Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 21st January 2019 – 27th January 2019

Early evening, on the ferry back to Koh Samui and better late not than not all, here is the Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 21st January 2019 – 27th January 2019.

It's been a long and busy day today. A very early wake up call at 3am, since I was participating in a half marathon in Trang city. At 11am we left Trang and via Patthalung and Thalenoi we made our way back to the pier in Don Sak.

Koh Samui had a nice and dry day with a partially clouded sky. Maximum temperature reached 30C.

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 21st January 2019 – 27th January 2019; A small road side shrine. You can find them all over Koh Samui. This is one is in front of a tree on the road to Big Buddha. Many trees in Thailand are considered 'holy' and they will have garlands wrapped around them, a shrine in front of them and offerings to accompany the shrine. The offerings are usually small and simple, some red Fanta seems to be very popular, a small piece of food and some incense.

Last week saw a fairly nice week with some rain towards the end of the week. Maximum temperatures reached 31C and minimum temps reached 26C. A fairly even week with a slighlty wet ending, although the weekend was dry again.

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 21st January 2019 – 27th January 2019. The clock tower in Trang at 4am. The picture is not that great but it looked really nice with green lights covering the tower. This morning I ran a half marathon in Trang. Hence we spend the weekend there.

For next week it's looking very sunny and hot for tomorrow. More partial cloud coverage for the rest of the week with some showers here and there. Time to start looking forward to February, one of the nicest months of the year to be on Koh Samui!

Please do 'like' my Koh Samui blog Facebook page and enjoy the beaches around the island or in front of your hotel or resort and get some well deserved rest and a break.

If you're done resting or need something else to do, there's plenty of things on offer on and around Koh Samui, you can go snorkeling or diving or take a dive course.

You can also enjoy some of the trips I recommend, like a half day gourmet lunch and snorkeling trip at the Southern part of Koh Samui or a photography trip where you get to see the most photo genetic spots on the island or go for a drinks tasting tour if you like a tipple or two.

You may also opt for a very special dinner experience at The Thai Experience. Behind closed doors, reservation only and a very enjoyable and well worthwhile way of spending an evening on Samui. Authentic Thai food and a great atmosphere. Can highly recommend this experience.

The forecast for next week is looking really good. Partially cloudy to sunny with almost no rain forecasted.

Early Sunday morning and time for the Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 07th January 2019 – 13th January 2019.
It's cloudy over Koh Samui this morning with a current temperature of 26C, nice and cool.

On Koh Lanta, where I am about to complete the first PADI IDC of this year, it's partially cloudy and on;y 23C. It will get warmer once the sun comes out though.

Last week was a nice week with some rain yesterday. Most of the week saw sunshine though. A far cry from the previous week when tropical storm Pabu was mulling around the island.
Maximum temperatures reached 32C and the minimum got stuck at 27C. All around a nice week to be on Koh Samui if you came looking for nice weather.

The week ahead of us looks very promising. Partially cloudy skies most of the time, which means plenty of sunshine as well. Be prepared to possibly have a short shower though on some days.
Enjoy your stay on Koh Samui!

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 31st December 2018 – 06th January 2019

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 31st December 2018 – 06th January 2019

Welcome to the first Sunday of 2019 and the Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 31st December 2018 – 06th January 2019.
This morning it's partially cloudy around Koh Samui with the sun being out again. Current temperature at 7am is 28C, expect it to get warm today with a high humidity, so very sweaty!

The next two weeks I will find myself on Koh Lanta, teaching my first PADI IDC program of the year. It's nice and sunny here as well, with a very blue sky. Current temperature here at 7am is a cool 23C but I expect it to get very warm here.
Pabuk did not really impact Koh Lanta at all. A bit stronger wind than usual with marginal amounts of out of the ordinary rain. On Koh Lanta it was really a storm in a glass of water.

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 31st December 2018 – 06th January 2019

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 31st December 2018 – 06th January 2019; Tropical storm Pabuk visits Hua Thanon. The Southern and South Eastern part of Koh Samui seems to have been hit hardest by Pabuk.

The big news last week was of course tropical storm Pabuk. Initially it seemed that Pabuk was heading straight for Koh Samui. But it turned out the storm veered off over the mainland before it coudl reach Koh Samui. Still, Samui got battered, especially the South-Eastern part of the island, but anywhere near as bad as anticipated or expected.
Plai Laem, where we live was actually relatively calm and besides stronger wind than usual, it was almost a non event.
Ferries and flights to and from Samui were cancelled on 4th January but all scheduled ferries and flights have resumed their normal schedule by now.

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 31st December 2018 – 06th January 2019; Yesterday's flash floods around the island,. This is in Chaweng, in front of Blue Lagoon. Most flash floods should be gone by today.

Strangely enough the worst day was yesterday, Saturday. It seemed that the tail end of Pabuk didn't find a way to leave the Gulf of Thailand and big clouds with much more rain and stronger wind than during Pabuk hammered Koh Samui yesterday until somewhere in the afternoon. Loads of flash floods at the usual and less usual spots were all around the island.
That has passed now as well and everything seems to be back to normal on Samui.

The mainland was hit much harder though but luckily without big loss of life. I have only seen reports of one person being killed by and during Pabuk.

It seems that Koh Samui and the surround islands got away fairly unscathed. The island were shaken but not stirred!

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 31st December 2018 – 06th January 2019

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 31st December 2018 – 06th January 2019; Electric repairs in Ban Saladan on Koh Lanta. Big power lines from the mainland were cut by a big, passing catamaran. It took three days to fix it again. The day I arrived, 3rd January, power was off in my hotel until 8pm.

The forecast for next week shows mostly partially cloudy days with some light showers occasionally. The wind is slowing down, day by day and towards next weekend we should be able to enjoy sunny skies again.
Enjoy the good or better weather conditions around the island this week!

Welcome to January 2019

Welcome to January 2019

The first day of a new year and a food moment to say Welcome to January 2019. Under a mostly blue sky with a few clouds. Current temperature at 10.30am is 31C
It looks like a nice day is about to develop to kick off the start of this new year.

January is a bit of a mixed bag. There are always some days with lots of rain and possibly flash floods. Two years ago it was a real challenge!
This year we have most likely a massive storm moving literally over Koh Samui. Thursday it starts with strong wind and lots of rain. This is to intensify towards Friday midday, when Koh Samui should get the full on strength of the storm. Very strong wind and loads of rain are predicted for the whole day, culminating around 7am to 2pm.
Better lower the hatches for this one.

After the storm has passed, it should clear up fairly quickly though and by Sunday the sun should be out and about again.

Let's hope for the rest of the month to be sunny and nice, without getting too hot. The latter a nice benefit of January!

Welcome to January 2019

Welcome to January 2019; Blessed be the new year! My sister in law's new year morning blessings for her car, motorbike and house.

During the first part of this month I will be on Koh Lanta, to teach a PADI IDC. On Sunday 27th January I'm planning to run a new personal best for a half marathon in Trang. Not knowing the course, how hilly it possibly may be, I don't know yet how likely that is going to be.

Enjoy your stay on Koh Samui during this January!
