6th July, 2008

Today's weather;

It's almost a perfect morning with a beautiful blue sky and a current temp of 25C at 7am.

Yesterday was a strange one, 15 minutes after I wrote that it may turn into a nice day, it was very dark with strong winds and very hard rain! However, the rain didn't last too long and noon it was nice and sunny again. Max temp reached 32C yesterday.

Hainanese style houses on Samui

Hainanese style houses on Samui

In my blog post last week about the Chinese Temple in Hua Thanon, I mentioned
a Hainanese legacy on Samui. Over the weekend, when we visited the waterfall in Baan Namuang, I went back to Hua Thanon to take some pictures of typical Hainan style houses.

Here are three perfect samples of such Hainan style houses in Hua Thanon, as you can see, they're made of wood and typically have two floors. This one seems to be housing a motorbike repair shop.

Here's an other prime sample of a stand alone Hainan style house in Hua Thanon.

This is also a typical sight in Hua Thanon, a few Hainan style houses next to each other, build in to a variety of shops or restaurants.

Here's a sample from a Hainan style house in Nathon, converted in to a restaurant.

Another excellent place to find houses build in this style are in Nathon and Bophud, although in Bophud, a lot of the original houses have been renovated but it has been done in a nice authentic way giving it a modern flair.

BTW It's 10 am and it has drizzled and rained pretty much from 8 am onwards and there's a rather dark, cloud filled sky.

2nd July, 2008

Today's weather;

There's some heavy overcast and thunder is rumbling in the back ground, just like last night around midnight. Current temp at 7 am is 26.7C.

Yesterday was an all day long hot day, with overcast in the morning but that was replaced by mostly blue skies during the rest of the day with a max temp of 33.3C.

New update on Chaweng's Pagoda

New update on Chaweng's Pagoda

It's time for new update on Chaweng's Pagoda, after the last update is already a month and a half ago.

I can safely say that progress is under way and things are shaping up nicely.

Here's a frontal view of the Pagoda, the upper part, where the actual Pagoda is located, is getting close to being finished.

These stairs to each side of the building, leading up to the actual Pagoda, are finally completed and I had a first peek at the upper part.

The Pagoda on top of the building. From the outside it looks almost completed, inside are a few bits and pieces that need looking after. The Pagoda has 4 entrance doors and I'm curious about what's going to be inside.

On each side of the 'roof' is one of these mini pagoda's located. Note the excellent view over Chaweng from up on the roof.

Whenever you're in Chaweng, don't forget to visit this Pagoda, the views are spectacular!

Welcome to July 2008

Welcome to July 2008

We just had a reasonable June and I hope that this coming July will improve compared to last June and July last year.

July can have the occasional rain shower, but it should be short and sweet, cool everything down for an hour and so and then sunshine again. Let's keep our fingers crossed.
