Goodbye to July 2019

Goodbye to July 2019

Another month gone and time to say Goodbye to July 2019. Here on this last day of July 2019, we have a cloudy sky and a current temperature of 30C.
The majority of the month was a lot better though, if we stick to the weather. First of all there was plenty of sunshine with many blue skies Secondly, we saw some partially clouded skies as well. Last but not least, we had a little bit of rain as well. Not anywhere near what a 'normal' or average July bring sin around the Samui archipelago though.
It was a great July weather wise. Way above average.
Almost paradoxical, Samui and the surrounding islands need the rain. Drought is a potential problem and usually July fills the ground water reservoirs up a bit. So let it rain!

Goodbye to July 2019

For me it was goo to be home during this month. Spent time with the family and helped out around the house. We have construction going on, so all help is needed and welcome in our household at the time being.

Am looking forward to August right now. It looks like the islands will get some well needed rain during next month's first week. Let's hope we can find the right balance between sunshine and rain next month.

See you back in August!

Please do 'like' my Koh Samui blog Facebook page and enjoy the beaches around the island or in front of your hotel or resort and get some well deserved rest and a break.

If you're done resting or need something else to do, there's plenty of things on offer on and around Koh Samui, you can go snorkeling or diving or take a dive course.

You can also enjoy some of the trips I recommend, like a half day gourmet lunch and snorkeling trip at the Southern part of Koh Samui or a photography trip where you get to see the most photo genetic spots on the island or go for a drinks tasting tour if you like a tipple or two.

You may also opt for a very special dinner experience at The Thai Experience. Behind closed doors, reservation only and a very enjoyable and well worthwhile way of spending an evening on Samui. Authentic Thai food and a great atmosphere. Can highly recommend this experience.

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 22nd July – 28th July 2019

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 22nd July – 28th July 2019

Good morning on this Sunday during which we check the Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 22nd July – 28th July 2019!
It's Sunday morning, which also means my long run is done. Today 'only' 21.4km. My preparation for the Lan Saka marathon come 8th September is going fine. Fully according to schedule so far! Am crossing my fingers it stays like that!

This morning it's partially cloudy. The sun may break through in full force later today. Current temperature at 9am is 29C.

Last week still saw nice weather, most of the week. At last there were a few showers. They are badly needed. The rain that is! On the other hand, there was also still enough sunshine and mostly the afternoons were very warm. Maximum temperature last week stopped at 35C. The minimum temperature reached 21C.
July is almost coming to an end and it has been a very nice, warm and dry month so far!

Fresh seafood at the Plai Laem market. This market is well worth a visit, not too big nor too small. Lots of fresh produce to be seen and had. Each day around 5pm it's absolute chaos, due to the parking situation.

The forecast fr next week is interesting. July should end like most of this month, fairly warm and possibly, maybe a tropical shower. Come August 1st, the wind should pick up. This should come together with rain. A predication we had a couple of times during July, but the rain hardly materialized. We'll see what will happen during next week.

Either way, enjoy your stay on the island!

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 15th July – 21st July 2019

Welcome to a late Sunday morning and as always, time for the Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 15th July – 21st July 2019.It's almost 11am and the sun has broken out since the early morning. During my long run, 32.2km today,
it was cloudy until the sun started to rise. The clouds disappeared and the sun started to heat things up. Current temperature right now is 32C

Last week still saw mostly good weather. Sure, there were a couple of showers, but nothing too serious. And by far not as much as the island needs to top up the ground water levels. It has been a much better than average July up to this week.
Maximum temperature last week reached 34C. The minimum got stuck at 22C, during the night.
Most afternoons were very cloudy and some of them had showers with an occasional thunderstorm. This varied around the island.

View over Bang Rak bay from Big Buddha. This is the view if you walk the stairs all the way up at Big Buddha. At the actual Big Buddha statue. Lovely view, refreshing breeze most of the time and a close up look at Big Buddha!

Next week is looking very good! Lots of sunshine, all the wind has gone and a shower may be your lucky number! Enjoy your stay, it looks like an awesome weather week is ahead of us.
Do go out and about, explore and enjoy but be safe on the roads!

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 8th July – 14th July 2019

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 8th July – 14th July 2019

Here we are, another Sunday morning and time for the Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 8th July – 14th July 2019. It's nice and sunny this morning with a current temperature at 10.30am of 31C.
Sunday morning also means my long slow distance run is done. 30.6km this morning. This week I'm half way in my marathon training plan. Only 8 more weeks until race day!

Last week saw very nice weather. In Plai Laem we had one shower. Strong and hard and that was it. The rest of the island may have had some more showers. However, still nothing how July usually is.
Maximum temperatures last week reached 35C. The minimum got stuck at 22C last week.
Very fair weather for this time of the year!

Road construction in Plai Laem. This is very near to our house. Once it is completed it will all look very nice. Paved side walks, new lighting. New road surface. It will take a while though. Two house owners are not complying with the construction over their land. It will slow down proceedings. This in turn will mean longer periods of dust around our living area.

First of all, next week the wind is supposed to pick. Secondly,  come mid week, the rain is supposed to arrive. Quite a lot actually. Next weekend we may see some very strong wind. This may come with more rain as well.
Nothing to get too worried about yet. This is much more like July usually is.
Hope you are or will be enjoying your stay on the island. Go out and about as long as the weather holds!

Welcome to July 2019

Welcome to July 2019

It's already en days overdue but it is time to say welcome to July 2019. It is not your typical July so far though. Way too much sunshine and not enough rain and hard wind. It's sunny outside right now at 2pm with a current temperature of 34C.
Typical for July is plenty of overcast and showers with hard wind here and there. Change until the middle of the month is not likely. More sunny skies are in the making.

Welcome to July 2019

Welcome to July 2019

Ongoing road construction at the traffic lights near Fisherman's Village. It's been a mess. For months. However, slowly things are progressing and three lanes of concrete have been laid down. There's still plenty to take care of. Foot paths, lights, you name it.It's been dusty, Still is. Can't wait for all the road construction at this part of the island is over and the dust settles. It lasted long enough. The result looks promising though. We just need to hang in for just a few more months.

Best thing to do is to lay back and enjoy the weather as long as it lasts in this shape for the remainder of the month. It is still fairly quiet around the island, another reason to enjoy. Next month should be a lot more busy.
Don't forget to go out and about when you're on the island!

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 1st July – 7th July 2019

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 1st July – 7th July 2019

Sunday morning and time for a new episode of Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 24th June – 30th June 2019.
The long slow distance Sunday morning run is in the bag. 28km this morning. All the way from the Fisherman Village traffic lights to the hill at 4 Seasons. Up and down the hill and back to the traffic lights.
Earlier this morning it was fairly clouded but the sun seems to break through and it's heating up. Partially clouded it is at almost 11am. Current temperature is 32C and it feels a lot warmer.

Last week saw once more plenty of sunshine and warm days. Personally I only experienced one shower last week. There may have been more, but I missed them.
Maximum temperature reached 34C. Although most of last week's minimum temperatures ranged between 23C and 25C, one day it dropped all the way down to 21C.

A very nice start to July!

Wat Plai Laem from a different angle. The picture is taken yesterday under a fairly clouded morning sky.

What does the forecast have to say? Plenty of sunshine and partially clouded skies. Occasionally a tropical shower. All in all, much better than an average July week.
Enjoy your time on the island. It's low season and it's fairly quiet and relaxed. Good weather conditions. What else do you want!
