Koh Samui, Thailand daily weather update; 8th August, 2014

Today's weather;

It's still dark on Koh Samui this morning but a fairly sunny day is expected with scattered clouds. Current temp at 5am is 27C

It's going to be a busy day for me today, we're about to leave Sacheon-myeon in South Korea and dive further up North, towards the 38th Parallel, on Namae-ri beach. The summer seems to be back again this morning and yesterday afternoon with mostly blue skies and some scattered clouds. Current temp at 7am local time is 19C

Yesterday some a fairly cloudy day around Samui with some rain towards the end of the afternoon. Max temp reached 31C

Yesterday evening we strolled along the busy beach in Gangneung for the third time during our stay and had some great seafood dinner there. Gangneung is the bigger city near Sacheon-myeon in South Korea where we are staying and was Olympic city in 1988

The forecast predicts sunnier days and a lot less wind and rain for the next 7 days. Hope you will be able to enjoy it!

Koh Samui, Thailand daily weather update; 7th August, 2014

Today's weather;

Koh Samui is currently still fairly clouded and windy but blue skies are about to open up soon again. Current temp at 6.30am is 26C

Back here in Sacheon-myeon in South Korea, it's grey and wet, it's raining again this morning with a current temp of 24C at 8.30am local time.

Specialty Instructor training is in full swing here and yesterday I logged my 2000th dive.

Yesterday saw a mostly cloudy day around Koh Samui with a little bit of rain. Max temp reached 31C

The forecast is predicting nice weather again for the next seven days, today might still carry some strong wind, especially during the late afternoon and early evening but the remainder of this week, the weekend and all of next week should get back to sunny days.

Koh Samui, Thailand daily weather update; 6th August, 2014

Today's weather;

A later update than usual, I have been diving all morning in Sacheon-myon in South Korea for Specialty Instructor training, after yesterday's PADI IE was completed successfully. It's back to grey and cloudy and wet with rain again here and a current temp at 3pm local time of 27C

On Koh Samui it's also cloudy but dry and a current temp at 1pm of 31C

Yesterday saw a mostly cloudy but dry day around Samui with a max temp of 32.3C

The forecast for Samui is on the up, today is the last day of strong wind, maybe some strong wind tomorrow evening/night but after that it should be nice and possibly sunny again.

Food on Wheels; Songtan in South Korea and it's all nighter junk food stalls

Just in front of Osan Air Base, which is actually located in Songtan, South Korea, there's a pedestrian area and here you can find some interesting Korean food on wheels variations. Each afternoon, the cars are rolled out and readied for action. It fits perfectly into this series and cements once more that folks in this part of the world love it to eat on the street!

In this area are many bars and night clubs, which make for hungry night life creatures, especially during the weekends and that may explain the relatively high amount of food carts in the area.

One of the local specialties is noguda noodles, which look almost like stuffed penne's (Italian noodles) and they come in a red sauce, some nice and hearty stuff!

Fried everything

Everything else is more in the junk food variety, but late at night some extra grease may help to absorb the alcohol consumed a bit earlier.

Different snacks

It's a busy area and there are also loads of restaurants, massage shops, souvenir shops and tailors. The latter mainly marketing US based sports gear like baseball and ice hockey.

Now I'm out on the East coast, in Sacheon-myeon and I've seen some other interesting food on wheel variations, but didn't have a chance yet to get some pictures taken.

Today's weather;

It's mostly a cloudy sky over Koh Samui this morning with a few isolated blue patches. Current temp at 8am is 27C

After a couple of rainy and grey days, the summer seems to have returned in South Korea and Sacheon-myeon has a nice sunny sky. Fog in the ealry morning, a short sunbeam by 6am and now at 10am an almost blue sky. Current temp at 10am local time is 27C

The PADI IE is in full progress, the candidates are in the middle of their Open water dive right now on the beach here.

Yesterday saw a nice morning with sunshine around Samui, just to turn into a very hard shower for about an hour around 4pm, which caused a few short lived flash floods. Max temp reached 33.5C

The forecast shows strong wind today, tomorrow night and Thursday evening, after that it should slow down and a lot less rain is predicted now for the next seven days.

Today's weather;

This morning Koh Samui is waking up under a nice blue sky with just a few clouds in it. Looks like a nice day is in the making! Current temp at 6.30am is 28C

In the meantime, back on the coast in Sacheon-myeon in South Korea, it's foggy and as a consequent, very cloudy. Current temp at 8.30am is 25C

Yesterday saw a very nice and hot day with a max temp of 36C

The forecast predicts a lot less wind now, only Thursday and Friday look like some serious wind is going to happen but Tuesday and Wednesday look like some rain may come along.

Koh Samui, Thailand daily weather update; 3rd August, 2014

Today's weather;

Today a very early update since we're about to go for an early morning dive here in a very rainy and cloudy Sacheon-myeong in South Korea with a current temp of 25C at 8am local time.

Koh Samui looks fairly cloudy, the sun is just rising and possibly some sunshine later today. Current temp at 6am is 27C

It's been a while, but here's an update on the progress of Wat Plai Laem's new sermon hall. It's closing in on completion.

Yesterday saw a hot day around Samui with a max temp of a whooping 35C

The forecast is easing up, we should have had a very windy weekend and that dissipated and although there's still a fairly strong wind expected between Monday and Friday morning, it's not anywhere near how it was predicted a few days ago. The amount of expected rain has also decreased but do expect rain during next week, although hopefully just of the tropical shower variation.

Welcome to August, 2014

A new month is at the horizon and your average August on Koh Samui tends to be one of the better months during the year. There should be plenty of sunshine and great holiday days. There may be an occasional tropical shower but overall, a month to enjoy.

This month I won't spend much time at home, currently I'm in South Korea, teaching a PADI IDC here. In a good week I will be home again for just a few days and than it's off to Gili Air in Indonesia again for the remainder of the month.

Koh Samui, Thailand daily weather update; 2nd August, 2014

Today's weather;

The sky over Koh Samui is mostly cloudy with a few blue spots and a current temp at 4pm of 33.7C

The reason why the update is so late today; after an early start of the day, we left the house at 5am in Songtan and made our way over to the coast in Sacheon. We arrived around 10.30am (after various stops like picking up equipment and breakfast) and more or less immediately went for an Open Water training dive. It was luinch time after the dive and now I've finally got some time to update the blog in my hotel room. Current temp at 6.30pm local time is 28C under a mostly cloudy sky, although before noon the sun broke through a few times.

We had a beautiful trip through the mountains and are just 15 minutes away from the 38th parallel, by car. Tomorrow another open water training dive will be conducted as part of the current 2nd ever full Western PADI IDC in South Korea.

Yesterday saw a dry and warm day around Koh Samui with a max temp of 34C

The forecast is looking slightly better, the predicted strong wind is still coming, especially Tuesday through Friday but a lot less strong now but the rain seems to be still on the forecast.

Today's weather;

It's slightly cloudy over Koh Samui this morning but it looks like it's going to be another sunny and hot day. Current temp at 7am is 26.5C

In Tongsan in South Korea it's a blue sky and sunny and soon I'm off to Seoul for a day of shopping and sightseeing on my day off. Expect some Gangnam style action! Current temp at 9am local time is 27C and the temperature is rising.
