Koh Samui, Thailand daily weather update; 10^th August, 2016

Today's weather;

It's cloudy this morning over Koh Samui with a bit of a breeze. The breeze may become stronger and the clouds seem to be here to stay today and although it feels like rain is in the air, it's supposed to stay dry today. Current temp at 7am is 28C

Port of Koh Samui in Nathon, also referred to as 'Coco port' on one of the banners at the entrance of the Seatran pier, where I arrived back on the island, around 3.30pm. Just another half hour to go before I got home 

Yesterday saw a nice and sunny morning but during the afternoon it was grey and wet and when I arrived back on the island, there was a constant drizzle from the ferry all the way home. Max temp reached 33C

The forecast for the next ten days shows cloudy to fairly cloudy skies with a strong breeze, at times with storm like strength. Surprisingly there's not that much rain predicted.

It's anything but your typical August so far this month. Hang in there!

Koh Samui, Thailand daily weather update; 9^th August, 2016

Today's weather;

It's sunny skies over Koh Samui this morning with some scattered, almost isolated clouds and it promises to be a very nice and possibly very hot day today. Current temp at 7am is 27C

On Phuket my job is done for the time being, after a great days diving yesterday at the Raya islands, teaching the PADI recreational side mount specialty instructor course. Soon I will be leaving home for Koh Samui after I finish packing up the car. 

It's partially cloudy here with a thin cloud layer which I expect to be burnt away soon, once the sun starts heating up. Current temp at 7am is 28.4C

A basket ball court in Chaweng, at the Southern end of the Chaweng lake. It's a very busy and popular spot at the end of the day and during the early evening, with many Thai and Western players enjoying themselves during basketball games

Yesterday saw a some rain showers around the island but also dry spells and some sunshine here and there with a max temp of 33C

The forecast changed slightly again, For the next ten days I expect cloudy days but not necessarily a lot of rain. There will however be a very strong breeze or wind and at times it may be storm like, after the weekend.

Koh Samui, Thailand daily weather update; 8^th August, 2016

Today's weather;

It's looking gorgeous this morning over Koh Samui and all the rain, wind and clouds seem to have been pushed to the side. A blazing blue sky with a lovely sun is hanging over the island and it looks like it's going to stay like this today, so get out your tanning lotion and enjoy the day on the beach or next to your pool. Current temp at 7am is 28C

On Phuket it is the day after the PADI IE for August on Phuket under a thinly clouded sky with bits of sun shining through and a fair breeze. The afternoon might bring in some showers though. Current temp at 7am here is also 28C

I'm on the boat today, teaching a PADI specialty instructor course (recreational side mount) and tomorrow I will be on my way home to Koh Samui again!

The Guan Yu shrine in Hua Thanon, the ceiling being decorated with banners and in the background on the wall pictures from Koh Samui in the olden days. This shrine is well worth a visit

Yesterday saw a dry and partially sunny day around Koh Samui, leaving the rainy days behind. Max temp reached 31C

The forecast for the next ten days on Koh Samui is predicting another sunny day tomorrow and a mix of sunny and cloudy days for the following days. Be prepared for strong to medium strong winds, at times with short storm like bursts and an occasional shower. Not bad at all and the weather seems to be on the up again, a bit more like August on our island should be.

Today's weather;

It's cloudy but dry over Koh Samui this morning and I expect it to stay like this for the remainder of the day with maybe, but just a maybe, some sunshine during the late afternoon. Current temp at 8am is 28C

On Phuket the PADI IE is in it's final moments with the open water dives being conducted right now at Kata Beach, 

It has been raining last bight and this morning and the sky is grey and cloudy here. Current temp at 8.30am is 25.2C

A rainy Saturday morning in Plai Laem yesterday, ouir garden was wet! Today during the referendum it will be 'dry', by order of the Junta, but in terms of alcohol that is!

Yesterday saw some early morning showers and some thunder at times around Koh Samui with a much drier afternoon. Max temp reached 33C

Kata beach on Phuket this morning. Empty due to a very cloudy and rainy morning but surprisingly there are no waves whilst around the corner on Karon beach, the waves come rolling in

The forecast predicts that Samui skies will be fairly sunny until this Wednesday but with a nice breeze, on Thursday the wind will pick up but it will still have sunny moments during the following days. The weather prediction has definitely improved overnight and it's looking a lot better again for the next ten days.

Today's weather;

It's cloudy over Koh Samui this morning but the wind has almost disappeared for the time being. I expect it to stay dry but cloudy for the rest of the day, with an occasional burst of sunshine. Current temp at 7am is 28C

On Phuket the PADI IE (exams) for my two candidates is about to start under a partially cloudy and dry sky with a current temp of 28.3C at 7am

Yesterday saw a warm day around Koh Samui but with some showers. Max temp reached 34C

At the foot of a steep hill in Kata Noi on Phuket, which leads to Rawai. The hill is about two and a half km long and I ran it once during a training run, very steep indeed!

The forecast is looking fairly good until Tuesday when the wind is supposed to pick and Thailand will be at the outskirt of a new typhoon. Strong wind to storm like conditions are predicted from Tuesday onward all the way to Monday 15th August, accompanied by showers.

Koh Samui, Thailand daily weather update; 5^th August, 2016

Today's weather;

It's cloudy over Koh Samui this morning and I expect it to remain mostly cloudy today but dry and with a nice and cool breeze. Current temp at 9am is 29C. 

A late update this morning since I just got back from a 17.5km interval run here on Phuket. The weather changed drastically overnight here, it's blue skies galore this morning and the current temp at 9am is 29.1C

Yesterday we completed the current July/August 2016 PADI IDC on Phuket with a day out on the ocean and some open water training dives and tomorrow the PADI IE or exam starts for my two candidates.

They were running out of parking space at the Government hospital in Nathon,so the grand idea was to create parking space in front of already parked cars. Brilliant idea!

Yesterday saw a windy and cloudy day around Koh Samui with some rain showers thrown in for good measure. Max temp reached 31C

Chalong pier on Phuket, under a dark and grey sky yesterday morning when we left for a days diving at Raya Yai island. It was choppy on the way out but a lot nicer on the way back in again

The forecast for the next ten days on Koh Samui look nice until Wednesday, until the outskirts of a new typhoon will hit Thailand again and currently strong storm like conditions are expected around next weekend, starting next Friday.

Koh Samui, Thailand daily weather update; 4^th August, 2016

Today's weather;

It's grey and very cloudy over Koh Samui this morning and I would expect some rain today, although not too much. Current temp at 7am is 28C

On Phuket it's not much different, all of Thailand suffers being on the outskirts of typhoon Nida, that hangs over the general Hong Kong area. Right now it's dry but it may well rain later today here. Current temp at 7am is 28.4C

Today the whole current July/August PADI IDC on Phuket will be on the boat to the nearby Raya islands for the open water dives of said PADI IDC. This is the last part of the course and tomorrow we should have a day off before the PADI IE starts this coming Saturday.

Yesterday saw a cloudy and windy day around Koh Samui with occasionally some showers. Max temp reached 31C

The entrance to Wat Kitti Sangkaram in Kata on Phuket, where during the early hours of each week day it's busy because parents drop their children off for school. As like with many temples in Thailand, this temple also houses a school.

The forecast doesn't look too good, we're about to say goodbye to the Nida typhoon and a new storm weather pattern is showing up and may reach Samui's shores come next Wednesday. It may be slightly less cloudy but the wind pretty much stays , picking up in strength next Thursday, into the weekend and there may be showers all along. Not the best start to a Samui August!

Today's weather;

It's cloudy, windy and wet at some parts over Koh Samui this morning and it looks like ti will stay this way. Thailand is at the outskirts of Typhoon Nida, that currently is near Hong Kong and today and tomorrow are not looking that great. Current temp at 7am is 29C

On Phuket we had a few storm like winds since yesterday evening and there was one early this morning, but right now the storm has ceased but there is still a strong breeze and among the heavy and grey clouds, are sometimes some blue spots. Current temp at 7am is 27,8C

Yesterday saw strong wind around Koh Samui but it remained dry although it was mostly cloudy. Max temp reached 32C

The forecast for the next ten days predicts storm like conditions for today and tomorrow with heavy clouds and rain, a breeze and sunshine with an occasional tropical shower over the weekend and come next week Wednesday the storm like conditions may be back.

Today's weather;

There's a very strong wind blowing over Koh Samui this morning but the sky is partially clouded with some blue parts in it. Expect some cloudy skies later today but in the best possible scenario, it remains like this today.   Current temp at 7am is 28C

On Phuket we have a very strong wind, at midnight I woke up from the ferocity of the wind or storm that was going on at the time being. It's wet with moments of rain and drizzle and some dry spells as well but the sky is very dark and grey. Current temp at 7am is 27.4C

A warning sign you about the helmet law on Koh Samui and in Thailand, at the police box near the Bophud traffic lights. One of the many laws on Koh Samui that is only used when it suits the men in brown. Helmets are now required for both the rider and the passnger(s) on the bike, but the police only checks occasionally, all other days of the month nobody seems to care on Koh Samui whether you use a helmet or not. Helmet use by motorbike riders seems to be a lot more on the mainland compared to Koh Samui

The forecast for the next ten days predicts a lot of wind and thunderstorms with rain from today until Friday, when the storms are petering out. The weekend and next week should be very sunny but come Wednesday a new storm seems to be coming Samui's way. You may expect an occasional tropical shower after the weekend.

Welcome to August 2016

Welcome to August 2016

It's the end of the month and time to say Welcome to August 2016. 

August is one of the nicer and definately one of the busiest month on Koh Samui, with lots of Europeans visiting our island as part of their summer holidays.

The weather is in general very nice and sunny although occasionally a tropical shower may cross your path on the island, lasting just a few minutes but they can be intense.
This is also a great for diving, with in general good visibility at the dive sites and August is known to have whaleshark sightings on a regular base, although I can't promise them to be at the dive sites! Contact me if you're interested in diving or if you want to start your diving adventures with the Open water diver course or just have and enjoy an introductory dive.

Swings at Choengmon beach, a nice place to relax and kick back and enjoy the surroundings.

After the first August week I should be back on Koh Samui again, when the current PADI IDC on Phuket for July/August 2016 has been completed.

There will be a lot of running once I'm back, since I started my training schedule for the Khanom marathon come 25th September, every Sunday will see long runs, if you're interested, let me know and you can join a group of local runners.
