Above is the corner where the one way beach road in Chaweng starts, on the left. The road on the right leads to the ring road. Te building in the middle of the picture has various small shops under it's roof, mainly selling copied goods and other assorted souvenirs.

March 2006

The picture above has the same crossing, from a slightly different angle and it looks very different indeed. One big difference is that there was still no one way system in place. Nowadays unthinkable!

Koh Samui, Thailand daily weather update; 7th December, 2014

Today's weather;

Koh Samui has a nice and blue sky with some clouds in it this morning. Current temp at 7am is 27C

Here in Moalboal in the Philippines, we have a fairly strong wind and little nit of rain. Typhoon Hagupit, locally known as Ruby, made landfall quite a bit North of us last night, so we're safe here.

We may have hurricane conditions but all looks fairly good so far. Current temp at 8am local time is 25C

Yesterday saw a cloudy morning with possibly some rain around parts of Samui and a sunny afternoon with a max temp of 32C

The forecast predicts fair weather with sunshine, some clouds, maybe a shower until the weekend! The weekend might have strong wind and lots of rain.

Koh Samui, Thailand daily weather update; 6th December, 2014

Today's weather;

It looks like a nice mixed bag today around Koh Samui, some nice blue skies but plenty of clouds hanging around. Current temp at 7am is 26.2C

Back here in Moalboal in the Philippines, it's grey and cloudy. Typhoon Hagupit is about to make landfall in the Philippines, just a bit North of us but far away to leave us unscathed, hopefully! Current temp at 8am local is 27C

Yesterday saw a nice day around Samui without rain in our part of the island but possibly some rain in other parts. Max temp reached 32C

The forecast predicts similar days as we had over the lst two ays, sunny moments mixed with cloudy moments and possibly some rain but towards next weekend it may change in strong wind and lots of rain.

Today's weather;

There are a few more clouds today around Koh Samui but there are still plenty of blue spots. Current temp at 7am is 27.3C

In Moalboal in the Philippines the PADI IDC started yesterday and the weather had a bit of a change, from blue skies we went to grey skies and we already had a bit of rain this morning. A prelude to the super typhoon Hagupit or locally known as Ruby that is on it's way to the Philippines? Current temp at 8am local time is 27C

The forecast predicts a bit of rain for today and tomorrow although there may be blue sky moments as well. The remiander of the next 7 days should be similar but possibly with less rain.

His Majesty the King of Thailand Bhumibol Adulyadej, also known as Rama IX, as he is the ninth monarch of the Chakri Dynasty has his 87th birthday today.

Today's weather;

There's a nice blue sky over Koh Samui this morning with some clouds hovering over the ocean. Current temp at 7am is 25.5C

Finally arrived in Moalboal in the Philippines yesterday and had a good nights sleep, just to wake up under a blue sky here as well with clouds at the other side, over the next island of Negros. Yesterday there was a bit of a drizzle here during the late afternoon.  Current temp at 8am local time is 28C

Oh yes, before I forget, a typhoon is supposed to hit here over the weekend!

Koh Samui, Thailand daily weather update; 2nd December, 2014

Today's weather;

It's nice and sunny over Koh Samui, although there are also a few clouds hanging around. Current temp at 8am is 28C 

It was a long day yesterday, left the house around 8.30am and didn't get into Cebu City in the Philippines until midnight, all my three flights were delayed! Due to getting in bed rather late, a slightly delayed update.

It's also sunny here with a few clouds and there was some rain last night. Current temp at 9am local time is 28.4C

Yesterday saw a dry and fairly sunny day around Samui with a max temp of 31.2C

Always takes a bit of getting used that the Philippines is a Catholic country and there are churches all over the place

Today's weather;

It's cloudy around Koh Samui this morning with a current temp at 7am of 25.8C

After saying 'Goodbye to November 2014' and 'Welcoming December 2014', I will have to say goodbye to Samui for three weeks. I'm off to Moalboal in the Philippines for a PADI IDC and should be back on Samui come 21st December in the late afternoon.

Welcome to December 2014

It's the start of the a month full of festivities. We all know about Christmas but in Thailand we also celebrate the birthday of HM King Bhumibol come 5th December.

The weather in December can be very wet during the first half of the month but typically the second half of the month should be better and drier.

The last three years we had fairly mild Decembers, let's hope this year isn't going to be different.

In contrast to last year, most of this month I will be away, to be exactly in Moalboal in the Philippines for a PADI IDC. Next Sunday, 7th December, I am planning to participate in a half marathon in Cebu City, which would make it three half marathons this year in three different countries.
