Hi Camille, great site you have here, we look and read every day. We are coming to koh samui for first time next week 3rd may. We are worried about no sun as all the weather sites have clouds and thunderstorms. Are these weather reports accurate? Many thanks if you can help us Mark and DonnaX

Hi Mark and Donna,

If you check the Windguru site, my favorite site, http://www.windguru.cz/int/index.php?sc=30397, it will tell you that there will be strong to very strong winds but hardly any rain. You should get plenty of sunshine, just follow my daily updates or check the April/May archives.

Hi Mark and Donna,

Unfortunately I can't guarantee that it's gonna be good, but I most certainly hope it will be!

Enjoy Lamai and Samui, my blog ahs plenty of tips of what to do and where to go.

Don't miss out on real Samui food at Sabeinglae restuarant, just past Hin Ta Hin Yai.

Hi there.

I hope you don't mind me emailing you but just wanted to find someone on samui to get a genuine idea of weather conditions before i head back out for another holiday.

I regularly check the online weather for samui before heading out there but lately it just seems to be a bit random, when i was over there in march i got the typical hot clear lovely weather that samui is known for but a friend of mine headed out in april and had almost constant rain... I've noticed most online sites are currently displaying thunderstorms and grey skies, and lately on your weather blog you've been saying blue skies and sunshine.

Do you think maybe the weather trends in samui are changing with the whole global warming thing and bringing more rain earlier in the season or are the recent storms just an unusual weather front for the time of year?

I'm coming back to Samui for a couple of weeks from last week of may to around 10th june so wondered if you would mind mailing me back to give me a better idea of what the weather is really going to be like around that time rather than me going off the online weather reports.

Thanks for your time, much appreciated.

Richard.

Hi Richard,

Although there has been some unusual strong wind during April, it was very hot, except for the first couple of days this month which showed some rain. Last year we had rain during Songkran, the Thai New year, which is really unusual.

Not too sure of this has something to do with global warning, possibly…….

The forecasts right now however, for the coming week are good! Late May/early June usually has good weather, please feel free to check my archives and check them out.

Hi Camille

Where would you get best exchange rate in Lamai and what is the average cost of a bottled beer say heineken or chang for instance.

regards

mark

Hi Mark,

Best exchange is done at banks, there are plenty in Samui and the average price of beer depends on where you buy it; at a 7-11 or in a bar (60 to 100 Baht).
