharks in Oslob, adventure treks and some other local sight seeing points.
If you like a sleepy little village with some fantastic diving, Moalboal can be just what you're looking for. I know that I enjoyed my time here and am looking forward to coming back!

Welcome to June 2014

The month of June is usually a little bit of a mixed bag. There's a rainy season going but it doesn't affect Koh Samui that much. There can be rain showers but usually short ones and before and after the showers it's not unusual to have sunshine.
Last year was not a great or 'average' June, so let's hope this year turns out better.

This month I should be at home most of the month, I will be back on 7th June and start a Koh Samui based PADI IDC 11th June. It will be good to be at home for a longer period of time.
