Today's weather;
It's overcast this morning. No sunbeam to be seen at all! Current temp at 7 am is still 27.4C.
Yesterday turned out to be a very warm and sunny day with a blue sky all day long and a max temp of 31.3C.

G'day Camille..I was intending to hire a scooter when in Samui and was interested in trying some of your restaurant and sight suggestions..Do you have any advice or comments about hiring a scooter?..I understand I shouldnt leave my passport(only a photocopy) with the store..Thanks James..
thank you for keeping us updated on every day in Samui. I suppose the main concern of every traveller is the weather - so you have been living ther 8 years already - what do you think of this year - is the rainy season coming to an end or here is more rain to come? Would you recommend coming to Samui for beach holidays for Christmas - or it is better to consider another place in Thailand - and if not Samui - where would you go for Christmas?
With regards to renting a bike, just drive very slowly and use the helmet which they (should) provide.
Driving around Samui can be an experience and often times, unfortunately, it's not a positive one. Accidents do happen, so be very, very careful and yes, don't leave the passport, a copy should be sufficient, although you may have to try a few different shops.
In my opinion, the rainy season came to an end although I expect it to rain occasionally, like today!
In all my 8 years so far during Christmas here, I remember only dry and sunny weather stretches during the 'holiday' season.
If I was to go somewhere else for Christmas, I definitely would choose a place where there would be something to do and where I could relax, so a beach resort would come to mind.
The North of Thailand may also be an alternative, since that will make for a complete change of scenery compared to the ocean!
