Goodbye to September 2017

Goodbye to September 2017

The last day of this month and it calls for a 'Goodbye to September 2017'.

It's 08.40am and it's cloudy and cool with a 26C current temperature with possibly a shower to be expected today. This would make it ten days with showers this month, after last night's rain. Maybe a little bit more than average during a September but not too far off. I enjoyed this month with the morning temperatures dropping although during the afternoons it was 'sticky' hot. Due to the high humidity.
There was plenty of sunshine as well during this month, so the sun lovers could enjoy the Samui beaches.
A good September I would say, close to an average September.

Goodbye to September 2017

Goodbye to September 2017; A box jelly protection net is placed at Ozo Hotel on Chaweng beach. There's one more box jelly protection net, in Lamai at Lamai Wanta Beach Resort.

It was a busy month on the running front for me, with 3 weekends with races including one long charity run, from North to South Samui. Six runners ran 32km starting at Aryaburi Resort in the North and ended at the Laem Sor Pagoda in the South after about three hours and 15 minutes. Exactly as was planned before hand. We managed to raise around 55,000.-THB plus numerous other, material gifts for the underprivileged children on the island.

Time to look forward to next month, October 2017, which will be a month to remember, with King's Bhumibol's funeral and cremation ceremony come 26th October. The whole month will be affected however by this event and many planned, big events may be cancelled throughout the month, so keep your eyes fixed on social media. The Full Moon Party scheduled for 5th October has already been cancelled.

Please do 'like' my Koh Samui blog Facebook page and enjoy the beaches around the island or in front of your hotel or resort and get some well deserved rest and a break. If you're done resting or need something else to do, there's plenty of things on offer on and around Koh Samui, you can go snorkeling or diving or take a dive course. You can also enjoy some of the trips I recommend, like a half day gourmet lunch and snorkeling trip at the Southern part of Koh Samui or a photography trip where you get to see the most photo genetic spots on the island or go for a drinks tasting tour if you like a tipple or two.

After yesterday's 32km charity run I was happy to participate in a shorter run. Advertised as a 5km race, we ended up running 4.17km and I managed this in 18'30 and ended up as 9th all over and 3rd in my age category 40+

The forecast for next week a strong wind blowing in until tomorrow and fading out by Wednesday, accompanied by some tropical showers. Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 11th September – 17th September, 2017

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 11th September – 17th September, 2017

It's late Sunday afternoon, and time for the Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 11th September – 17th September, 2017. Late in the day but not forgotten!

Today started out fairly cloudy but during the afternoon the sun started to break out a bit and came peeping through the clouds. The temperatures immediately went up a couple of notches. Current temperature at 4pm is 32C

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 11th September – 17th September, 2017; Bang Rak beach road during landing at Samui airport, shortly before 6pm, with the sun setting beautifully over the Gulf of Thailand

Last week saw only two days with some rain and the rest of the week ranged from partially cloudy to fairly sunny. It didn't get too hot, with max temperatures ranging between 30C and 34C. By no means did we have the torrential rain and flooding that happened on Phuket late last week!

From Monday to Thursday I was in Pattaya, visiting some friends. It had been a while since I was there. Pattaya is interesting and has it's pro and cons but for a few days I can enjoy it.

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 11th September – 17th September, 2017; Pattaya beach road before noon time. Fairly quiet for traffic but the beach was rather busy.

Next week looks from mid-week to the end of the week might see some rain. Come Thursday and Friday we may see some strong wind and a bit of rain on Wednesday with some more but minor showers towards the weekend.

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 4th September – 10th September, 2017

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 4th September – 10th September, 2017

Sunday noon time, it's also time for the Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 4th September – 10th September, 2017.
The sun is slowly breaking through over Koh Samui after a fairly cloudy morning. The bike riders of the Samui Festival tour or race around around the island will not have complained, their ride must have been a lot more agreeable without the sun.
The current temperature at noon is 30.8C but it feels like closing in to 40C. Hot and humid but there is a light trace of wind.

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 4th September – 10th September, 2017

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 4th September – 10th September, 2017; Chaweng beach yesterday during the official attempt of  having the worlds longest buffet. The attempt was successful and 2.5km of free food could be enjoyed yesterday. There were some nice surprises and good food to be had but it was also very busy. Within 30 minutes most af the food was gone!

Last week it was mostly partially cloudy with plenty of sunshine to be had and a very rare tropical shower to cool things off. Max temperatures ranged from 33c to 35C.

The forecast for next week around Koh Samui, which most of the week I will be spending in Pattaya, will be partially cloudy, maybe a bit more of short, tropical showers and the ind might be picking up from Thursday onward.

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 28th August – 3rd September, 2017

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 28th August – 3rd September, 2017

It's Sunday morning and time to have a look at Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 28th August – 3rd September, 2017 and see how things were.
We have a sunny sky already during all morning, this Sunday and although the quicksilver tells us it's 'only' 30.4C at 10.40am, it feels a lot warmer, closing in on 38C!
Better be prepared for a hot and sticky day unless you can find a breeze or stay in an aircon controlled room or area.

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 28th August – 3rd September, 2017

Koh Samui, Thailand weekly weather update; 28th August – 3rd September, 2017; Food options at the Plai Laem market, some frogs and eels. Not for the faint hearted gourmets!
On most maps this market is listed as Bang Rak market, but Plai Laem starts after the bridge and that's exactly where the market is located!

Last week saw a bit of a mixed bag with mostly partially clouded skies, an occasional tropical shower and temperatures ranging between 30C and 34C.

Next week looks like it will be dry, possibly a rare tropical shower and mostly partially clouded skies. Warm and sunny might be an option as well! Enjoy your time on our island, it's not as busy anymore as a week ago and possibly a little bit more enjoyable with more space around you.

Welcome to September 2017

Welcome to September 2017

It's the first day of a new month and time to say Welcome to September 2017.
A lot of times the nice and mild August weather carries over into September, but not the last three years! Let's hope this will change this year.

This morning it's partially cloudy and at 8.30am it's a nice and cool 28.3C. Don't worry though, it will heat up later today or rather soon-ish. It already feels a lot warmer.
The forecast for the next ten days is partially cloudy with the possibility of a tropical shower.

Welcome to September 2017

Welcome to September 2017; Curry pastes and other delicacies at the Walking street event in Lamai

Plenty of running events coming up this month around Samui. From my perspective as a runner, a nice development to see!
Come 2nd September the Cancer Care run in Nathon at the Seatran pier will kick off at 7am. On 9th September the Samui Festival marathon at the Wharf (I will only run the 10km distance) will be around and this promises to be a big one, with over 900 runners signed up for the 10km distance in the various age categories. The 23rd will see the North - South charity run which is followed by the Mad Hatter run come 24th September, with another 10km run also at the Wharf. See you there?
