Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 21st May – 27th May 2018

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 21st May – 27th May 2018

It's Sunday morning and time for the Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 21st May – 27th May 2018.
It's nice and hot over Koh Samui with plenty of blue skies and some clouds. It's midday and already 32C and it feels a lot warmer. The temperature is still rising, get that sun lotion out and protect your selves.

This morning I ran the Hat Yai half marathon as part of the 12th Hat Yai marathon, a big event and a well organized race. I came 9th in my age category  of 55-59 out of 52 participants and 60th all over out of 1088 participants. My fastest half marathon to date.
Right now I'm on the public bus back to Koh Samui, we left an hour ago and are expected to be on Samui around 7pm. Still a few hours to go!
It was cloudy in the morning during the race, which made for cool temperatures, ideal for racing with 27.5C.
Now at midday it's 31C and partially cloudy with the sun peeking out,

Last week it was nice and warm around Koh Samui but we also had some showers, thunder storms and a few very hard showers. All in all not too bad though and maximum temperatures ranged from 29C to 34C.
A good week in my opinion.

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 21st May – 27th May 2018; The dim sum restaurant in Hat Yai where I had breakfast this morning. It's located near the bus station in Hat Yai. Tasty and seemingly very popular since it was very busy. Many restaurants were closed though, due to Ramadan.

The forecast for next week looks like we will have cloudy to partially cloudy days with most likely some rain on Wednesday and a few tropical showers throughout he week.
Still plenty of sunshine to enjoy though.
Fairly typical weather for this time of the year. Enjoy your time on Koh Samui!

Please do 'like' my Koh Samui blog Facebook page and enjoy the beaches around the island or in front of your hotel or resort and get some well deserved rest and a break. If you're done resting or need something else to do, there's plenty of things on offer on and around Koh Samui, you can go snorkeling or diving or take a dive course. You can also enjoy some of the trips I recommend, like a half day gourmet lunch and snorkeling trip at the Southern part of Koh Samui or a photography trip where you get to see the most photo genetic spots on the island or go for a drinks tasting tour if you like a tipple or two.

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 14th May – 20th May 2018

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 14th May – 20th May 2018

Another Sunday morning with a nice long run run already taken care of and it's time for the Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 14th May – 20th May 2018.

It's partially cloudy around Koh Samui with a current temperature around 9.30am of 31C It feels already lots warmer.
Many people were and still are down in Maenam for the yearly Samui cross country event.

Here on Phuket it's cloudy this morning with a current temperature at 9.30am of around 29C and it feels nice and cool.

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 14th May – 20th May 2018

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 14th May – 20th May 2018; A very nice trip down memory lane occurred during the recent Samui bike week. Before the Samui bike week started, a bridge was build between the event area, near the Reggae pub and the other side of the lake. Just as it was some twenty years ago. The original bridge had already gone by the time I arrived on Samui, during late 1999. Nice to see one being build again. For a lot of long time resident and visitors to Samui, this must have been a nice memory.

Last week was a good week around Koh Samui with plenty of sunshine and partially cloudy skies. Two days saw some rain, some isolated tropical showers and a thunderstorm on Monday and Friday. Maximum temperatures were high, between 33C and34C and the humidity was high, which made for 'sticky' warm temperatures.

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 14th May – 20th May 2018; Big Buddha on Phuket as seen from the dive boat upon returning to Chalong harbor after a days diving.

The forecast for next week is looking good and is very similar to last weeks weather. Plenty of sunshine, partially cloudy skies and maybe an occasional tropical shower.
May is always a nice month to be on koh Samui and if you are here, I hope you enjoy your stay on our lovely island.

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 7th May – 13th May 2018

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 7th May – 13th May 2018

It's Sunday and time for the Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 7th May – 13th May 2018. My Sunday run was a late afternoon run, since I'm teaching a PADI IDC on Phuket, hence my track of time is all messed up.
It's late afternoon or early evening, it's already dark and Koh Samui had a nice and warm day again. Currently at 8pm it's 27C, it's cooled down a little bit during the afternoon after the daytime heat.

On Phuket we started out with a cloudy morning to end up with a very warm afternoon which was accompanied with a blue sky. Now at 8pm it's still 32C.

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 7th May – 13th May 2018; A boat sitting on the beach on a beach at Plai Laem, not too far away from big Buddha.

It was steaming hot last week last week around Koh Samui. Partially cloudy to blue skies at times but the temperatures soared. maximum temperatures ranged last week between 33 and 34C but it felt a lot warmer most of the time.
There was an occasional shower or thunderstorm but it wasn't too bad at all. It was mostly just hot.

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 7th May – 13th May 2018; Graffiti in Phuket town. There are a few nice mural paintings around Phuket town to discover. This is one of them.

The forecast for next week looks very similar as last week. Mainly partially cloudy to sunny skies at times with an occasional thunderstorm, accompanied with some rain. Expect another warm week.
Enjoy next week on Koh Samui if you're around and crank that sun lotion out but make sure it's sun lotion that doesn't damage the coral!

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 30th April – 6th May 2018

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 30th April – 6th May 2018

Sunday morning with a nice partially clouded sky over Koh Samui in the early morning. It should stay nice and sunny all day long with possibly a thunderstorm and shower in the early evening. Current temperature at 9am is 30C. Get the sun lotion out but make sure it's not damaging the coral reefs around Koh Samui!

I'm in Krabi for the weekend and just completed the first of this years series of marathons and half marathons sponsored by Bangkok Airways. Don't forget the Samui half marathon come 10th June!
In Krabi it was a half marathon and I ran my second best time on a half ever in a 5'03 pace. It was 400 meters of the official distance, 20.7km in 1:44'37.2 but during the race I was not too bothered about that! It's a little bit cooler here compared to Samui with 28C at 9am and a blue sky. Yesterday at 5pm, when we arrived, it was pouring down with a black sky over Krabi!
In an hour or so we'll be on our way back to Samui again.

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 30th April – 6th May 2018; View towards Big Buddha from Plai Laem, with a boat in the 'docks' being fixed up and getting a paint job done. All this under a nice blue sky, hot and steamy!

Last week things cooled down a bit after a couple of cloudy and rainy days. I enjoyed it, after the April heat but we had a few mini flash floods at the usual suspect spots. Nothing to get too excited about, it was all gone within minutes after the thunderstorms. The weekend showed some better weather again with sunny skies.
Maximum temperatures ranged between 31C and 33C

The forecast for nest week predict a sunny Monday and Tuesday, so a nice start to the week. From Wednesday onward it may be cloudier with some thunderstorms thrown in at times for the remainder of the week.

Welcome to May 2018

Welcome to May 2018

It's Mayday in 75% of the world (not in my home country the Netherlands) and a good moment to say Welcome to May 2018. The month that can be nice, with plenty of sunshine but that also can bring some tropical showers and sometimes more than that. Although the latter is rather rare.
The start of this May month is gorgeous with blue skies all around the island , a nice welcome after a rough April ending.
The forecast for this week of May is looking good, with plenty of more blue skies to come and an occasional tropical shower.

Welcome to May 2018

Welcome to May 2018; Downtown Chaweng, near the nightlife areas of the Ark Bar and the Soi Green Mango. This picture is however taken around 10am, when this area is like a ghost town.

Plenty of events coming up this month, among others the 10th Samui Bike week during the first weekend of May and a cross country bike and running event on 20th May in Maenam.
This month I will be heading to Krabi for a half marathon race during the first weekend of tis month and shortly after that I will travel to Phuket for around two weeks to conduct a PADI IDC.

Enjoy this May month on Koh Samui, with hopefully plenty of sun and without the heat of April.
