Hi Camille,
My wife and I are finally making our way to Thailand. We arrive in Bangkok on the 15th of Feb and have 6 nights there before coming to Koh Samui for 7 nights. We are both excited.

One thing we weren't aware of is and only found out from hearing it on the radio this morning is that there are box jelly fish in Thailand and people have died after being stung on Koh Samui. How frequent is this? Is it a danger at certain locations and times of the year or is it all the time?

Regards,
Craig

Hi Craig,

Thanks for your message and enquiry!

Yes, there are box jelly fish out here in Thailand and the whole region for that matter, but the amounts are rather small and with a bit of caution, you will have an enjoyable vacation.

On my dive blog I posted a bit about these hazardous marine life animals and a link can be found here;

This should hopefully give you some insight about this phenomena in Thailand. In general it’s not something you should really worry about, and to the best of my opinion, there are no deadly encounters known from Samui, although a few years back two tourists were not so lucky around Koh Phangan waters.

Hi Camille,
I was looking at visiting Samui this year, which month do you think the least amount of rainfall is?

I was in Samui in June 2007, and i found the weather was not as hot and dry as 2006 (July). Do you think July is the best time to visit?

Also i love you blogs... i have been to Samui and Koh Tao 3 Times, and I love snorkelling in Koh tao.... last year we stayed there a few nights....absolutely amazing!
Reading your blogs makes me feel like I’m there again, and keeps me excited about going back!

I will have a few friends coming along this year, so i want to try to go at a time where it will be sunny and beautiful (although i know at times it can be very unpredictable). Asking a local what the weather will be like for the day is always the same... “Maybe little bit sun... maybe little bit rain”...

Looking forward to your reply,
Cheers!
Tina

Hi Tina,

Thanks for your message and enquiry.

July is usually a good time to visit but in my opinion August is even better. Have a look at my archives for 2007 and 2008.

It’s nice to see that you enjoy reading my blogs, hope you keep visiting!

Thanks for your speedy reply!
I thought about August, but then I heard that the rain season begins in Sep. So i was a little worried.... Also peak season gets so busy!!!
But in your opinion... best month Aug... Second best July?

Thanks!
Tina.

Hi Tina,

August should be really good! Usually September is also very nice! The rainy season doesn’t start until October. Peak season does get busy indeed.

July can be good, although you can have an occasional tropical rain shower, when it rain s very hard for half an hour or so and two hours later everything is dry again. Please check my archives, they have plenty of information about these months, check the ‘goodbye to ….’ Posts in the archives, they sum up the weather for that particular month.
