Central Festival has opened it's doors on Koh Samui

Central Festival has opened it's doors on Koh Samui on Saturday 29th March, 2014 was a long awaited event by many Samui-ans. Yes indeed, Central Festival opened it's doors and I'm glad I wasn't there! The line up of famous Thai artists was long and that alone guaranteed a busy Grand Opening.

For future reference, it may be better not to visit in the weekends, I expect it to be very busy, weekdays will allow for a much better and relaxed shopping experience. We went today, a Monday, around 4pm and it was busy but relaxed.

Since it was our first time in the parking lot, which offers space for 200 cars, we couldn't find an elevator and had to carry the children's buggy up the stairs, there was no signage indicating where an elevator might be. On the way out, we discovered where two elevators are located.

It's a vast area and we only walked through one part of the mall. We'll be back to visit the other part. It's all laid out over two floors and a parking garage and it's all outdoors. If everything would be indoors and had to be air-conditioned, like it is all over at the mainland outlets, the whole island would be experiencing a continues power cut! All main shops are air conditioned though.

The mall is built on a 37 rai plot of land with a total project area of 90,000 sq.m the approximate investment in this project  was 3,450 million baht or one million US Dollars at current rates.
The mall has four main decoration themes, the Chaweng Port theme that combines contemporary architecture with an old time ferry port, a Birdcage theme with Chino-Portuguese style, a Fishermans Village theme and Old Market theme in Colonial style.

Our first impressions are good, the Tops supermarket is well stocked with plenty of goods that aren't available in any other shops, Central store offers also loads of things not available in other stores and the food court, although pricey, offers some interesting options, including an Indian shop which I tried.

We won't be there every day but it may come in handy to visit if you're looking for specific items.

Please do 'like' my Koh Samui blog Facebook page and enjoy the beaches around the island or in front of your hotel or resort and get some well deserved rest and a break. If you're done resting or need something else to do, there's plenty of things on offer on and around Koh Samui, you can go snorkeling or diving or take a dive course. You can also enjoy some of the trips I recommend, like a half day gourmet lunch and snorkeling trip at the Southern part of Koh Samui or a photography trip where you get to see the most photo genetic spots on the island or go for a drinks tasting tour if you like a tipple or two.
