Koh Samui, Thailand daily weather update; 17th January, 2017

Today's weather;

Like clockwork the predicted two days with bad weather, hard wind and lots of rain have showed up over Koh Samui. It's dark and grey and very wet outside. Last night or at least during the early morning, plenty of rain came down already and lots more is expected today with storm like conditions for wind and rain around 10am. The rest of the day should see a strong wind and plenty of rain. Some flash flood may be expected. Current temp at 7am is 24C

Koh Samui, Thailand daily weather update; 17th January, 2017

Koh Samui, Thailand daily weather update; 17th January, 2017; Boats moored in a small bay, protected form hard wind near Big Buddha, last week during a dry spell

Yesterday saw all day long a thick cloud cover but it stayed dry during the day time. In the very early morning at 4am there was a thunderstorm passing over and at 7pm we had some rain. The sun wasn't able to make an appearance although it tried to peek through a few times during the morning hours. Max temp reached 30C

The forecast for the next seven days is not looking that great, plenty of rain and wind expected today and tomorrow, especially around 10am this morning and  this coming night and the rest of the week we should expect more rain, but not so hard and not so much anymore except for Friday, where we may see a break.

Hi Camille,
thank you so much for your weather blog!
Is the weather on Ang Thong Island the same as on Koh Samui?
Google says, that there will be no rain on Ang Thong Islands from Wednesday till Saturday.
If this could be correct, I will book some tours to Ang Thong of course. However, I cannot imagine to have good weather on Ang Thong and bad weather on Samui at the same time, because they are so close to each other.
Greetings
Abraxas

Thanks for all the updates. I've been following this blog for the last few days. We're flying in to Koh Samui today at noon. We have a ferry to Koh Tao tomorrow. Is there any sense that ferries might be cancelled because of the waves? Thanks again!!

Hi Abraxas,

You're correct, the weather at Ang Thong park will be very similar to Koh Samui, if it rains on Samui, it's very likely that it will rain at the National Marine park as well.

It will be very unlikely that the ferries between Samui-Phangan and Tao will be interrupted let alone cancelled.

Hi Camille,
Thanks for your great blog. I would like to ask you about possibilities what to do in koh samui when its raining. We came 2 days before, yesterday we were relaxing and today i am thinking about what to do. I think we can go to massage, to fitness, billiard, bowling and to shopping centre in chaweng. And what else? I have no ideas in this weather. We are in Lamai and husband is so sad for rain i am trying to find some options what to do, can you help me please?
Thank you
Sandra

Thank you for great updates! I have heard that the weather on Koh Tao is better today and the upcoming days? Do you know anything about that?

You're welcome

Hi Sandra,

You named a few options already. Near Lamai at Beach Republic is the Escapology, that's fun for a few hours.

Hi Ronja,

That would surprise me, in general, Tao, Phangan and Samui have very similar weather patterns.

Hi Steve,

Sorry, can not confirm that, if I could, I would be a very rich man since it would mean that I can forecast the weather! Take it up with your friend or please have a look at my archives, half way down the page on my Samui info and weather blog, right hand side, they go back a few years. Open a month that you’re interested in and check one of the last posts of each month, starting with ‘Goodbye to…………’ this post will tell you the weather conditions for that month.
You can also check each individual post for that month if you wish to.
