More updates about floods and drought in Thailand, March 2011

The Bangkok Post has a very good graphic displayed below that shows the affected areas that have severe flood and severe drought. All in one country. For good measure, some earth quack affected provinces are thrown in as well.



Ever considered this; A crocodile is captured by zoo workers yesterday at Suan Somdej Phra Sri Nakharin Park, where Nakhon Si Thammarat municipality’s zoo is located. It was one of 11 crocodiles that escaped the flooded zoo. Zoo staff shot dead one crocodile and caught three others. Seven remain at large. Two bears also escaped. NUCHAREE RAKRUN

    Thank you for keeping us informed about what is going on at this time. I am
    very worried about a friend who is working in Koh Tao. Where can I get more
    news about the present situation on that island ? I understand that the
    boats are not operating due to the bad weather and many people are stranded
    there. Could you please assist or point me in the right direction for more
    detailed info ?

    I will be greatful for your help.

    Hi Lucinda,

    Koh Tao is indeed hit very bad, food and drinking water are running low.

    Hope this helps and sorry for not having any better news, everybody should be fine though on Koh Tao.

    Dear Camille

    Thank you for replying to my email. I really appreciate it. It looks worse than I imagined and I am quite concerned about people I know there. Their English is not so great so I don't get very clear or regular information about what's going on with the weather. All I've heard is that it's been impossible for them to leave the island. My friend has booked a flight to leave for Thailand on 9 April and he intended to make his way to Koh Tao immediately after arriving in Bangkok . We really would just like to find out if this is a good idea under the circumstances. Any damage to roads heading South, etc. Please let me know where I could search for such news in English, if you have any idea.

    Hi Lucinda,

    Koh Tao has been hit pretty hard, a lot of structural damage has been done to the roads so maybe better to wait and see how fast they recover before going there.
