Hi Camille.
Thankyou for your posts. It has made me feel more relaxed about coming to Thailand in the rain season.
I have one quick question. Does the sea around Chaweng Beach get rough at the moment or is it still ok for swimming. Is it still possible to dive at this time of year aswell?

Many thanks, Jonny.

Hi Jonny,

Thanks for your message and for checking in to my blog.

It's good to know I could be of help, that was one of the reasons for having started this blog in the first place.

Right now Chaweng beach is very calm and nice, this may change once the wind direction changes. Right now Samui is still enjoying a Western wind but soon the wind will change and come from the East. That's when Chaweng can have waves and sometimes actually can be slightly dangerous with rip currents and surges .

Diving is done all year round, weather permitting, as a matter of fact, I'm going out to Sail Rock tomorrow, looking for a whale shark! I may post about my trip on my dive blog .

Hope this helps.

Hi Camille.
Thanks for your blog once again. I am now in Koh Samui and it is looking pretty grim. We are thinking of getting an 8am flight to Phuket tomorrow. Is the forecast for over that way any better than the one for here? My girlfriend has been to Koh Lanta before so we thought of getting a ferry there if there is more chance of some sun! I hear that the weather patterns on that side of Thailand are a bit different because of the different sea.

Thanks again for your good work, Jonny.

Hi Jonathan,

Thanks for getting back to me again. Right now it looks like all of Thailand is going to go through a very bad weather patch with massive wind gusts and high waves on 1st and 2nd November. The Phuket/Koh Lanta seems to recover faster with nice weather than the Samui archipelago. I use Windguru as a reference and here is the forecast for Phuket on Windguru
Right now I wouldn’t be surprised if all small boat traffic will be cancelled on these two days and even planes might have a hard time getting in to airports in the South.

Hope this helps
