Financial help for flood victims in Nakhon Si Thammarat

Financial help for flood victims in Nakhon Si Thammarat

Just like last month, when I was able to financially help flood victims in Chaweng, from a donation made by Peter in London, this time around we were able to help people in Nakhon Si Thammarat. Our friend Tawan lives there, who we visited in June 2007.

The best picture I have of Tawan's house, which is located in the background

Their house got flooded very badly and the whole ground floor had to be taken out and rebuild, plus many utensils were lost. We were able to help out with 5.000,-THB and Tawan's family was very happy for the help. The second third of Peter's donation is now gone. Thanks to Peter for helping out!

Around Samui there are various construction works under way to restore flood damage or to improve the overall situation. One of the things currently being done, is putting a new drainage system in place on the road leading from Tesco Lotus down to Chaweng where the one way system starts, as can be seen in the picture above.

Friday 20th May there will be a big underwater clean up on Chaweng Beach.

It's hard to believe that the island underwent such an out of season flood just over a month ago! Things are on the up again and right now is a great time to visit, not too busy and great weather!

Hope to see you soon.

Hi Camille
I have been following your posts everyday since the return of our holiday last year and really enjoy them, thanks for all your effort. We are hopefully back this June for 3 weeks again. We have some friends staying in Phuket at the same time and they want to come over land for a day trip to Samui. Do you know how long and how they do this? They thought it was only an hour or two but I have read more like 5-6hrs? I will be looking out for all your food posts over the next few weeks and refreshing up on the previous ones yum yum! Cheers Bronwyn NZ

Hi Bronwyn,

Pending on where they stay on Phuket, but let's assume between Patong and Kata somewhere, it will take about an hour to get off Phuket, than at least 3 to 4 hours to the pier in Donsak where the ferry for Samui leaves and the ferry is another hour and a half and than at least half an hour to get anywhere on Samui. Looks more like 7 hrs to me.

Hope you can make it in June!
