Goodbye to October 2019

Goodbye to October 2019

It's the last day of this month and time to say Goodbye to October 2019! We do this with a cloudy but dry sky at 7.30am. Come 8.45am it started to rain though.

This month of October has been a a fairly good month. Yes, we had rain almost every week. Some weeks more, other weeks less. On the other hand, we also had our share of sunshine. So, all in all, not a bad October at all. The rainy season hasn't started yet although a few times it alerted us that's it not far way anymore.

We had a good time with the family, the children had most of this month off from school. This allowed us to make some short trips on the mainland. We visited Surat Thani, Hua Hin, Samut Songkhram and Ratchaburi province. Last weekend we had a repeat visit to Surat Thani and had a look at the city of Chaiya. Here we found an lovely restaurant named Baan Pakwaan. Check it out for a great lunch.

A new resort under construction between Choengmon and Chaweng. Although the occupancy rate of the Samui hotels has been very low this year, new resorts are still being build.

Hope you had a good time and enjoyed Koh Samui during your visit. Keep checking in here and don't hesitate to contact me, for questions, inquiries or to book some tours.

Now it's on to the next month, November! This month usually brings lots of rain. More on that in tomorrow's blog about welcoming November 2019!

Please do 'like' my Koh Samui blog Facebook page and enjoy the beaches around the island or in front of your hotel or resort and get some well deserved rest and a break.

If you're done resting or need something else to do, there's plenty of things on offer on and around Koh Samui, you can go snorkeling or diving or take a dive course.

Join me in a private dive trip with yours sincerely!

You can also enjoy some of the trips I recommend, like a half day gourmet lunch and snorkeling trip at the Southern part of Koh Samui or a photography trip where you get to see the most photo genetic spots on the island or go for a drinks tasting tour if you like a tipple or two.

You may also opt for a very special dinner experience at The Thai Experience. Behind closed doors, reservation only and a very enjoyable and well worthwhile way of spending an evening on Samui. Authentic Thai food and a great atmosphere. Can highly recommend this experience.

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 21st October – 27th October 2019

Ir's early Sunday morning and time for the Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 21st October – 27th October 2019. My family and myself are in Surat Thani for the weekend. The long slow Distance run is in the bag. Off to new adventures later today on the mainland. Tomorrow school begins again.

On Koh Samui there's a partially clouded sky this morning. Current temperature at 8am is 32C. Look forward to a nice and warm day with sunshine. A surprise tropical shower may be in the cars in some parts of the island.

Until 29th October the floating temple boats or Rua Phra will be on display until at least tonight. If you haven't been yet, make sure to visit. It's well worth a visit.

Last week saw an improvement to the rainy week before that. The beginning of the week still saw some hard rain. At the end of the week we had a few strong showers, but nothing too serious. We also had plenty of sunshine and warm to hot days! Maximum temperatures reached 33C towards the end of the week and the minimum didn't drop below 24C at night.

Sunday monring life ina  small Soi in Surat Thani town. Off the main road opposite the government hospital in the middle of town.

The forecast for next week is looking good. We're heading into November on a high! Next week forecasts predict mostly sunny to partially cloudy skies. An occasional tropical shower may hit you, but that shouldn't last much longer than an hour or so.
A nice way to end October. Next month is most likely the wettest month in the year. Samui's rainy season is about to hit sometime next month.
For next week though, enjoy your stay on the island and have a look around. There's plenty to discover.

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 14th October – 20th October 2019

It's Sunday afternoon and time for the Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 14th October – 20th October 2019.
The long slow distance run is in the bag and the weather is interesting! It's sunny at the moment at around 2.30pm with a current temperature of 27C. Not too hot, actually very nice.

Last week we went on a short holiday trip with the family, via Surat Thani and Hua Hin all the way up the to the Maeklong railway market in Samut Songkhram and the floating market at Damnoen Saduak in Ratchaburi province. Just 70km south of Bangkok! Via Chumpon we came back to Koh Samui.

The Rua Chakra or floating boats were scheduled last week all around Thailand. This picture is taken in Plai Laem and is the floating boat from the local temple.

Last week saw lots of rain on Koh Samui. Heavy rain with thunder, drizzle and light rain. A nice prelude to the rainy season. Maximum temperatures reached 32C and the minimum temperature dropped once to 22C.

During last week's trip we visitied a freind in Hua Hin. We took the opportunity to visit the Rajabhakti park. It's a historically themed park honouring past Thai kings from the Sukhothai period to the current royal house of Chakri. Seven Thai Kings in total.

The forecast for next week looks a lot better. Tomorrow, Monday, night still be fairly wet! Be warned. However, from Tuesday onward it should clear up and partially to sunny skies may prevail. The rain should be gone for the time being.
Enjoy next week on the island. It's fairly quiet, you can feel as if the island is all yours alone!

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 7th October – 13th October 2019

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 7th October – 13th October 2019

Here awe are again, Sunday morning and time for the Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 7th October – 13th October 2019.
The Sunday run is in the bag and the sun is out!

It was cloudy to partially clouded earlier this morning. However, the sun is taking over control. It's getting more blue by the minute almost. Current temperature at 11am is 30C and rising. It feels a lot hotter outside, once you're in the sun.

Last week saw plenty of nice sunny to partially clouded days. However, towards the end of the week we saw some showers. Starting Thursday afternoon. Yesterday it was dry and sunny at Plai Laem all day long. However, our oldest daughter had to go to the Navy camp in Lipa Noi. The King's daughter was visiting and releasing turtles. Once she got back she mentioned that it rained there.
Maximum temperatures last week ranged from 35C in the beginning of the week to 23C a few times during the night time.

New signage at Central Festival in Chaweng. A great and popular photo opportunity.

The forecast for next week is not looking that great. We're getting to the half way mark of this month and that can lead us to some foretastes of the rainy season. The current typhoon, Hagidis, that is or was battering Japan, is rubbing off on Thailand now. That includes Samui. Tomorrow we get a very short but harsh storm spot between 10am and 1pm. Lots of rain during that period as well. Let's see how accurate this prediction will be.
The rest of the week will see some hard rain as well. Not on all days, mostly towards the end of the week. Possibly including next weekend.

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 29th September – 6th October 2019

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 29th September – 6th October 2019

Sunday morning, time for the Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 29th September – 6th October 2019.

Long run is in  the bag. I'm glad to be back in training again. Goal is the half marathon come 15th December in Surat Thani. Today was an easy hour and a half run. In the last 600 meters I run off my feet by a dog! The dog was running next to a motorbike, following his owner. He didn't see me and despite evading moves by myself, he hit me full on and swept my legs away. Lucky for me it was on the side of the road and I landed face first in the sand. Very lucky for me that I did not have a single scratch.

On to the weather though, it is partially cloudy this morning. The current temperature at 9.45am is 29C. It looks like a nice day in the making, not too hot but most likely dry.

Last week saw some great weather. All week long sunny skies and lots of sunshine. It was warm but not 'stupid' warm or rather hot as for instance in April. The overall temperatures are dropping and makes for agreeable days. As long as it stays dry. Dry it was this week. Wherever I was on the island last week, I didn't spot a single drop of rain.
Maximum temperatures reached 34C in the beginning of the week. The minimum temperature barely hit 23C. A nice start of the month indeed.

Khow Tanim or the Magic Garden in Baan Namuang. My last visit was almost two months ago. Check it out, it is an interesting place to visit. This is one of the many statue clusters that can be found there.

The forecast for next week is looking great. The weather of this week continues to hold on. Hardly any wind, few clouds and plenty of sunshine. The overall temperature shouldn't be too hot though. October continues to keep up good appearances.
Enjoy your time on our island or in the Samui archipelago next week!

Welcome to October 2019

Welcome to October 2019

It's the first of October and we say welcome to October 2019.

The month of October on Koh Samui is usually still a fairly nice month, if we talk weather. However, it is also the month before our rainy season starts. It's really a transitional month weather wise.

The last two years October was ok. Early on during the month still plenty of sunshine. Later during the month, more and more rain starts to show up. Or rather, falls down. Three years ago it seemed the rainy season had already started by the end of the month.

This month I do expect rain, it's just hard to say when. Towards the end of the month is the safest bet though.
The first week of this new month, the forecast looks good. Let's see how far we can carry this.

Welcome to October 2019

Wat Plai Laem is around the corner of our house. It's also a beautiful temple, one of the most beautiful on the island, just in my humble opinion. Many buildings and statues. Lovely statues as well! One of these statues is a massive, big, sitting man. You may want to call it a Buddha maybe. This statue is surrounded by four smaller statues, depicting Indian style deities. This is one of these four statues. Ganesh! This deity  is widely revered as the remover of obstacles, the patron of arts and sciences and the deva of intellect and wisdom.

There are not that many events on the island that I am aware of this month. So come and enjoy a much more quiet and tranquil Koh Samui and it's archipelago. Go out and about and maybe one of the activities on offer here suits you.

Please do 'like' my Koh Samui blog Facebook page and enjoy the beaches around the island or in front of your hotel or resort and get some well deserved rest and a break.
