Today's weather;
It's cloudy this morning and no sign of sunshine with a current temp at 7 am of 28.7C.
There's a warning for 10 southern provinces, including Surat Thani for "Heavy rain and strong wind-wave" by the Thai Meteorological Department.
Yesterday was a lovely day, strong wind but sunshine all day long and no rain. A very surprising day when probably all on the island expected the monsoon to start full on. Max temp reached 30.5C.
Yesterday the current IDC was well on it's way.

Hi Camille I saw your weather blog & was wondering if you may be able to
advise me re the weather in koh samui I am coming out on Monday morning to
stay and the new mind & body essential retreat & just wondering the
forecast for next week although predicting rain looks like sunshine too I
have no idea what to pack re the weather can you possibly advise having
lived out there for so long. Many thanks Shelly
Hi Shelly,
Thanks for your enquiry.
Right now the weather forecast seems to have done a 180 turn and it's all looking good. Bits and pieces of rain but mainly sunshine.
Let's hope it holds for you guys, we on the island need some serious rain sooner or later to get the ground water levels up again!
Something is wrong here ;-)
Hope you enjoy your stay.
Hi Camille,
I'm so glad to have come across your blog! It's really interesting and
informative, and your daily weather updates are just what I need right now.
A friend and I will arrive on Samui next Saturday 14th... But I really
regret listening to people saying that the rainy season only means a few
showers a day! Sounds like the weather is incredibly unpredictable in
November and it can rain for days at the time without sunshine. Annoyingly,
my Lonely Planet guide only mentions the monsoon season in passing but I
have since read online that it's probably best to stay away from the
Southeastern Gulf in November. We're only there for 9 days and although we
don't mind a bit of rain we were hoping to spend a lot of time swimming,
snorkling and generally enjoying nice weather. Anyway, if you could answer
two questions I would be so grateful. Firstly, do you think that we're
better off trying to make it across to the Andaman Coast instead, and
secondly, if this is the case, is it really time consuming and troublesome
to make it there. From what I've read, the fastest ferry to Surat Thani
takes about 2-3 hours, and a bus from there to Krabi is another 2 hours.
Then I think there is about 2 hours to Phi Phi. This doesn't include
waiting times though and since we need to get back to Samui to get our
flight back to Bangkok I'm not sure it's worthwhile... Any advice would be
much appreciated! All the best, Veronica
Hi Veronica,
The weather is indeed very unpredictable during November, like right now, lots of rain were predicted fort his week and it's been pure sunshine for the last two days! Only one monsoon like day with very heavy wind and one monsoon like day with hard rain.
Right now I would suggest to play it by ear, however, if you decide to travel to the dark side, uh, I mean the Andaman side, I would suggest flying to Phuket, last I know is that Bangkok Air has one way tix for 1.100,-THB from Samui.
Otherwise you'll travel a full day to get to the other side.
Hope this helps.
thankyou Camille for your email It's good news for me but not for
yourselves as you need the rain I just want it to hold off during my
10 day stay don't mind some rain but not constant
Regards
Shelly
Hi Shelly,
It's still difficult to predict, but right now things look rather good for
you.
Hi Camille,
Thank you so much for your quick reply, it's much appreciated!
I've always wanted to see Samui so we'll make it there and see what happens. If the weather really is that bad we'll have to look into other options.
Once again, many thanks for your advice. I will keep reading your blog!
Veronica

toes
