28th June, 2007

Today's weather;

Heavy overcast this morning with a current temp of 25C.

Yesterday around 1.30 pm we had a very strong storm with heavy winds and lots of rain. Apparently this storm raged all over Thailand in varying degrees and in Phuket people died, living on the beach in small 'slum' like buildings, according to Thai TV this morning.

Later in the evening there was more rain again but funnily enough the max temp was over 34C

Stay dry and see you tomorrow,
Camille

The weather's crazy all over the world at the moment: heatwaves in Europe, severe floods in the UK, the mercury hitting 37C here in Okinawa on Saturday. And people say there's no such thing as global warming!

Yeah Dave,

And remember, the people are always right. Ahum! NOT.

I did not hear or see anything about dead people in Phuket due to yesterdays weather - it was nice for most of the day. We had 30 minutes of rain late morning and some divers we had out reported rather bouncy conditions in the afternoon, but not enough to put them off diving next day too!

Can you find me a news source for the dead people?

My Phuket Weather blog entry today has a couple of photos taken yesterday morning in the sunshine.

Hi Jamie,

It was on Thai TV, a news channel, they showed footage of one of the ebaches with dead people being carried into an ambulance. According to the report 3 people died. There was also footage of the wrecked shanty 'houses'.
The English newspapers don't seem to run a story on this, I've looked and checked today and yesterday.
I'm not too sure what beach it was, but not one of the more popular ones.
